The amount of players is not a reflection. More the quality, players of AA squad potential ect.

If you look at St Kilda. Steele & King are big losses but after that it tends to fall back to role players.

There mid to long term injuries are Hayes (10-12), Hotton (10-12), King (4) Webster (3-4) Mckenzie (IND) Mclennan (IND)
Fwiw they had a potentially even bigger list in Round 1. So it’s not as if they have only just copped injuries now.

Ross, Billings, Jones, Membrey and Windhager are all best 22 in addition to King etc.

I'm studying Physiotherapy atm and like most fields it is being taught very differently to how it was even 2 years ago let alone 10-20 which was mostly just rote learning. Research changes all the time, one of my lecturers wrote a book on pain management and by the time it was published most of the info was outdated. Australia is also so far behind other countries in these areas
Studying physiotherapy hey? Have I got a job for you!

Your comment about poor recruiting is a real head scratcher, I don’t think we could have done much better with our picks over the last few years. We took a gamble with Tim Kelly, and it hasn’t been overly successful, so that was a questionable recruiting decision. If you’re implying that we should have been more ruthless at the trade table then we probably wouldn’t have the likes of Bazzo, Ginbey and Hewett etc. We did pick up a couple of discards from other clubs that weren’t overly successful, but for the most part they cost us next to nothing.
I think the most egregious error theclub has made in its recruiting/list management is in the ruck rivision

After Naitanui's second knee, we should have identified shoring up our ruck stocks as a major priority. You can't base a team around a guy who is at constant risk of breaking down, without a valid backup option. In part thats drafting but its also ensuring, even if it meant paying a premium, that the club retained a hardened, mature journeyman type ruck like Hickey or Vardy- and if that was impossible, just pick a backup ruckman at another club and offer them more money and some job security. And after last year honestly this should have been a top priority. We'd seen neither Williams or Jamieson were nowhere near ready to anchor the ruck division and Naitanui was realistically never going to walk so the two year deal was idiotic.

In terms of when people are moved into retirement, there really does need to be more attention paid to injuries.

Shuey is a really good player still, but you simply can't have an onball division with multiple guys who are constantly at risk of chronic injuries. Each time someone like him or Gov or Nicnat goes down it stops the team in its tracks, and the value he provides when he plays well has to be weighed up against the opportunity cost to a young player, the salary cap spent on him, and the enormous disruption to our gameplan it causes when a key part of our structure disappears midweek or midgame abour three times a year. This might sound like heresy but if you asked me at the end of last year to choose between one of shuey or nicnat retiring if it meant having the extra capspace to match ports offer and keep Rioli, i would have thought that was a no brainer. Rioli has shown flashes of brilliance and has at least 3-4 good years of football in front of him, best case scenario Shuey or Naitanui had two injury blighted seasons where we wouldn't be contending and where their output on field has to be measured against them constantly breaking down and throwing our structures into disarray.

I think our list management these last few years looks a lot like it was done by a fan. Lots of taking care of fan favorites, and lots of rose tinged predictions that guys will keep going on forever, repeated injuries will magically stop, and people who haven't been right for 3 years will simultaneously come good.

Ok so Long is shaping as this week's non-disclosed supplementary bonus mystery injury.

As for Hurn, no one misses consecutive games with "soreness" not even a 53 year old like bunga. Once again the club are trying to hide an injury.

They've not come out of the team though. Stkilda went into the season with injuries (Lyon probably helped) and havent had massive changes week to week.

Won't pay Billings, Jones or Members. They're key components of a St Kilda side that didn't perform.

Looking at injury lists from other clubs and their positions on the ladder.

St Kilda: 14 injured. 1st
Essendon: 12 injured 2nd
Collingwood: 9 injured 3rd
Carlton: 11 injured. 4th
Sydney: 10 injured 5th
Melbourne: 9 injured 6th

Our injury woes aren't unique to clubs and imo doesn't reflect the reason we are poor on field.
Most of those clubs have key personnel out injured the same as us.

Poor recruiting and poor coaching is to blame for our inability to win games imo.

My Kingdom for a healthy hamstring!

If you believe Glen Quatermaine Hurn's issue is a hamstring.

Ryan Daniels mentioned Long's issue is also hamstring.

Burgiel and BWilliams have had hamstring issues in the last week.

The coaches have been going around hitting our guys hamstrings with a hammer?

This is ridiculous - there's no defending the S&C team now. We seem to have hamstring after hamstring injury. That Kofeod guy should probably be dismissed at the B so we have plenty of time to get someone in before preaseason who knows what they're doing.

Do you acknowledge that additional unplanned minutes and a lack of rotations, plus more ToG can all contribute to soft-tissue injuries?

If so, can you also acknowledge that said higher workload happened due to a raft of impact injuries?

Then, do you agree that these soft tissue injuries have all happened after the impact injuries, which resulted in an increased workload on the fit players?

If you can acknowledge these things, you can then understand why these soft tissue injuries occurred.

We also just employed a new S&C coach with a strong track record, who has the players fitter than they've been in years.

All those impact injuries created a flow on effect. It is what it is.

Simpson was asked if Hurn’s was a hammy problem and said no, for what that’s worth.

Also, Simmo confirmed today that Shuey will play, while Williams is a test. Don't get your knickers in a knot people.
Too late!
