Traded Taylor Adams [traded to Sydney for pick #33]

Happy for Adams, I think it should be a win-win for both clubs.

He has a lot to offer as a footballer but unfortunately Tom Mitchell is just a bit better at that role for us, and it's a tough role to carry multiple of. Not sure who he would have been able to push out in our midfield out of Daicos, Daicos, De Goey, Mitchell, Sidebottom, Crisp, Pendlebury. He was already forced to play a 50% forward 50% midfield role this year, he will get to play his role much better at the Swans.

He was also really good mates with Grundy when at the Pies. Great get for the Swans.

If Adams' contract has anything close to a rumoured seven figure value for that last year then Collingwood would be paying Sydney to take him. Pies first and Adams to Sydney for a second round pick.

Except the club actually want to keep him…

It’s not exactly like they are pushing him out the door for a salary dump. So on that basis I’d assume the contract really isn’t that bad.

Fail to see what Adams and also Grundy if it happens can do to help Sydney,
Unless there getting them for reduced dollars.

IMO it helps them enormously. Fills the gaping holes they have in their structure and makes them a premiership fancy in my books.

Gives them the inside grunt they desperately lack and a dominant ruckman.

It’s great needs based targeted trading. Not too dissimilar to what we did last year.

I’m a big Grundy critic but their rucks were horrid this year, and he’s a big upgrade. Mills won’t be back before the bye most likely, and they need a ball winner to fill the gap.

Hickey was ok when he played, unfortunately he was injured quite a bit and McLean isn't a full time ruck.
Ladhams is a potato

What are you rattling on about... he's requested the trade.

Collingwood don't want him to go anywhere and we're not paying them shit.

Wish I had a crystal ball,Just can't see Adams and Grundy getting the swans a premiership.
We shall see Adam.

very strange move by the Swans. Three years is two years too many for Adams. Slow and cant kick.

Pick 23 and Pick 44 for Adams and 36 would be likely. Comes out at Pick 29 for Adams which i think is fair.

Comparing the best player this century to Taylor Adams waasnt on my bingo card for this year.

Ill call it now. Will be in the reserves by round 20 next year.

Swans young mids are already way better than him
Swans young mids are good, they need leaders around them especially in the close games.
We gave up good leads to loose this year

My simpleton perspective is that the Swans are trying to fix the gaps that led them to fall from a grand final appearance to 8th in one season. There are four things that went wrong for Sydney this year
  • key defensive depth (McCartin x2 and Rampe played 74/75 games in '22. They combined for 39/69 games this year. Paddy now gone.)
  • key forward output (Franklin kicked 52 in '22, Reid played ruck/forward astutely. Buddy now retired and Reid who knows)
  • rucks (Hickey's decline in '23 was significant, and Ladhams couldn't do anything more. Hickey is now retired)
  • midfield depth (JPK retired after '22, while Parker declined this year and Mills won't be available until late next season)

Hamling although troubled by injury, if fit, is a really good pick up and gives them much better cover against power forwards.
They'll back McDonald and McLean to further improve as key forwards and kick 70+ between them.
Grundy comes in to be an equivalent to where Hickey was in the last two seasons before this year. Grundy more durable too.
Adams patches up the Mills' injury and adds an experienced leader to mix with the younger mids. Jordon boosts their wing depth.
