Sneaky chance for the Coleman if he stays fit. If our ball movement forward is quicker than previous years I expect he will be the target for the majority of entries. With McEvoy/Reeves/Lynch, Gunston and/or Kosi around the opposition can't afford to double team or otherwise put too much focus on him.
Love the optimism and hope he goes well, but Lewis for Coleman is 1000 / 1 and some

Hats off to the club and their social media dept, as there seems be more content from training, players, assistants and the intra this year than ever before.

I’d love to use omeara as a game breaker rolls Royce instead of a grunt midfielder who needs to lead all the pressure activity. Play him as a high half forward with runs through the middle. Save his best efforts for late in the quarter and when we need to change momentum etc. not sure if that is the plan but I think we would get most out of him doing that. Mitchell can also prosper off of the hff.
I like the idea a lot. Does he have it in him physically? Is he a good enough finisher? They are the queries. I would like to see him on the wing and out of the middle if they don't try him in your role..

I’m worried that Jiath and Day will both miss Round 1. They’ve barely been sighted this pre-season. :(
I think you're right. But that is ok as will give early opportunities to others. I'd prefer to not rush them in both too valuable.

There’s some absolute crackers going around atm but this one hilarious.

Love having Harvey and Mitchell there to mentor the young midfield group. All we need is Buckley to come down in some capacity and we'll have three of the best of the modern era, all of which excelled in different areas.

Sorry, we've already filled our quota of ex- Pies players at our club.

See now THAT's what I'm talking about!!!! So nice to find older eyes than mine to have seen times I missed and can speak to Hawthorn legend.
Heath came down to the Hawks in 68', the year I was born, and his last season in 75' was my first really following the team.
We were damn good in 1975, finished on top regular season but I was nervous about that Grand Final with the Kangas.
They had a devastating list of champions and mongrels evenly spread and they could sweep away teams before them effortlessly when they were flowing.
Kekovich, Breidis and Crosswell were the dirty hitmen that allowed Greig, Schimma, Cable and Blight to soar with incredible skill.
My ever abiding dislike for the Kangaroos was born that year when even Knightsy couldn't stop them, though he was glorious in his efforts.
He got them the next year though.

if you want to read one of the great sporting books, get a copy of The Coach written by John Powers, which mainly focussed on Ron Barassi who was desperate during the 1977 season to seek revenge against Hawthorn after we beat them up in the 1976 GF (that was the game when Keith Greig fainted on the wing as the Jai Newcombe look-alike rushed past him in a blur and apparently connected with his glass jaw).

Do yourself a favour and get a copy of that book because it’s a fabulous read. The book pays great respect to Hawthorn, its great players and John Kennedy senior.

Whilt I despise Geelong and Essendon, I always respected North during that period of great rivalry because they had come from struggle street as we had and built a terrific side during that decade against the odds and through bloody good management. They also had some great players who were similar to the Hawthorn mould. It’s really not surprising that Kanga then went on to coach North. I doubt he would ever have been induced to coach any other AFL (VFL) side.

In order to win premierships you need to kick at lest 110 points a game. 2021 we averaged 74 points.
Where do we find an extra 6 goals a game?
I don’t think the majority will come from just one player but upticks in goals from multiple players. Keep in mind our problem for a while now has been the delivery i50 which was slow and easy to defend so one would think with a game plan that has faster ball movement we won’t be as predictable getting it in there.

The downside to playing faster along with being such a young team is on an off day there’s a higher chance of us getting belted by a big margin which hasn’t really happened to us for a long time. Yeah we’ve lost a lot the last couple of years but not thumped due to us playing slow and safe damage control type footy.

Hasn't been the case since 2015.
Melbourne averaged 85 last year.
Richmond 85 in 2019
WC 91 in 2018
Richmond 91 in 2017
Bulldogs 84 in 2016

Jiath a big chance to be right by then as he’s very close to rejoining the main group.
Day is probably 50/50 at this stage, you’d think.

Mitch Lewis!

If he kicks 8 every week then that's almost 7 extra per game.

Point being he would be massive odds (wouldn’t be on the first few pages of betting) and no real chance of winning the Coleman.
As long as he’s running out there each week he’s a chance.

They loved the 10 year rule.

I'd be putting a stack on him if I saw his odds at even just 100/1.

Even just last season he wasn't flash hot but he still kicked at least a goal or more in every game he played with a 71% conversion. 4.8 marks a game also. Now with all the changes I previously mentioned (better midfield delivery, more experience around him, more team focus on attack, and his own mental and physical improvements this pre season) he's got as good a chance as any young key forward to have a breakout year.

From there it's just a matter of luck being on his side. Because as we both agree in principle; he's only a slim chance, but he is a chance.
