TAC Cup Under 19's

Oakleigh's Under 19's are Harry Croft, Richard Jones and Billy Burstin in 2008

hey bigjohnny
I've heard a fair bit about this rich jones mate, apparantly a blossoming ruckman who only needs a bit of meat and maybe another inch, and would be well worth a punt on the rookie list at the end of the year. Good leap, good mark apparantly... is all this true or am I mixing him up with some other tall blonde guy?

TAC CUP U19s 2008

Bendigo - 1 (Jordan Florance)
Calder - 2 (Patrick Hayes, Daniel Buckley)
Dandenong - 1 (Marc Westcott)
Eastern - 2 (Grant Lofthouse, Andrew Renton)
Geelong - 3 (Chris Lynch, Nick Sutcliffe, Luke Delaney)
Gippsland - 3 (Tristan Francis, Haelen Kay, Daniel McLinden)
Murray - 0
Nth Ballarat - 2 (Ryan Hobbs, Bryn Weadon)
Northern - 2 (Matt Quinton, Adam Woodhams)
Oakleigh - 3 (Billy Burstin, Harry Croft, Richard Jones)
Sandringham - 4 (Matt Suckling, Zach Sengstock, Wil Johnson, Nick Wynne)
Western - 5 (Jayden Post, Al Riak, Nick Dimartino, Daniel Jensen, Steve Kennedy)

So what do we make of all that?

Baffling that Murray don't choose any U19s - particularly when they are the only zone which doesnt have an aligned VFL team. You'd think they'd have a few 19 yr olds keen to remain in the system and stay at home another 12 months. Maybe the local club mentality and money is a problem up there?

Sandringham obviously have an extra concession - allowed four 19 yr olds.

No idea how Western have ended up with five either? Jayden Post played VFL reserves today with Williamstown so perhaps he'll end up playing a bit there, but I'd like to know what the Jets rule is. Surely they cant have five playing at once?

Only four Western under 19's are allowed to play in any game. Post may play with the Williamstown Reserves when Western has a bye, as may DiMartino and Daniel Jensen

McLinden's a star, get on him, will have a big year

Very happy to see Haelen Kay go around again. I rate him highly. Last year was his first year in TAC Cup anyway, so even though he was top aged it was sort of like he was bottom aged if you get my drift.

Can anybody tell me anything about Jordan Grant? Wasn't he promised an under 19 role with Geelong after he did his knee round 1 last season? Has he done it again or just dropped off the radar?

He's back at the club co's he was included in the team dinner the other nite and Turner welcomed him back after last years hardship. The rest of the boys cheered him up as he was last to be presented to the dinner group.

Don't know his age - Footyman you are up on all that can you help there?

Grant was training there preseason, thats confirmed. But hes not on the Falcons list submitted last week. He's not on any VFL list either.

Wonder whether they're trying to get special permission to list four 19 year olds?

Doesn't that make him an 18 year old not 19 if the draft cut off is 30/04? I am not sure on all that - he's not 19 till October

I guess its probably easiest to refer to a players age category as the age that a player turns in the current year.

A "19 year old" or "overage player" is born in 1989 (even if they don't turn 19 until after this footy season).
An "18 year old" or "top age player" is born in 1990.
A "17 year old" or "bottom age player" is born in 1991.

The cut off age for players in this years draft is 30/4/1991.

Why do sandringham and western get more under 19's than the other clubs, surely there only allowed to play 3 at a time. And also has anyone heard about the Sandringham U19's becuase i certainly havent..

Western successfully argued that they are disadvantaged by having a smaller zone. I guess their lack of onfield success over time is evidence of that. I think they're allowed extra to try and make them a more competitive side.

Sandringham are severly hampered by school football - extra 19 year olds strengthen their side. The rule also allows those guys who miss a chance to play a full season of TAC Cup due to school footy the opportunity to play in the competition and be further watched by AFL clubs.

Their U19s this year - Suckling did his ACL early in 2007, a real leader who wears his heart on his sleeve. The other three - Sengstock, Wynne and Johnson - were more involved in the school footy last year. But all except Johnson were on the Dragons list last year so I'm surprised you havent heard of them.

So does this mean Jordan wont get on their list or is it still being worked out, maybe he should have talks with the bushies, i know he has family up there maybe they will be willing to add him on their list..
saw him play in 2006 he looked as if he was one to watch..

They're doing well a lot of the 19 year olds which is good to see.

Not sure about DiMartino, I thought his injury was a longer term one. Kennedy seemed to make a remarkable recovery only missing two games. Post has been playing really well for Western.

Suckling at Sandringham continues to get better and better all the time coming off his knee reco.

Lofthouse has been kicking goals at Eastern in the last couple of weeks.

They're having an impact, hopefully these guys get a taste of VFL footy later in the season. I think that is the intention of AFL Victoria.

Surprised Wynne made it on - I was on him all last year and I think even had him as a rookie chance in my mock rookie draft. I know some clubs were looking at him mid year but he tapered off.

has anyone seen Pat Hayes for Calder play? I heard he's showing real promise despite Dangerfield kicking a bag on him.
What are his chances of getting Drafted?
