Qualifying Final vs Ophidian Old Boys @ Spotswood Oval
Match report by jackster83

Finals qootball had finally arrived, and the Rats travelled to Spotswood to take on the rampaging Old Boys. Despite receiving a warm welcome from the hosts, the Rats knew this would be a tough assignment, with the likes of thewizardmelon and DemurePrincess in particular showing no mercy in the build up to the match.

Despite a big meal of pizza the night before, the Rats started slowly, with the home side scoring the first three goals of the game. An intercept to Ticky009 led to the Rats scoring their first goal of the game through okeydoke7. This did little to halt the momentum of the Old Boys though, as they piled on the next three majors to extend their lead. At quarter time the Old Boys led 6.1 (37) to the Swamprats 1.3 (9).

A quarter time spray from the captain did little to improve the fortunes of the visitors. The margin blew out to 42 points before a long bomb to BloodySwan and two goals to Okey pegged the deficit back to an even five goals. Former Rat Harvey Weinsten quickly responded for the home side before the skipper hit back with a long range goal of his own. A late major to the Old Boys saw them still well in control at the main break, leading 11.4 (70) to 5.5 (35).

Any hopes of a Rats comeback in the third term were quickly quelled as the Old Boys went up a gear, adding six consecutive goals to leave the Rats shellshocked. The skipper tried to lift his team resulting in a goal to ant555, but the home side quickly hit back. Three late goals, including one on the siren to Okey brought some respectability back to the scoreboard, but the game was over at the last change. The scores were Old Boys 17.4 (106) leading Swamprats 9.6 (60).

By now the game was over and both sides went into self-preservation mode in the final term, with the Old Boys extending their lead and running out 56 point winners. The final scores were Old Boys 20.4 (124) def Swamprats 10.8 (68).

All-SFA

In the greatest robbery seen since the first season of Australian Qidol, no Swamprats were selected in this season's All-SFA team.

Yeah but most of the frauds who were selected didn't get to play in a grand final :).

Round 16 vs Coney Island Warriors @ Underground Stadium
Match Report by jackster83

Having gone a month without a win, things weren’t quite getting desperate for the Swamprats, but a win was needed to keep the younger heads in check and the masses happy. After a long stint away, the Rats were finally back at home taking on the Wazzas. The Warriors resorted to naming their team one post at a time despite no one being interested to see the side they’d named, whilst Qurovision was proving a nice distraction for some.

okeydoke7 got things underway for the home side, scoring within the first minute. The Warriors responded with three successive goals before edgie hit back with a solo effort. The visitors kept coming however and got the margin out to 26 points before Okey scored just before the quarter time siren. The scores were Swamprats 4.2 (26) trailed the Warriors 7.4 (46).

The two sides traded goals to start the second term, before edgie got the home fans cheering with a brilliant solo effort. The Warriors wrestled back momentum and got the margin out to 16 points before another brilliant piece of pressure from Okeydoke kept the Rats in touch. At half time the Swamprats were trailing the Warriors 9.6 (60) to 11.4 (70).

The game tightened up in the third term as goals become hard to come by. Eventually it was Ant Bear who broke the deadlock in the 11th minute to reduce the margin to just five points. The Rats took the lead when sataris kicked truly but it was short lived. At three quarter time, the Rats were trailing by the smallest of margins at 11.6 (72) to 12.5 (77)

Okey had several chances to put the Rats in front early in the final term, before he finally succeeded with his third attempt. The Warriors reclaimed the lead before Okey missed another chance to take the lead back again. Scoring started to open up again and Ticky009 had the home fans cheering when she reduced the deficit to just three points. The game need a hero and the Rats thought they had one when another desperate defensive action from Okey saw sataris give them the lead. Unfortunately Tonga Bob had other ideas and stormed forward to kick the match winning goal and seal a ripping game of qooty. Final scores were Swamprats 15.9 (99) lost to Warriors 16.6 (102).

Semi Final vs Dragons FFC @ Underground Stadium
Match report by jackster83

Returning home to a hostile media and a fan base demanding answers, the threat of a second successive straight sets exit hovered over the heads of the Rats. Signs calling for Qen Hinkley’s sacking were being erected all over Alberton. Captain jackster83 was under pressure, while for their part the Dragons were more interested in calling for their own captain’s sacking than the upcoming game.

A disastrous start for the home side saw the Dragons kick the first four goals of the game. The fans let out a loud boo when they showed the coach’s face on the big screen. Ant Bear settled things with the first two goals for the Rats, before BloodySwan joined in the fun. The Rats had several chances to take the lead but they wasted their opportunities and went in to the first change trailing 3.5 (24) to 4.0 (24).

The Dragons kicked the first two goals of the second term (by now they had six goals without a miss!) before damicky set up the skipper for a running goal. The Dragons responded with a goal of their own before Rats’ spearhead okeydoke7 booted two quick goals to close the margin to just one point. Again the Dragons responded and they could have extended their margin further if not for desperate defending by Power Raid. The Rats closed the margin via Ant Bear before fan favourite HirdsTheWord put the home side into the lead for the first time. At half time the Rats were leading 8.6 (54) to 8.3 (51).

The Rats got off to a perfect start in the second half with Okey adding another before Jewelsbon sent the home fans into a frenzy with a spectacular crumbing goal. The Rats were threatening to run away with the game but were inaccurate in front of goal. Another goal to Jewelsbon courtesy of some bruising physicality and then a major to Firestarter saw the margin push out to 32 points. Two more late goals to the Rats and the Dragons were starting to fight amongst themselves. At three quarter time the Rats were leading 14.11 (95) to 8.5 (53).

Three quick goals to the Dragons to start the final term and suddenly the raucous crowd had gone silent. This wouldn’t be another heartbreak would it? Fortunately, Okey had other ideas. His goal sparked the crowd back to life, before another major to the skipper broke the Dragons’ charge in their tracks. A couple of consolation goals to the Dragons followed but the Rats then went in for the kill and finished the job. The final scores were Swamprats 18.16 (124) def Dragons 13.9 (87).

I expect a huge improvement in my votes next season. I'm setting the bar low.
Mate maybe the move in the off season can result in a Mobbs Medal? Not that I'm trying to put any pressure on you or anything......

Preliminary Final vs Roys FFC @ Brunswick Junction Oval
Match report by jackster83

Having avoided a straight sets exit, the Rats were not only relieved but also now excited at being just the one game away from another grand final appearance. okeydoke7 got so hyped up he tried to wrestle the captaincy away from yours truly. Standing in the way though was a hardened Roys team lead by Joe Biden Mobbs and supported by 3KZ is Football and Phar Ace. Meanwhile club legend sataris was playing his 200th game.

The Roys came bursting out of the blocks, adding two goals in no time and dominating in the midfield. Some strong team defence by spookism resulted in a turnover and a goal to Okey. Jewelsbon added another to the total before the Roys responded with two goals of their own. The Rats were starting to put up a better contest in the middle but were unable to stop the Roys scoring. At the first break, the Roys were leading 6.3 (39) to the Rats 4.3 (27).

A strong centre clearance to start the second term resulted in a goal to BloodySwan. The Rats were starting to get on top in the territory battle but missed several chances to take the lead. It fell to Okey to do what he does best (no, not telling everyone about his CV) as he snapped the goal to put the Rats in front. Several lead changes followed for the remainder of the quarter with the Roys holding a tiny three point margin at the main break. royboy2 was proving to be a particularly big thorn in the Rats side with three goals in as many minutes. Half time scores were Roys 9.3 (57) to 8.6 (54).

The Rats quickly took the lead to start the third term, as Spookism marked an errant Roys kick across goals. A wayward kick inside 50 by tigs2010 resulted in the Rats running the ball from one end to another, resulting in a goal to damicky. When Spook and My Cotchin Rules added to the scoreboard, the margin was out to 21 points and starting to look threatening for the Roys. Despite a late goal to the home side, the Rats started to pull away with Okey kicking his fourth and ant555 providing yet another finals highlight with a GOTY contender. A the final change, the Rats were leading 14.8 (92) to 10.5 (65).

The Rats had a number of changes to bury the game to start the final term, but were unable to convert. It took until the 10th minute for Okey to seize the moment and kick his fifth. When BloodySwan and Ant Bear each goaled from long bombs, the game was as good as over and the Swamprats were into another grand final. The final scores were Swamprats 17.13 (115) def Roys 12.8 (80).

Mobbs Medals are for suckers. I'm aiming to set the new record for most All-SFA defender selections.

Beez Medal Recap

The only other Swamprat to place in the top 50 was yours truly in 39th place.

Good thing we recruited serial_thrilla.
