Grand Final vs Ophidian Old Boys @ SFA Park
Match report by Ant Bear
GRAND. ****ING. FINAL. The Premiership that had seemed impossible after the QF defeat to the OOBs, was now within our grasp. Standing in the way were the amiable Old Boys, who had the seasonal pogo stick experience of cup/spoon/cup. In wet conditions, we started like startled rabbits, and via GremioPower, Ant Bear and GotTheGoodes had 3 goals on the board before the Ophidians had parked their motorised wheelchairs, but eventual Deestroy Medallist myblueroan got the Old Boys on the board, and the game settled into a cut and thrust rhythm. At the first break, the Swampies trailed by a goal. The second term saw the Swamprats explode, and the move of okeydoke7 out of full-forward paid dividends as his replacement Ant Bear grabbed a brace. With 5 goals to 1 for the term, we looked like blowing the game open with a 17 point halftime advantage. However, we squandered our lead, only managing 2 goals for the third while conceding 4, and the game hung precariously in the balance at the last break with the Rats clinging to a 5 point lead. This was wiped out within seconds of the siren to start the final term, and it was a crushing blow as the OOBs rammed home 6 goals to our three, and slammed our premiership window shut in our faces. Losers by the margin of 17 points. There’s always next season…
BloodySwan performed brilliantly on the big stage, with 24 disposals and was runner-up in the Deestroy. jackster83 battled valiantly in the ruck, amassing 15 hitouts and 16 touches, and GotTheGoodes was the only other Rat to collect 20+ touches. Ant Bear booted 4 goals and GremioPower 3, in what was a high-scoring game in the wet.
The thread was a thing of beauty – fast-moving, entertaining, prolific and diverse. It was a privilege to encounter OOB players such as DemurePrincess, thewizardmelon and Robertio at their best, and a pleasure to have Tigerturbulance's attention all week as well. We more than held our own, though, as GotTheGoodes made a club-record 488 posts, and the likes of damicky, Ant Bear, philreich, okeydoke7, BloodySwan , ant555 and Grand final specialist sataris all racked up high posting numbers, as we topped 1700 posts, with future Rat Raz adding another 400-odd. Fifteen of the 20 Rats to take the field participated, as the buzz of Grand Final week permeated throughout the club like one of @dingster’s farts. It was an amazing performance from both teams, and a fitting finale to the terrific posting season we had.
The final scores were Old Boys 17.9 (111) def Swamprats 15.5 (95).

Captaincy
Due to other commitments taking over more and more of my time and energy, I have decided to relinquish the captaincy for season 38.
You will be in safe hands though, with the leadership team taking over. philreich and damicky will be co-captains for season 38. damicky will no doubt be responsible for the team sheet submissions.
I will remain at Sin City too as the #flagrats push resumes for season 38.
