Petch’s hamstring injuries:
2019: 2 weeks
2020: 9 weeks
2021: 2 week, 2 weeks, 1 week
2022: 4 weeks out, 2 weeks out, now 2-3 weeks

That’s eight separate incidents in four seasons resulting in 24-25 games missed.

I think, and this is merely by observation and i may be incorrect, is that guys like Petch and Shuey are at least in part experiencing these recurrent hamstring injuries due to their running position

If you watch them run, they tend to run very hunched (its more pronounced in Shuey). That results in too much pressure going into the forefoot, and then by extension, into the calf and the hamstring

Cyril Rioli had the exact same problem with the exact same hamstring/calf issues. Hawthorns solution was to check him biomechanically via film analysis, and then, completely alter his running style and foot position

Once that was done, he had barely any trouble since

The playing surface at Optus undoubtedly wouldn't be helping in this regard either

Meanwhile our team be like "Meh, send him back out there, what's the worst that could happen?"

Its disgusting that the medical/strength/conditioning team is so inept

You cannot function as a sporting organisation and expect success if your playing list is consistently injured and cannot get on the park.

Draft picks/tactics/game day match ups what's the point ??? if your players cannot play due to being injured ??

West Coast for to long has not had the heat put on them for this....it needs to change

I wonder if Shuey engaged an external consultant for his own issues? He's on a streak of games played that hasn't been bested since he went through 2019 basically not missing a game. So his best turn out of consecutive games in 3 seasons.

So about 3 in a row then yeah

I thought so too. We have been better since the bye which is when Shueys played the bulk of his games. One of those intangibles having the Captain out there.

Or, you know, having your better players out there helps.

Yes we have a million issues with the team/club right now, but the biggest reason imo for our season going to shit has been our availability.

I refuse to believe that we are so completely inept that, at a board level, this hasn't been recognized. We actually have some very intelligent people running the club and some good business brains in charge

Its why we persist with our medical/high performance team that concerns me. I can only assume that we are operating under the old mates act and "jobs for the boys"; its the only answer i have as to why we are continually tolerating ineptitude in these areas, year after year

From memory, hasn't our current fitness boss been at the club like 12-13 years? That's a great thing to list on his CV, but we need to move him on
Ditto our entire medical team

Annoyingly we have the cash and the resources, we should have the best medical and high performance team that money can buy

When we start year after year with a quarter of our list outright injured and another quarter on heavily modified programs, something has to give
