I think where possible we need to be building for the future over the short term.

In the second half of the year Sharmam showed he needs be a starting player, still think he could end up a Gunston type player with King and Caminiti being the main targets.

Membrey has been a loyal soldier for a long time, but even before his personal issues came to light I don't think he's done enough in recent years to be a walk up start over two really promising young players.

Think we'd do well to make finals again as I'm expecting Gold Coast, Doggies and Sydney in particular to improve whereas I don't see any team in the comp getting significantly worse.

But the important thing is we have the best young core we've had in 20 years. If they keep developing and we add another couple prospects we could be on the way to a really competitive list. Guys like Owens and Philipou have the potential to be top 10 players in the league and NWM, Windhager and Wilson all seem likely to get the absolute most out of their considerable talent. Think we're on for another year of exploration but at least we know under Ross that there will still be an expectation of results.

I think the RTB has said enough times it's their aim to build around the young blokes but he's clearly still interested in wins to build the culture.
Membrey will play ahead of Hammer this year but as his contract is up l can see them looking to transition in the foreseeable future.
We'll see if Timmy wants to play on in 2025 but the talk of Hammer training as a defender kind of says they reckon we have enough coverage up front.

Poor man’s Fritsch…he’s a level up on Sharman!

He's not as good yet obviously but as for a similar type. He's a kind of medium lead up forward with high efficiency. Fritsch started at 21 yo, played 23 games in his first season for 17.12. Next year played 23 games for 20.16. The third season 18 games and 22.24. Then in season 4 he exploded in their GF year with 59.24. Played pretty much every game he was fit for in that time.

Coops has had 3 season. Game one no minutes, he's then kicked 10.4 from 3 full games and one 39% game time. Season 2 Ratts played him in defence and in he ruck and he still kicked 3.1 from 10 games.

This year he's played 16 games for 15.5 including three games below 35% game time.

Agree re Membrey.

Its nice to finally have some depth in the key forward roles. It makes sense that Caminiti is trialled as a key defender as he is the type of player who would excel in the CHB role. At some stage we are going to have to take some of the rucking work load away from Marshall, so I hope we see Keeler & Hayes getting games also next year. Hayes surely has some luck with injuries and its just a matter of time for Keeler, he is pure silk for a key forward and a capable ruckman.

Owens did well as the 2nd ruckman last season, but I'd hope we look to use him more as genuine midfielder rather than the rucking role. But perhaps he is so good at the role RTB leaves him there - I dont really know? Again its good to have options...

He will if he is playing better than Hammer, he won't if he is not. Crazy to think Saints are going to simply lock some players in ahead of others. As always, RTB will be very focussed on selection integrity.

If our young kids are to step up as we are hoping I would like to think we don’t see much of Ross. I would also like to see stocker get a long run at the midfield if he is at Sandy.

Centre bounce rotation that’s can include Steele, Crouch, Dow, Henry, Owens, Phillipou, Jones, Sincs and Windhager. Surely we can’t keep rolling the same three through there from now on.

The combination of Steele, Crouch & Ross has held us back.
Jones, Dow, Henry, Windhager & Sinclair in particular will be important to the dynamics of our set up!

Spot on - 3 good honest soldiers but not dynamic.

Depending on the opposition all 3 have an important extracting role (particularly Steele & Crouch) but mixing in more speed (Jones, Dow& Henry), the next gen (Windhager) and class (Sinclair) is the future and will position us to mix & match the better midfields.

Owens will also have a role at times (not relief ruck! - please RTB don’t risk a future A grader in that role).

Doubt he would like it but I wouldn’t mind seeing Steele spend a little bit more time forward as he is a nice set shot & decent overhead.

I wasn’t going to do a best 22 this early but it’s a bit boring now training’s finished this year so here goes:

Webster Caminiti Wilkie
Sinclair Battle NWM
Henry Steele Wood
Hill King Phillipou
Owens Membrey Higgins

Marshall
Windhager
Dow

Int:
Crouch
Jones
Wilson
Butler

Sub:
Bonner
Caminiti to be fullback?

I assume Sinclair on bench is a mistake. Your best player is not starting on the pine.

The thread is "best 22" so don't get too hung up about where they are named.

Its more about hoping that Bonner will be able to take Sincs spot on the hbf which allows Sincs plays solely as a mid.

Hence Sincs starting on the bench.

I still think Sincs is little more than a slightly above average mid while he’s an A grade halfback. Personally I hope we leave him there.

Doubt we got Bonner simply for him to provide depth at Sandy.

Sinclair has played a duel role because we needed him to do both.

Having Bonner playing hbf might enable him to become a better mid.

Just won a B & F and AA playing both positions

RTB has already said he would like him in the middle more

Sharman stiff.

I personally think he takes Membrey’s spot for good. Hard to look past his finals performance, and there is more upside to come.
