Preview Side vs Cats

Ottens the only ruckman? Hawkins to ruck? That's gotta be a positive.
It's usually a positive for Geelong. (if Hawkins is fit)

Trent West and Blake have been terrible for them all year, their best 2nd ruck all year has been a fit Hawkins.

The positive for us is Hawkins didn't look fit at all last week, he seemed to be favouring that injured foot rather heavily.

This week is the best chance we have had to beat the Cats since 08, we have as good as a perfect injury list (except for Dick) and they have several under injury clouds, while we really only have the one concern of the 22 selected.

I'm very confident of a win.:thumbsu:

Out and In reversed? Can't remember the teams from memory Round 9 but your Outs are In the team and the Ins are missing...

Thats the round 9 side, the outs and ins are the changes from that game to this one, not the ones for that week.

Good changes, to be expected.

No Pods, interesting.

I smell a late change.

I suspect it would be Pods for Corey given he was struggling even before the game started last week, but really it could be anyone.

Out: N.Brown, Wood, O'Bree
In: Prestigiacomo, L. Brown, Goldsack

Wood was woeful in that match. Fumbly, slow, terrible forward line presence. O'Bree was just average - picked up an opportunist goal but didn't do much else. Nate Brown was promising but still not damaging.

Now we have "THE MISSILE" Goldsack, The Anvil patrolling the ruck and the 50m arc and Presti doing what he does best.

Heater on the wing sounds like a really interesting move. But in theory he could also move on-ball and shadow Kelly, Corey and/or Bartel in bursts. I wonder if Mick is going to get creative on Saturday night?

Sweet thanks for that...kinda feeling out of the loop here in NZ...shoulda stayed in Aussie!!!

I think our players have more belief this time around thanks to the big win over the saints...doesn't matter either way to be honest as long as we stay within 4 goals

Surley Medhurst has done something wrong and the club doesnt want to come out public with it or he has signed with the GC17 or even asked to go home becuase he is playing very well in the VFL and is miles ahead of Macaffer.

I think were probably looking at our best side as rated by MM at the moment against theres

I think one more change was needed

Medders in, lockyer out

Unless medders is on the outer at the club i dont think he should be out of the team considering his form

Great side and good to see pods still out...gives us a 2 vs 2 big man match up down back

Im getting excited now

dude! did you watch last week? lockyer didn't play!!!!!
re read this weeks team:eek: how can he come out if he isn't in?

I'm starting to think that.

A little worried to be honest..... Are their small forwards gonna rip us to shreds???

Rotating through the cats forward line we have:

Stokes
Johnson
Byrnes
Ablett
Chapman
Varcoe

Our only genuine small defenders are

Harry
Shaw
Toovey
Johnson

Does anyone else think that going in with;

Reid, Maxwell, Presti and Goldsack is too top heavy considering PODS is a no show?? Can goldsack play small?? If so, what match-up does he get?

Johnson and Chapman don't play particularly small. They wouldn't trouble Goldy and Maxy too much for speed (not saying that is who should match up on them).

etc etc

They have to worry about us, as much as we have to worry about them.

....and Prestigiacomo's opponent will be?

Hawkins is too mobile for him, Mooney plays up the ground. Presti can't cover either one.

If there is a late change it may be Presti who is omitted.

I understand that we have heaps rotating through too.. The difference is that they have enough small defenders to compensate.

Mackie
Enright
Milburn
Hunt
Wojinski

and their on ball brigade....

Just think with no PODS we have 1 too many tall defenders unless Goldsack or Maxwell is able to hold down one of them.

Presti will take whoever is in the goal square and I think he will smash Hawkins.

Presti can go with the Fevola's (quick) and Riewoldt's (VERY mobile). I'm pretty sure Hawkins wouldn't pose too many problems for him.

Your totally right...what a screw up on my part

my apologies, what a lovely team we have out there on Saturday night

I'm agreeing with you cfx 1.

The way teams have beaten cats this year = with pace.

The way we belted them by 86 or whatever, back in 08 = pace.

Pace, particularly in applying tackling pressure, is the key ( if there is one!)

Others can cover hawkins...rest presti, play another runner!!

Barham  Tackle and handball only. Pay the fine.

Hawkins....too mobile

...does not compute.

He'll take whatever tall they play out of the square, whether that be Ottens, Mooney or Hawkins. It's irrelevant who it is really, because if you've managed to catch any of Presti's work over the last 10 years I'm sure you'd know he'll have no problems with any of those three.

I reckon that is the best side we can put out there at the moment. All the talk about Medhurst being better than Macaffer is irrelevant in my mind. Macaffer is playing as the defensive forward not the half forward role Medhurst would play. I think where Medders has been forced out is by us playing Davis forward so that we can play all of Wellingham, Beams and Sidebottom. I guess we did not really play a specialist defensive forward last year so it is a role Macaffer plays better than Medders, not that Macaffer is a better footballer than Medhurst.

Not sure we are top heavy down back either. Goldsack generally plays more small than tall. Think he has played on Stokes in the past. Reid will take Mooney, Presti will take Hawkins and Ottens who will rotate forward. I think Harry will take Stevie J and Maxwell will probably take Chapman when he plays forward. That leaves a combination of Goldsack, Toovey, Johnson and Heater to play on Stokes and Varcoe.

Goldsack has been good the last couple of weeks but this is a very good test as to whether he can play on quality smalls which Stokes and Varcoe have become. It might determine whether he is best 22 or a fringe player going forward.
