He has had another incredible season. Best small forward this year by a mile. He sits 4th in the Coleman with only Buddy, Cloke and J Riewoldt ahead and the runners up only kicking 7 goals more than him. But not only for his stats but how he's contibuted pulling this team up when we were down. When others struggled to find ways to kick goals he has taken it upon himself to get us over the line, and at the age of 31 he has to be rewarded with a much deserved AA honour. Well done and thanks Milney on another epic year, we love ya!

You've got to be kidding. 1% chance of getting selected at best. 100% deserves it, but it wouldn't be the first time.

Pfft, have you guys seen Garlett recently? Amazing form. Hell, even Rioli only playing half the season should get it over him.

In fact, I am completely for Franklin being picked in both the Full Forward and Forward Pocket position.

HF: Swan Cloke Walker
FF: Franklin Franklin Goodes

If he misses out this year, the conspiracy can be confirmed.
Milney has missed out to B. Johnston, N. Brown, M. LeCras & L. Davis in seasons gone, surely he has no-one to bump him this year.
About the only move left for the AA committee to deny the Tiprat, is to not name a small forward but a resting rover in the pocket.
I wouldn't put it past them.

You guys are right, they prob will screw him. Theres one spot available in the forward line after Cloke and Buddy. If they give it to Rioli or Walker, Im gonna be really pissed again.

Just like Lenny was a lock for AA in 2010. Selectors ignored him, he went on to win the Norm and proved them wrong.

Not suggesting that'll happen here however (I wish :D).

Surely has to be selected this year, hard to believe he hasn't won an AA selection already. If he doesn't make the AA team after the year he's had he never will.

Dal Santo also has to be a good chance, been consistently one of our best players.

Whos the best CHB in the comp? Surely Fisher has to be nominated for that possition too. I agree on Dal aswell, he should be nominated. But of all the players, Milney should be the one. Theres just no one better in that position this year.

Should be, probably wont be, but who really gives a stuff. Its a joke of an award these days anyway. Players arent picked in positions they actually play v(ala Dane Swan in fwd line).

BigFooty will go into a meltdown should it occur that Milne will win the Norm Smith in a winning Grand Final, it will be both entirely hilarious and absolutely atrocious to witness in that I am hoping like hell that it happens just to see common people lose their marbles entirely. :thumbsu:

Also, won't get picked in the squad, will make the token 50 pat on the back, more than likely Jack will make FF, Cloke CHF with Franklin in a pocket leaving 1 space which will go to any excess midfielder.

Just want to say that I agree that he should definitely be AA this year.

Have watched a number of Saints games this year and this guy is so under-rated. He can do things others can't. It's funny the difference in perception the media and public seem to have towards Rioli and Milne, similar players imo. They seem to rate Rioli as an unmatched footballing genius, whist Milne is seen as simply a goal sneak and a bit of a novelty act.

Mine is a freak imo.

I think there are only 3 Saints with a chance at AA; Fisher, Dal and Milney. I think 1 will probably get in. Don't know which one though.

Edit: On the above post I see your point. The only problem is that a novelty act doesn't kick nearly 500 goals over a 10 year career. :p
Perception won't change though, he has been a much better player under Ross. Does the hard stuff, works hard and isn't just a front runner anymore.

The AA selectors may refuse to acknowledge him, just as sad-sack egomaniacs like Grant Thomas may continue to denigrate him.
But the men that count in this game are in no doubt about the true measure of Milney...

Swans must stop Milne

Coach John Longmire said shutting down St Kilda small forward Stephen Milne would be vital to the Swans' chances of winning this weekend's elimination final.

The goalsneak has been the Saints' most effective forward in 2011 – underlined by the fact he has booted the first goal in nine matches so far this year.

"He gets them going," Longmire said.

"Milne has kicked over 50 goals for the season. He is one of the best I've seen as a small forward."

Speaking ahead of Swans training on Tuesday, Longmire hinted Milne would be confronted by multiple opponents throughout the match.

2009 was the worst snubbing. He was just as critical as a forward as Riewoldt was in some of those games. And what do they do? Move a midfielder to his spot so Judd can get a run in the midfield on the back of his reputation, just like every other year.

Betts won't get in above him. Not even they will stoop that low.

He has his work cut out to earn selection, though. Like the afrementioned 2009 where he was borderline unstoppable in the forward half.

The AA selectors may refuse to acknowledge him, just as sad-sack egomaniacs like Grant Thomas may continue to denigrate him.

It's both refreshing and frustrating that Longmire rates him that highly. Shame GT isn't coaching against us on Saturday!

He MUST be included in the AA team this year. It's the least he deserves for such a remarkable career in what must be one of the most thankless positions on the ground.

Can't complain with those selections. Milne, Dal Santo and Fisher were really the only Saints players good enough and consistent enough to warrant AA selection.

Goddard has had a very good second half of the season but his poor first half cost him. Have to wonder how Swan made the squad though when he was pretty much in the same boat, ie. poor first half of the season and good second half.

Plugger, I think the difference is Swan actually had a pretty damn good start to the season, then dropped off in form considerably for the middle part of the year, and then once back from Arizona was good again.

I think it stems from the fact that they have 1 meeting in the middle of the year and 1 at the end, so when they had the first meeting Swan was just starting to tail off from an excellent first few games, and the second meeting he was back to ultra high stat getting.

Where as Goddard had a pretty average first half so when they met the first time he was nowhere near consideration but the second time was going well.

So I see it as;
Swan
1st meeting: Had a great start, let's put him in
2nd meeting: Had a terrible middle part of the year but we've forgotten about that due to great late season form, let's put him in

Goddard
1st meeting: Bad start, let's not put him in.
2nd metting: Now going well enough to be put in but had a bad start so doesn't make it.
