i know ALOT more about this situation than im allowed to say, and youll notice I havent said anything about surjans non selection this whole time.

but what I can say is that surjan made his intentions known months ago and was told he wouldnt play for the power again unless he changed his mind - he said "fine" and went back and hasnt been considered since

he had been approached about whether his stance had changed in the leadup to the showdown and said no - so this story was going to be leaked to the media to distance matty primus from criticism due to surjans non selection

my source on this is extremely close to the situation
Why would a player tell the club they wanted to be traded in the middle of the season mid contract? What a load of bollocks.

This is a PR move to justify in the minds of supporters why he's not being picked. Someone should just ask Surj through social media and see what his responses are.

Been there tried that, hes not budging.

i find it all very strange, he clearly loves the club, both Magpies and the Power yet he wants away, he has a long term GF, i presume an Adelaide sort too.

its clear there are some huge pieces of the puzzle missing here, guess we will just have to wait to find them out.

whether it was a trade demand, or an "I want to leave" or "im not playing under primus" or "this is rubbish I want to grow my hair back" I dont know - but the line in the sand was drawn by surjan many months ago

I refuse to believe that an AFL player would say they're happy playing in the SANFL Phoenix. Surj wasn't playing great footy a couple of months back. He's only recently returned to some decent SANFL form in the past 6 weeks. He'd have no bargaining power to make such demands returning from his knee injury and coming back off some irregular form. I think your source may be pulling your leg.

People keep leaking comments about off field stuff with Surj yet nobody seems capable of backing them up. That's how you know it's bollocks.

If Surj stays great, if he leaves I'd hope we're reasonably compensated as that leaves a big hole at the small defender position in the long run. Logan has been OK in patches and Pittard is a half back flanker. That's all we have.

This is such a confusing situation. Judging by their on-field actions, the only players who you could say has more passion for the club than Surjan are Logan and Cassisi. But everything you hear about him off-field seems to indicate that he's lazy and dispassionate. I just don't get it? If we hear that someone like Westhoff or Hitchcock or someone was lazy with his dedication outside of the game I could understand it, because they're not always doing all they could on the field either. But Surj?

i can guarantee my source - im happy to out my source to the mods to clarify this, but dont wish to name them publicly
I'm happy to call your bluff. A PM will suffice and I'll make up my own mind as to your source's validity and credibility if you wish?

I'm not having a go at you Phoenix, just so you understand. I tend to discount most rumours or gossip from the outset.

Look at that, soon as he wants out the masses jump off board! Didn't see that coming!

I'm guessing the reason he wants out is cos of the ass backwards selection policy this year? He'd rather play than, y'know, not play? Seems a pretty simple equation to me.

When he sits there and watches Ebert, Salopek, Salter, Pettigrew and Andrew Moore off a 5 possession performance come into the side and him still be left out, why the hell would anyone wanna stick around.

I'll never forgive PAFC for this.

Bernie, your passion for players is commendable but this has been brewing with Surjan for a while. It's not something that just happened overnight.

If he had the right attitude, he'd be playing. End of story.

Didn't he fly to Perth as an emergency for the West Coast game?

I know it's not REALLY selection but close enough to cast doubt on the story that the club is refusing outright to play him.

IMO, if he has let it be known that he wants out, I have no issue with him not being selected.

If that were true, he'd be playing.
It's possible that the new collection of coaches are happy with the performances of our small defending positional role players in the AFL given they brough Surj back in as a forward recovering from his knee injury? Let's not pretend Surj was playing a great brand of footy in the SANFL, but his last 6 weeks have definitely been better.

I don't believe the conspiracy theories. The truth is easier explained that Primus prefers Logan, Pittard and Jacobs and or O'Shea in that rotation. I'm not sure why, but that's the most plausible explanation.

i can only assume that the whole Motlop-Surjan-Girlfriends thing holds alot more weight than i originally thought?

Maybe he isnt happy with the way the club dealt with it?

Perhaps he loved Choco and hates Primus?

Perhaps he is a whiney little bitch?

Who knows

All i know is that its sad to lose Surj. We all know what he is capable of and i'll be honest, he was one of my favourite players purely due to the way he played the game

Totally understand the clubs stance if he told them months ago he wanted to leave. To be honest i cant understand any other reason why he wouldnt be selected so it does make sense

All i hope for now is we get adequately compensated for him

I know it's been brewing with Surjan for a while. What's the "right attitude"? I would've thought wanting to play was the right attitude. Apparently wanting to play AFL football is the wrong attitude.

Yes, I've known he's wanted out for a couple of months also. From what I hear, there are a few Melbourne clubs interested. Unlike everyone else speculating, I'm just saying it's because the club wouldn't play him. If you honestly believe he was happy playing SANFL footy, you're an idiot.

Chad wanted to play, and obviously could play, but wasn't selected (until injuries forced them to). So he retired.

Surj wanted to play, and obviously could play, but wasn't selected. The club obviously didn't see Surj as an important part of their future and so he wanted to move to a club who did.

The club's in the wrong here, not the player. This is one of the main reasons I've been down on the club this year - because they're going down the wrong path with player development. Throwing in kids with senior players who don't give a toss while leaving senior players who give too much of a toss on the sidelines.

See Melbourne this year. That's where we'll be in 2014. Probably worse actually, cos Bailey can actually coach.

Saying you want to play, and doing the things required to play at the level (like getting fit enough) are two very different things.

His fitness looks ordinary, either his knee is still causing him issues, or he hasn't done the work required and is expecting a game based on his name. Perhaps next year his fitness will be back ... perhaps he's just lost the motivation to do the extra work that got him into the side in the first place.

Given the apparent fitness issues with our whole team and the qualifications Matthew Primus made about taking it easier on the team in the pre-season, there would be some validity to the comment that Falloon may have written Surj a poor rehabilitation program.

Falloon's not been ticking the boxes at Port Adelaide would you agree?

I still remember his come back from injury game against the crows. Didnt look like a player who couldnt play. Sparked a revival along with westie and ebo.

Watching Johncock chop us up on the weekend and having surjan running around in the two's made me shake my head. Who curtailed Stiffy on the weekend. No One. Clearly we didnt learn any lessons from our win first time around

Yep ... and then he got subbed ... rightly or wrongly, the club believed he had run out of puff.
