Taylor Walker is now 97kg

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the stats on websites or the AFL Record; the AFL player I know, they stats aren't accurate.

But still, even if he's put on 5kgs, that, combined with his performance in the time trials is very promising.
So his bits aren't 2 kg's:(

Shame about THAT!

Walker was 82kg when he first rocked up at the club iirc. So presumably the 87kg figure is from either his second or third year on the list. Whatever the case, to be 97kg already is excellent.

Wow, this kid is going to be a monster. Surprisingly, I think some Crows supporters underestimate how good this guy can be. If he can avoid Neil Craigs over-training growing injury list he could be anything. He was born to play as a forward. Not too many players have the natural ability and instict that this kid possesses.

As good as our youngsters look, for me, Walker and Dangerfield, have the ability to be superstars. The sort of players you can build premiership(s) around.

If we can keep our list together, we should win a flag in the next 5 years.

Totally agree

Thats a lot of weight to add to his frame. He has a body frame that will fill out well. The only concern with these things is how will it affect is mobility.

The body mass itself will help him enormously in one on one contests. Craig praised him for this pre-season the other day on 5AA so reading between the lines there, it shouldn't have affected him much.

I can't wait to see the Walker-Tippett twin towers ripping the opposition apart this year. Pick your poison ladies and gentleman! :D

With it now seeming likely that Taylor will get a game in the first NAB cup game, was wondering if i could gets some opinions on just how good his pre-season has been and how we expect him to perform. Going by some reports it seems he could be in for a similar season to Tippet had last year

From all reports it has been excellent, and one of the most impressive improvements around the club in terms of application.

One of the keys for him to improve his game at AFL level was develop his tank and whilst his natural fitness was still good, he's been able to improve it quite substantially. In the most recent 3km time trial he ran a time that many midfielders would be happy with.

His mobility has apparently also seen a steady improvement, which is great to hear when you consider that he's added about 5 or so kilos to his frame. From all reports he's also developing as a leader and though Craigy was harsh on him throughout 2009, the benefits are really starting to show.

Whilst a Tippett-of-2009 level of performance might be a bit unreasonable for a 19 year old, his main goal should be to establish himself in the team's best 22, stay there each week and be consistent with his output. If he does that, I see no reason why he can't notch up 30-40 goals, which would be an excellent return for someone in their second season of AFL.

I went to training a couple of weeks ago and he was one of the standouts for me, not much difference in pace and that not unexpected as he was bigger! shoulders an arms notably. What impressed me was a pick up in his intesity. his contested ball and pressure on the man was good. I'm sure these are both areas Craigy wanted improvement on. His use of hand were I felt a bit sloppy but then the rest of the boys were very sharp so made him look slower by hand. Other standouts were Rory Slone (who has lightning fast hands) and Tony Armstrong, I think we will see some of these boys this season.

Dont mind this one bit. Walker's always had natural talent and basically got through his junior days on his exceptional ability to kick goals. But I think he will turn out better after being dropped last season. Most people would have kept Walker in all season but Craig made him earn it and didnt listen to the fans, including myself, who said he had to be in the side. Now I think Walker wont take his spot for granted. Craig did the same to Danger last preseason, stating that his fitness wasnt up to AFL standard. Then you look at Vince a few years ago. Had a lazy attitute and didnt really commit to his footy. Wasnt until Roo and Goody sat him down and gave him a wake up call. Basically, you give all, or you'll be out of the system within 2 years.

Guys like walker are in the best environment to get the best out of themselves. Best facilities in the AFL, great culture and fantastic leaders.

I love this kid and think he'll be one of the best forwards in the comp in years to come.

I had monumental arguments with a bloke from uni last year about how good he is, the other bloke suggesting he was a 'flash in the pan' and only kicked those 5 goals agains the Hawks because the defenders let him run free, and his proof was he didn't take one contested mark that game.

He didn't seem to understand the concept of a good players ability to read the play, position himself and lead well or the fact that if he was just being allowed to run free after the first 2 or 3 goals Clarko would surely have made his defenders pay closer attention to him.

Hopefully Walker has a massive 2010 for you guys so I can continue to berate my mate from uni :thumbsu:

You're right, and your mate obviously never played as a forward before. If you're free, especially in AFL as a forward, it's because you worked harder or outsmarted your opponent.

You have guys like Riewoldt who rack up uncontested marks due to the hard work, where Walker just uses his footy smarts to lead to the right areas at the right time and read the ball flight better.

I don't mind it either. It seems that Craigy does an excellent job of being hard enough on players to get the most out of them, without crushing their confidence.

I wonder how walker feels about it though. You'd hope he realizes how much better a footballer he will be as a result.

I'd say Craigy has flat out told Walker that because of how good he could be and how talented he is, he's going to be marked harder than a normal player.

He might not like it but the way he's sounded in interviews, i think he recognises it's good for him - honestly, if he didn't like it he'd have cucked the s***s by now, not put on 15kg of muscle!

Bloody hell Walker....you know what shits me? Choosing which number to put on your guernsey. Got one with 32 on it, signed by Roo and Danger, but now I'll have to get one with 13 because of Lord Walker no doubt owning everything this year, then you've got Knights who is a god among men, then D-Mac guns it up, little ****ing champ, the great man Tippett, ffs Adelaide all these guns. It's like we're trying to win one of these premierships I've seen other teams winning.*

*This paragraph is fueled by slight drunkess, I'll admit to that. But still. Guns everywhere.

That's why I can't put a number on mine.

I have the same problem almost every year!

I generally don't have a clear favourite player and usually like going with a young gun. Speaking of Taylor I went with number 13 last year, which turned out to be a bit premature, and now there are too many up and coming players to choose from. I might just go with a veteran this year for something different.

Can't go wrong with the #32:thumbsu:
