FORMER Port Adelaide vice-captain Jacob Surjan has joined the growing list of Power players looking for a new home. The club is headed for a massive list clean-out at the end of the year.
...
In all, there are as many as nine Port players who have been linked with moves or are known to be in the trade mix.

Could really potentially be a win win for both parties if we can get something decent for him in return.

Oddly enough I'm not upset by this.

There's been a noticeable drop off in his SANFL form which suggests he's made his decision a couple of weeks ago.

1 bad year and he wants out - there's more going on here than we know about.

Sorry to see Surj go but the writing's been on the wall for a while now. At his best a terrific negating small defender but even his SANFL form has been no more than ok. He hasn't really been considered for selection since Yarran burned him.

Tredders has almost been dismissive of him in a couple of comments in his weekly Adelaide Now blog. Maybe he has his thoughts?

Warren shared his thoughts this morning on MMM. In response to Dale Lewis suggesting, that as an ex-captain of the club, Warren should take Surj aside, have a chat with him and suggest he stick with it, get fit and work hard to get himself back into the side, Warren replied with- "..yep, I did that quite a while ago......."

Tredrea also added he spoke to Surjan a couple of weeks ago where Surjan said he's "quite happy playing SANFL footy."

Without saying it directly, Tredrea clearly indicated Surjan is done at Port and I get the feeling Tredrea was suggesting it's been Surjan that has caused that.

U give us Surj and 1st rounder for McIntosh, yeah, good and fair deal.

Surj and pick 4 for a reserves ruckman? Get your hand off it or you'll go blind.

is there a reason no source has been mentioned in the article other than a comment about Surj and a growing list of port players looking elsewhere?

No source referenced means it's a journalists opinion

Thanks for that. I was getting the impression that is Warren's position.

I'm sure there will still be some that think he should be getting selected in the AFL side, even though he's not doing the work, and doesn't have the form to warrant it.

I wonder if he will still be happy playing SANFL, when he doesn't have an AFL salary to fall back on. Piss weak attitude from a former team leader (if its true as quoted).

Primus has had every right not to play him, if all of this is true.

Not sure what to think. Loved him last year and the years before that because he was so ferocious at the footy and beat his man with regularity. But this year, when he's played it's been in the forward line and apart from a couple of good moments he's struggled. He's the kind of player we should be playing, all heart and won't ever stop. There has to have been a problem somewhere and I don't think it's between him and Motlop, because they both won't be here next year. Kind of sad it's come to this, but if we can get a reasonable player/draft pick for him I'll be pretty happy.

Look at that, soon as he wants out the masses jump off board! Didn't see that coming!

I'm guessing the reason he wants out is cos of the ass backwards selection policy this year? He'd rather play than, y'know, not play? Seems a pretty simple equation to me.

When he sits there and watches Ebert, Salopek, Salter, Pettigrew and Andrew Moore off a 5 possession performance come into the side and him still be left out, why the hell would anyone wanna stick around.

I'll never forgive PAFC for this.

I think Surjan was dropped maybe in 2008 due to lack of workrate (?) which may be what Tredders was talking about. Surj of course went on to be a near AA small defender in 2009, so it'll be interesting to know where it all went pear shaped for him.

Also, in regards to this Tredrea thing... don't forget Tredrea is now a member of the media and is always looking for stories. So when he will approach a player, they're not gonna talk to him like a mate, they're gonna talk to him like a member of the media.

i know ALOT more about this situation than im allowed to say, and youll notice I havent said anything about surjans non selection this whole time.

but what I can say is that surjan made his intentions known months ago and was told he wouldnt play for the power again unless he changed his mind - he said "fine" and went back and hasnt been considered since

he had been approached about whether his stance had changed in the leadup to the showdown and said no - so this story was going to be leaked to the media to distance matty primus from criticism due to surjans non selection

my source on this is extremely close to the situation

Personally I doubt he has much value on the open market at the moment. Shame as he's one of my faves too.

As Warren Tredrea said this morning, although they get on well, he's had a discussion about the poor pre-season and that he needed to harden up. Apparently didn't happen.

Given he probably wont be around next year, he's also prevented the Magpies from developing a young half-back for the long term. If that's the case, should he be stood down from the Magpies as well?

Just putting it out there?

Its dissapointing because I think its been clear hes been quite passionate about our club and has been proud to play for Port Adelaide, and I dont think theres many on our current list that you can say the same about. However, this is something ive known for months so i've had time to get over it and its no shock that its in the public arena now.

You could tell by the Carlton game hes not fit enough to be playing AFL and his SANFL form is too erratic, despite often large numbers.

I hope he changes his mind but I cant see it happening and if we can end up getting another player that will be a regular in the side then its for the best.

Phoenix, you are saying he made his intentions known months ago he wanted to leave? If so understandable he isn't playing.

Obviously the whole missus episode has destroyed something.

But it's hard for us to make calls on something we don't really know anything about.

At least we should get some fair compensation in return if Rhode can do his JOB.

Listening to him on Triple M and reading his articles he seems like more of a Port Adelaide fan saying the truth and his opinions. Listen to Roo and Tredders on Triple M when they are comentating their own team when they are down, they seem pissed off and hard on the players just like any fan would be.
