Is that still the old tip? Have they repaired the ground? It undulates more than a roller coaster
Dont quote me but I'm fair certain the whole area there is getting redone. I vaguely remember someone telling me the local (very rich) private school is footing a substantial part of it to acquire the rights to use. But I've been known to be wrong before.

Heard Doveton have recruited well. A couple of players from Chelsea Heights and Edi Asp. Could be a big improver
they what recruited 3 4 blokes I think you find every club would of signed up that many aswell.
they will need alot more to not finish bottom 2 with yarra

I thought this had been decided months ago.

I think the bit about 'going into recess' rather than closing is pretty meaningless: I don't see how they could ever come back from this. If the committee had remained in being, they could have worked toward recruiting more players and rebooting the club, like South Yarra did some years ago. With no committee to organise a revival, players aren't going to magically descend upon the ground, looking for a game. They don't appear to have any women's football or netball to bring brothers / partners along either. Unless they have some link with Sandown Lions juniors, there is no way to get new players to restart the place.

With no committee or players, what do they have? 'Going into recess' rather than liquidating might preserve the club's assets, but their greatest asset - their playing field and pavilion - will be lost: it almost certainly belongs to the local council, who will (perfectly reasonably) rent it out to some other club, most likely soccer. The bit about a 'financial burden' implies that the club doesn't have any financial assets - and very likely some large debts. And who is going to 'reach out' and restart a club with no money or players?

Given the shortage of players and the overload of bottom-level clubs in the area, this would seem to be the end of Sandown. A sad end for a club that had Thirds not so many years ago, if I remember rightly.

Back in 2012-2013 ish they had 2 x sides in the Thirds section such was the amount of players they had. In excess of 100 on their list, now within 10 years they have 0……how quickly things change!

Some absolutely shocking decisions made, shit people brought into the club and a bunch of 2s players who rated themselves highly. Not surprised with the downfall they’ve had.

Masala have gone to 3rds comp in the VAFA due to mass exit of players coaches and officials, maybe they should have combined with Sandown and played in SNFL.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of that club and happy to be corrected by those with greater knowledge but I understand they were formed primarily as cultural club for those with sub continental background. Have been nomadic and have moved at least 3 times in their short history, in suburbs already awash with clubs that are struggling. Quite simply the demographic of the area cannot support that many clubs, especially without juniors. Allegations of thuggery and ill-discipline further tarnished their brand last year in the VAFA and they seemed to have moved away from what they were originally intended. A merge with Sandown, or another club would have made sense but I guess both would want to keep their identity.

No doubt there are many fine people trying hard to keep the club afloat, but unless they can get back on track they sadly look like going the same way as the Southern Dragons. If trying to pitch yourself as a local club, the SFL probably a better fit as the travel in the VAFA not all that attractive, particularly if just wanting to play with mates for ships and giggles in the lower grades.

Half the club left for Lyndale. One basket case to another.
