Spot on Caro. Some will still give her no credit.

Thanks for sharing and I agree with everything she said, but I couldn't bring myself to care, largely because I know it will have no impact whatsoever.

This move by the AFL is one of an organisation acting with complete impunity, because they know they only have one audience they need to cater to. If the Victorians are happy, then the AFL is happy.

They've shown time and time again they are more than willing to wear whatever criticism, backlash, supporter angst, media scrutiny etc. that comes their way for mistreating the Northern clubs.

"We all know which players will star for their teams in September, but who are the X-factors?"

* names Blakey who was just named in the AA squad yesterday *

Incredible insight

I wonder how Port feel about getting Thursday night? I imagine they're not unhappy. AO will be filled no matter when.
I imagine it was all about ratings in Victoria and advertising revenue.

How about Cats fans?

Really? I thought most leagues don't have finals, just the "premiership".

That's my point? The 'minor premiership' is finishing top of the table at the end of the H&A season. That's Horse's point. In other codes finishing top of the table is more important than winning a 3/4 game Finals' series.

Why did any of us think things would improve under this regime?
This bloke and his brainless, spineless offsider are turning the game into a joke.
Agree Jewels.

I think we need to stop thinking that the anti-Northern/pro-traditional state (whatever you want to call it) agenda is related to bias, and that all we need is some fair-minded, footy-loving folk to oust the corrupt, money-hungry robber barons at the top.

It's not a bias, it's a business model. Every administration from here on out will adopt it, because it has become the norm for the AFL and all of their sponsors and investors. The existing power structure will never allow power to go to any such person described above ^ because they are outside that power structure.

It is sort of like the congressmen/women and senators in the US. Now that they've been bought by donors and corporate interests, they govern on behalf of those interests, not their constituents, and both parties crush any candidate who attempts to challenge that status quo.

The game we love has been bought for good now.

It was never any different.

Yeah I don't really get this depressing realisation of some big shift in the game when it's always been like this, and if anything it's a lot better than it was (mandatory MCG finals each year for instance).

SEN named their AA team;

Blakey BP, Gulden wing, Heeney HF.
Longmire coach.

No Chad.

I wouldn't mind the actual AA selectors thinking outside the box this year.
I don't think there is a stand out small fwd and while the team can often have midfielders jammed into the side I actually think someone like Chad would be a decent call as a FP for this season.

SEN have Dylan Moore in that role, but he and Chad have not greatly dissimilar fwd 50 stats.
Basically even on scoring shots, Chad leads I50s, whereas Moore has the advantage in I50 marks and tackles.

Possibly a bit of Sydney bias, but I just don't think Moore has had an AA quality season as a small fwd and a 'dynamic' mid would be a better option.

FWIW, comparison of their season to date;

It does somewhat make sense this way because otherwise one team gets a 6 day break and one an 8 day break for the PF otherwise. Because if we'd been Friday we or GWS would have to be Friday for the SF with Port/Gee having to be the Saturday, meaning they get a longer break. But then we'd have had to be the Friday the following week meaning Por/Gee SF winner would only have a 6 day break. This way I think? Everyone gets a minimum 7 day break AND we get the Friday PF (assuming we beat the Giants) meaning we get the longer lead in to the GF.

He's explained it terribly but all he had to say was that if you work back from the assumption we make the GF and thus need the Friday PF if we win the QF, then we need to play on the Saturday for the QF to allow other teams to also get a minimum 7 day break between games.
