Hah. The AFL's response is to try to change rules in the middle of a season, but only for certain games, so they can confuse the situation even more! They won't do anything about the umpires, ever.
I actually thought the umpiring was very good for the simple reason they put the whistle away in both arcs and allowed the game to be played out as the hard contested slog that it was. I think they were consistant throughout. There were plenty of free kicks not paid both ways but all in all I think the game was better for it.

They were the definition of inconsistent in my book. Too many occasions where substantially the same play on two different occasions adjudicated two completely different ways - as I’ve alluded to previously.

Regarding the runner incident.
Didn't bother me at all at the time and still doesn't now.
Schitt happens.
Personally for me it's a non issue.
Yep it was not the reason we lost

The runner wasn’t the problem.
Adams looked back inside, took time to make the decision to kick, never looked anywhere else.
Blind Freddy knew exactly where the ball was going, and his slow movement made it an easy interception.

Yep umps had little or no effect on the game, some howlers for both sides but the better side won and thankfully the umps didn't change the result.

‘‘I can’t even be really clear on how it feels right now other than not great,’’ Buckley said.
‘‘I am pretty numb. The boys are pretty numb.’’
There were many good moments, from the game and the year.
But none of them mattered when the siren went, a feeling Taylor Adams described as well as he could in the tear-drenched rooms after the game.
‘‘There are more to life than footy but for the next couple of days, or however long, it is going to be tough to feel good,’’ Adams said.
‘‘But I am proud of the footy club and what we have built.’’

So am I Taylor, so am I.:thumbsu:

You just agreed with me.

They dominated in the air. And it was clearly the difference.

Kennedy, Barass, McGovern & Darling took 37 marks between them......

Contested marks for the game were Weagles 23, Pies 15, so most of those were uncontested rather than a domination of the air as you suggest. That's the way they play, chip the ball around.

It certainly advantaged you guys that they put the whistle away in both arcs with all the illegal blocking tactics. Well played smart tactics that umps turned a blind eye too.

Outside that congratulations on the win. You guys controlled the ball movement for much of the 2nd half with slowing down the play and the old Hawks gameplan (that we struggle with) of kicking through our zone and controlling the air.

I see it differently.

Today was more painful than 2011. Obviously 2011 hurt but having won the flag in 2010, clearly lost by 38 points to Geelong and confident we would back up the year later, I wasn't that deflated at the time.

Today is a little like 2002. A team who had been in the wilderness for a few years surges up the ladder and makes a Grand Final unexpectedly before falling just short in the end.

And we survived 2002.
The sun comes up tomorrow

Personally 8 years ago while We won a premiership my life wasn’t as complete.

Here I sit after an absolutely gut wrenching loss and I couldn’t be happier with everything else

2 beautiful children, a loving wife and for a millennial a mortgage ;)

Of course I’d love to be on the other side but hey that’s football

Maybe we’re meant to just fall short

But consider.

At least most of us have seen 1

The amount of uncontested marks they took in what looked like initially being a contested situation was huge.

It didn't even impact on it. Stephenson was never going to get there he just pointed due to frustration...

the game was lost for us in the middle through the 2nd and 3rd quaters. the pies and coaching staff thought the rebound football we were playing in the first would hold up again, but as the gain wore on, the WC forwards started impacting their clearences harder instead of moving onto leads, letting them to control the gain in their front half.
the boys in the middle wont be sleeping for a while i reckon, they did not play their best. Adams again showed why he should be considered one of the better in side mids in the game, he stood up. pendles, sidey were just too soft, not playing with enough ferosity for a granny. good players like those two should be able to knock off a hard tag, especially in a granny. coaches respoded by playing the pair up forward, a miss descision, sidey should have played half back, not FF, same as Mihocek

and dont say we wasted our opportunities either lads, they should have one by 3-4 goals, we were poor defensiely in the last half, only kept ion by individual brilliance from JDG and Mayne, i am so happy we have jordy, he is a real gun.

Onwards and upwards, hope the boys are hungrier for a granny win, at least being a dominant side in the competition over the next few years - be taken seriousely because our best football, ala Richmond, is as pure and amazing as it gets

Go pies - am extremely proud of the season we had, even through adversities, we still triumphed in my eyes, hope u all think the same.

Lost this game at selection.

Moore needed to be picked. Goldsack was an arrogant selection for against Kennedy, he needed to be on Darling.

Darling took bloody 7 marks in one Q...... Selection in defense cost us.

I feel the pain. But the trick is to remember that we're a great f****** football club, that we'll be back amongst it again, and that the victories will come.

It is the pain which makes the glory more glorious. 2002/2003 (oh 2003) were what made 2010 feel so good. For the Eagles today, 2015 feeds their joy in 2018. For us, 2018 will be the ecstasy for another season.
The other side to this is we are a great club, a proud club and we deserve/d a lot more than what we have been able to take our chances at any given time. Including today. No arrogance intended but we should have had a Dynasty the likes of Geelong and Hawks a few times instead of just our Fourpeat.

Losing the big game sometimes feels like we are the laughing stock as much as missing out Finals the last few years. I know it’s not the same, but until we win a flag it’s the only thing that puts that to bed.

I Love this club but it’s just so hard to stomach how many times i’ve seen us lose Grand Finals than win one.

But of late, Dogs and Tigers nab one first strike. So frustrating.

I can only imagine what the Boys and Bucks are going through.

Hey Mike, perhaps it's the standard protocol to sanction such things, but I'm happy to let it be. Troll liking is a fairly weak weapon of choice, and for myself I don't mind if opposition supporters announce themselves as weak types by using it.
I gave this post a like JB.
But in all honesty it was a troll like.

We lost the midfield battle, the defence is what kept us in front till two minutes to go

Is that the kind of like I give you whenever you post in the 'Darcy Moore' thread? You're forgiven, Otto, all is forgiven.

No.
45 appearances for 15 wins, 28 losses, 2 draws.
That makes 11 loses I've been to and 1 win, I missed 1990.
Yeah I'm absolutely gutted at the moment, but for all those potting players, we would never have had the chance if not for their efforts during the year. Hold you head up it was a great game.
