Hi Goldy supporters,

Went up for the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my time in your part of the world. Stadium on the whole was great but here are a few issues I have. Maybe you agree and hopefully they are merely teething problems for your new home turf.

- Transport issues. Only method of getting there is via shuttle bus, from only three locations. I arrived at Pacific Fair at 5:30 and the queue was around 500 metres long. Took about half an hour to get on the bus, meaning a journey from Main Beach to Metricon takes about an hour and a half. Not great. Bus queues on the way home even worse.

- Big screen behind the goals. What the? Not only would it be distracting to the players when shooting for goal, but the goal posts partially blocked my view of the screen.

- No clock/scores shown (apart from ONE HD feed) on the main scoreboard for majority of second half. Not great.

- No stats shown on the scoreboard the entire match.

- Incorrect score shown on 'strip' scoreboard at 'closed' end during third quarter.

- Food outlets not 'grab and pay' like at the MCG and Etihad, instead everyone queues and the sellers have to get the food and collect the money. Very slow process and huge queues result.

- Turf pretty poor. When was this laid? Seems as though it was very new. Spongey and dug up really easily.

Apart from that though, it's a good looking stadium. What were your thoughts?

We have parking at the ground, so transport not really an issue.
Had a great night.
Pretty sure there are some "software" bugs to iron out
They were handscanning at the auto turnstiles, so obviously that;s not up and running.
Agree the scoreboard was buggy
Good distance between the seats.
Ours seats are on the Eastern side second level wing, so pretty good position, but I was surprised how difficult it was to see play on the opposite wing.
I think they could have narrowed the ground by a few metres.
Having said that I think they had their eye on running events for the Comm Games
Overall have to say I'm thrilled with what we have.
I think supporters from other clubs will enjoy a break on the Coast and the actual event at the Stadium won't be a letdown.

Can agree with all of your points, SJ.

I was in the line at Pacific Fair too. Wasn't too happy with that at all. Thought that was managed poorly... but not sure if it will be like that every week. Maybe from Nerang station it would have been smoother? Dunno.

A friend of mine left the game 10 minutes early to avoid the masses of crowds and waiting. She got away fine, but yeah, I got caught out.

Didn't even notice the scoreboard, to be honest. But I haven't been to many live games, so was watching the game every moment. But I've heard the score was buggy from a few people now. Teething issues, you'd think.

Not sure what was up with the ground. It'd been laid for about a month now, I think? But I did see Stevie J take a huge chunk of it out when he hit it. The guy next to me was screaming at him to put it back. But yeah. Not sure how long it needs to properly 'settle'.

The big screen behind goals has been a talking point for a little while. Probably there for good, but don't know who's idea this was. Doesn't seem the smartest thing to do. I'm sure Jack Riewoldt will love seeing himself take a shot for goal though. ;)

Didn't even bother getting food. Lines were too long. So I guess that answers that statement!

Did anyone else nearly have a heart attack when the fireworks started? Took me by surprise!

You bring up some very good points here SJ, exept the turf thing IMO. It seems new because it was layed only recently, can't recall when exactly though.

You should send these points to the Gold Coast directly at: http://goldcoastfc.com.au/contact-us/

Yeah the turf was only laid a couple of months ago IIRC. Give it time. Carrara was always a top notch surface so it will end up fine.
Agree with the food outlets - we got to our seats with about 4 seconds to go to the first bounce (Perfect timing:D) after waiting close to 30 minutes for some chips and dim sims. Seemed to be a lot quicker getting a beer.
I think the scoreboard will eventually be raised when the stadium is completely enclosed so it won't be an issue.
We had no trouble getting there from Nerang, but had to wait about thirty minutes for a bus back at the end due to the hordes - in future I might kick back at one of the many nice bars and wait for the crowds to die down.
All in all for its first time these were just minor hiccups and should improve in future.

We thoroughly enjoyed the night.....had no problem at the food stalls, each time I went there, only 6-7 people in front of me...which wasn't bad considering..also no queues at the toilets, which is most unusual!

While I was dreading the bus situation from PacFair, that also went smoothly considering the amount of people waiting....but I think overall they need to have different places for pickups, rather than just PacFair.....e.g. outside Australia Fair at Southport..

Thought it was great organisation to have roped off sections for various destinations on the way home.....we just walked over to the Southport part, straight onto a bus and home..and we didn't leave until after the Cats song, so there were huge masses of people around..

IMO the scoreboard is definately in the wrong place, won't last long, bound to get hit regularly by the ball when going for goal.....also must be a distraction for the player having a go for goal...

...sidenote.........I too nearly had a heart attack when the fireworks went off, the split second 1st one to go off happened right in front of us..we were on the fence behind the "host plus' signage...

Have no doubt they will iron out any little problems, but overall thought the night was a huge success...

Well done GC Suns..

*crosses fingers - please be a hot chick, please be a hot chick*

Just kidding, come on down and say hello.

I had a uni field trip today, and one of the places we visited was Metricon. Full tour, almost every level, out on the field, and in the change rooms! I bought a Canon 600D the other day, and I took it today and took heaps of photos. Going to upload them to my flickr soon, and will post a few if you fellas are interested.

before i post them, does anyone know the official rules for photos of the "inner sanctum"? i think i recall somewhere it said strictly no photography, and well, no one mentioned that today... there was one photo of the warm up rooms in particular which i loved!
