Agree to an extent AG but I actually think there’s a preliminary step that needs to be taken before that: appoint a good head of football.

The days of one senior coach completely running the show are over. The key is to have a high functioning football department where all limbs (players, coaches, list management team, strength and conditioning team) operate in unison and at a high level.

We’ve got issues across all those groups and those issues need to be (a) identified and (b) rectified by the head of that department, Brad Lloyd. He’s had 5 years to get things right and he hasn’t done so.

If the coach goes but Brad Lloyd doesn’t, that is completely farcical given Brad has been involved in sacking and hiring a number of failed coaches. The way he’s put together the assistants leaves a lot to be desired.

Here’s a list of some of his missteps along the way:
  • Signs off on McGovern 5 year deal following 2018 season
  • Signs Andrew Russell on a lucrative contract
  • Signs off on Stocker trade during 2018 draft
  • Part of the selection committee that bows to public pressure and appoints Teague in October 2019
  • Does not change the assistant coaches for 2020 in Teague’s first year (retains the same assistants as Bolton had in 2019)
  • Signs off on Martin 5 year deal following 2019
  • Signs off on Williams 6 year deal following 2020
  • Does not change the assistant coaches for 2021 after an average 2020 (these being the same assistants that were under Bolton)
  • Appoints Worsfold as a mentor, via zoom, for Teague for a few months
  • Review in 2021 found significant failings within his football department
  • Part of the selection committee that appoints Voss
  • Brings in Hamill (who’s only coaching experience is 10 year at St Kilda when they were crap) and Tim Clarke (who he fired from our club in 2018 and then spent 3 years at GC) as assistants
I’m not arguing for the retention of Voss but it’s time to change the head of football to give whoever the coach is the best chance to succeed.
And re-signed an underperforming Russell.

Watching other games and then watching ours is pretty damning.

I heard Sayers pre game - is off to Italy in a couple of weeks, seemed pretty happy with the position he’s left the club in.

Can **** off and stay there.

We’ve sacked club legends for less than what Voss is putting up at the moment.

I really hate the narrative that we need to “stick fat” with Voss for the sake of it.

I’d prefer to watch a bunch of monkeys in the coaches box and stick fat and see how go.

Calling for Voss to be gone is ridiculous. He can’t kick the ball for them. The game plan has been good enough to win enough games to be in the 8, possibly even the 4. Again tonight we were the better team for the majority, and another case of kick straight and we win.

Is that you vossy.

Seriously, we were garbage and never going to win. I never at any point had any belief we could win. We were 2 points down at half time and believed we had no chance.

The forward entries are haphazard and no connection whatsoever, it’s the most horrendous forward line I think I’ve seen in my time following Carlton, for the amount of entries vs what we can convert.

Our shots are usually panicked or snaps on angles, very low percentage shots.

You ok mrs voss?
I know it's tough. And he seems a decent bloke. Just a bit lost.
Hopefully we'll get him the support he needs.

Ha. Didn't read yours before I posted.
:p

I mean just say we keep Voss, in the name of stability. Or he isn't the problem, none of us or on the inside so we don't totally know.

When is there a justification to remove a coach for those who want Voss to remain, when is it justified sacking a coach?

Im not sure why AFL is different to other codes but it seems if you don't succeed the first time around, you never do. Other codes have examples of coaches succeeding second or third time around, we have none. I'd rather the caretaker for the rest of the year, not sure the club pulls the trigger though.

Russell should be under heaps of scrutiny and will surely be gone.

It’s clear to me we backed off way too far in training pre season as a way to avoid injuries, and we look dreadful and unable to compete.
He got re signed under wraps on a big discount from his initial contract. Believe it was another 2 or 3 years, they just didn't announce it because they knew how much hate thered be.

Maybe we signed another Russell? Like Peter Russell Clark… he’d give the blokes some nourishment.

Said it 6 weeks ago. All the waffle about game plans and assistant coaches and presidents and boards etc etc is pointless
They simply can't kick straight.
Why, is anyones guess, seems more mental than physical, but that kills coaches and hope.
Fix that and we are good enough for the eight.
Won't happen this season it seems.
But makes zero difference who the coach is in this situation.

The way we are playing is so haphazard and confidence is shot. Hence the inaccuracy.

A few weeks ago, it was pointed out we scored 21.41 in a 3 week block. Since then, its now 33.65 which is poor. No one seems to want to take responsibility for a shot at goal. To me, Its not unreasonable to suggest that because of this lack of ownership, the fwds lead or move to places where no one will kick it to them and hence the haphazard look of our ball movement. Thoughts?
