Movie Star Wars - Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Spoilers and Rumors

I love all the whiners on Reddit calling the movie bad even though they haven't bothered in their arse to watch it. Last I remember, critic reviews lost all credibility years ago. Why should a bunch of nobodies effect how someone feels over a film? If you haven't seen it yet go watch it yourself to see for yourself.

I grade it as a B+ film with a 7/10 rating.
Why would I pay to see a bad film?

That's just one example of ridiculous/stupid plot elements in the original trilogy though. You can nitpick those films to death too.

In A New Hope, the rebels defeat the Empire by shooting a small bomb into a small hole in their planet-destroying weapon. A plot hole so large they required an entire film to explain how that was possible.

In Return of the Jedi, they remake the Death Star but the rebels manage to blow it up again, this time by flying into it! Yeah, maybe they shouldn't have done that a third time with TFA, but even within the revered original trilogy we have Lucas using the same plot twice.

In Empire we are introduced to the fully unexplained Boba Fett (his backstory is explained in the prequels) who proceeds to die early in the next film by getting eaten by a giant sand worm. We're also introduced to a whole collection of bounty hunters who are never featured again.

The entire original trilogy features ridiculously incompetent soldiers who are so bad at shooting it becomes a talking point across 50 years of cinema.

These movies are filled with stupid fantasy stuff. That's partly why they are enjoyable. If you 'go deep' and nitpick them to death, it all falls apart just like with most fantasy settings.
The plot hole was large granted in the first, but at the time it was certainly implausible space opera and you ran with it. Lore hadn't been established so much and Lucas was simply hoping for a rousing "hero saves the day" single move that was a success

In ROTJ, the flying into it (I always thought) was able to be achieved because the base was still under construction and relatively undefended (and is just cool). The whole '2nd death star' was probably a little redundant when you think about it I agree, (lets try that again but better) but being around at the time as a kid and teen later watching it over and over (I'd have to have watched the OT 50+ times) nobody made a big deal about it, they just accepted it... 2nd death star (cool!) it was the emotional weight of the movie that mattered more (and the happy ending made everyone satisfied) - that was all that was really needed.

Yes, going again with ANOTHER death star in TFA was completely pox

Boba Fett was never intended to be a big player, just a cool costume that resonated at the time. Lucas didn't really know he was going to achieve the cult status he probably would have done more with him. I have no problem with bounty hunters that we never see again. Like Greedo, dude shows up, threatens Solo and is killed. All the scum and villainy at Mos Eisley don't need elaboration on for example.

They are characters that move the story along, I don't see any issue with not expanding on any of them in the OT movies. That's not really a meritorious criticism IMO.

The newer main films are VASTLY more nitpick-able than the OT -the prequels mostly in execution (dialogue, pacing, lame characters etc.), the latter mostly in story and less, but some, means of execution - not that the first 3 are perfect, but they are FAR and away better, tighter, clearer and more engaging movies

Most who don't like R1 like TLJ, so for those people there's at least one Disney film they like. I don't know many SW fans who dislike all of them.
I think they’re all bad movies. I don’t dislike RO though. I have it on the same level as the prequels, good action set pieces brings in good ideas but poorly executed. The rest of the Disney movies are hot garbage though.

fu** the scene at the start with Kylo and stormtroopers on the planet is average... what happened to these movies? The action scenes in TFA were so well done and crisp? Then they progressively got worse, difficult to follow direction, shocking choreography, no flow...

Guess what planet that's meant to be? Mustafar.....

the action scenes were superb in ROS. Has the most Sabre duels as well. Me liked.

Kylo went Donnie Yen in one scene, I enjoyed that too.

Lightsaber duels were so ****ing boring in this. Rey and Kylo just banging sabers against each other again and again.

did you happen to skip the prequels? Also pay attention to lore, video games, books, animated series, Sabre duels are supposed to be “out there”, using force moves. Cheography is just a style.

What Force moves did they use in RoS..?? That was my big issue with it, they were so stilted with no interaction with their environment.

Seems most of the complaints from film critics is that ROS was made to please fans only.

Well new flash Star Wars movies were always meant for fans to enjoy.

Unless you are a star wars fan chances are that you probably won't like this film simples

I'm a Star Wars fan and I didn't like this film. Weird.

I don't think Finn served an actual purpose once he helped Poe get off that star destroyer at the start of The Force Awakens.

Everything he was involved in since that point was contrived. Why do they need a ground assault when they could just torpedo something.

Totally not required. General(ly) Pointless.

So ******* dumb given how vitriolically opposed to the Resistance he was in the previous two.
I thought his I don't care if you win I want him to lose line was a pretty good example of the pettiness of his character. He doesn't think the First Order will lose he just wants to sabotage Kylo and get him out of the way

I don’t think we were watching the same film.
There were definitely parts where Kylo could have killed her if he wanted to in those fights, so much pointless twirling and over commitment - but she was being emotional and that's what he wanted.

That's what I mean, there were no stakes. Neither wanted to kill the other, it was boring.

So, with Rey's father being Palpatine's son. I would presume he is powerful in the force too, but it was odd watching him just stand there whilst he and his wife are killed with a dagger.

I missed that dialogue where Rey's father was palpatines son.

That's the problem with this film so much shit was going and fast that I couldn't pay attention to that detail

I just loved Poe's little eyebrow raise at the end and her shaking her head lol. Isaacs was my favourite bit of this film.

The bloke just has chemistry with everyone, its crazy.

Poe and Zorri.
Poe and Finn.
The little scene where he's arguing with Rey it looked like they were going to get it on.

The thing I hated most in this movie, the one thing I couldn't reconcile in my head, was Reylo, but I tell you what if it was Polo I'd be like "well look fair enough Ben can't really blame ya".

Pretty sure the theme in TLJ was that the Jedi Order had completely forgotten what the original texts were about, which was why they were irrelevant to people like Yoda and Luke...but for Rey's generation they probably were relevant.

When was this stated? Pretty sure it was said a few times that the old Jedi ways are no longer needed, and the hubris etc that emerged from their approach. When was it suggested that the Jedi forgot what the texts were originally about? It seemed the existence of the texts themselves was contentious, which is why Luke/Yoda decided to burn them.

Who said they were relevant for Rey's generation? When?

I was fine with that concept, if they need to be discarded then go for it. But no. Fast forward to the end, boom! Subversion! Here are the very texts that we were repeatedly told are no longer required. Lovely.
