News Simonds Stadium stage 3 redevelopment - Players Stand, big screen and new lights

As construction progresses it becomes obvious that despite being asthetically similar to the premiership stand, the 'players stand's' structure looks to be completely different. Be interesting to see the final result when they're both trying to replicate the premiership stand perfectly, but at the same time, having a differing structure. Interesting what the outcome would have been like had the financial concerns not arised.

Also to note that there were some spray painted parts of concourse saying 'light.'

I reckon I've worked out what will be between the new stand and the race of the opposition. There's the concrete section where the seats will be put back [between the race and the orange net fence you can see],then there's a gap.I reckon that gap is another enterance for vehicles to come on the ground. Most likely an ambulance might be there on game days as it's right by Moorabool St and easy access for it to get out quickly.

I doubt it Jubby. There is already access for vehicles such as an ambulance under the Premiership stand near the side of the new construction. That access has been used for ambulance and other vehicles since Fred Flintstone was a boy.

A lot of grounds have 2 access areas. Also have you seen the poor Ambos trying to get out after a game ?
If there is a new access area they'd be out just after the game and not stuck in traffic trying to get out.

I forgot that I had a BigFooty account. Click HERE for my construction updates on SkyScraperCity.

Good stuff Sam. Still not clear on that Moorabool St side. Why have they not got the based done?

There are still two bays to be erected on the Moorabool St (south east) side of the stand. The foundations have been poured but to allow access for the crane to lift precast panels in from the front of the stand, they have been covered over. Check through the first few sets of pics and you can see them.

The stand will only be one bay short of what what was originally proposed. Also cut out to save money is the concourse on level one from behind the goals to Moorabool St. You can also see this from the pics.

Cheers.

Thanks for that. The concourse is what area? Level1 lower? Are they planning to install seats in this level 1 lower area to be similar to the Premiership stand?

The concourse at the rear of the stand, follows on from the Premiership Stand.

Even though the Players Stand construction methods are different to that of the Premiership Stand I'm told it will aesthetically look the same. So yes, they planning to install seats in this level 1 lower area to be similar to the Premiership Stand.

The terrace which the "Peter Street Stand" was errected on will still be there at the completion of construction of the Players Stand. I have been told they will simply use the existing seats that were there but as for the "Peter Street Stand" to be re-erected I cannot see this happening as it was a part of the demolition contract and was sold off as scrap.

In my mind it would be a backwards step erecting another temporary stand.

Thanks Sam. At the rear , would that really be a huge issue. Id say the huge beer tent etc would go back up.

Do you know if these finance forced changes are permanently gone or could they do them later on? I know then next plan is for the City end.

No issue as they have added normal access stairways to level 1 from ground level for the last few bays where the concourse has been taken away.

The way the stand has been constucted I'd say yes, they could add another bay or two at a later date.

All will be revealed (Stage 4) before the end of the year I am told.

Gartland told me one night when I was down at the club that they could not build right around to the Moorabool St. or Eastern side Stand (whatever the name of it is. I have had a seat in it since it was built but I refer to it as the Eastern Stand) as they had run out of cash. I asked him if it was next on the agenda and he said no, the city end is the next project. But they will come back to it in the future.

Thanks Rabbi. Sound about right. The shame is it will effect the way it looks on the TV. Still the picks in these phots give the impression its going to look awesome if we actually get the City end don in the same style. The hard part would be the Brownlow is not that old , so it would probably stop there or the Social club

Thanks for the update!!
Man its gonna be one awesome stadium once they finish that stand and then the Ablett terrace!!

Going to have a real cauldron effect with nearly 40k cats fans there!!

Wait, I've got to ask a silly question. I heard a rumour that there was going to be a giant gap inbetween it and the Hickey stand? Based on these photos is this indeed the case, or have they simply not started on that little section yet?

Its been discussed earlier in the thread CA84 , Sam had quite a few good answers about it
