A few question mark's still...but fairly sure this will be close the final product.

Just not sure on Pendlebury with his achilles, may change to Rocky/Ward

Also toying with the idea of Roughead - Steele...not sure on the better option yet

Noice looking team.

Haha that's fair enough

Midfield might be too stacked since it's Nank at F3, not an actually premo

Sandi + Witts in the ruck is damn scary, you're very brave haha
Think it's worth it with the rucks, got nank as backup and no other ruckman I like that will actually play lone ruckman, the only thing is with forward there isn't another premo I really like that I would lock in up forward, I like josh Kennedy (wce) but don't know if I would lock him in or not

Having a play around with my team. Still very sceptical about Caddy and Cyril. Thought about swapping Nank to Steele but might leave due to the whole ruck option. 100k left is nice. Also, think I'll be offloading Dusty at this stage due to having one too many tiges players.
Your thoughts are more than welcome.

As I'm firmly focused on winning my league and don't care for overall, I'm thinking of going back to a tactic that served me well last year.
It's basically a pure GnR approach while leaving about 500k in the bank for corrective trades and to give a leg up if some rookies don't make enough money quickly.

I take a hit early in the year with some lower scores and have to ride some luck in my league - last year I got very lucky!

I was initially against this as I saw a lot of good mid-pricers, plus rookies looked slim.
I'm starting to doubt the mid-pricers and see there are actually a few good rookies around.

Right now this is likely to be my team:

Docherty - Shaw - Laird - Adams - Hampton - Stewart / Otten & Guthrie
Danger - Pendles - Fyfe - Beams - JOM - Sheed - Taranto - SPP / Barrett & Miles & Pickett
Martin - Sandilands / Cameron
Dahlhaus - Macrae - Roughead - Florent - Simpkin - Eddy / Houston & Butler

with $615k in the bank

In the above team I've basically gone Treloar > Taranto & Steele > Simpkin

I can see an argument to not do that, but with league win only in mind I prefer to generate as much cash as possible so long as I finish top 8 in my league I should be having the best team in the end.

If you have a $100k left you could probably just upgrade Caddy.

Here's my full team reveal. A few days out from the start of the season I can honestly say barring some selection shocks on Thursday night this will be what I run with.

BACKLINE:
SC Backline.PNG

Felt like at the conclusion of the JLT the backline really came forward. Before that I had run with Shaw and Laird most of preseason, even at one stage dropped to a 1-0-7 structure but this is more reliable and comfortable.
UPGRADE TARGETS: Heath Shaw, Rory Laird and Alex Rance.

Sam Docherty: This was Shaw for all but the last 3 days, very few players back up their highest scoring player titles from the year before but with the combination of both Shaw's ownership and his opening round draws as well as Docherty's opening to the season I feel he is the right person for D1, no I don't think he'll average 108 again but I do think he'll be top 2 come the end of the year, safe bet for 22 games too. Looking for big early points from him.

Jake Lloyd: He's been on my watchlist all preseason, once I saw Heeney and McVeigh in doubt for the opening of the year this decision made full sense. Even though I feel he'll play predominantly in defense this year with brief stints in the middle as relief I feel he is the number 1 coming out of the back half for Sydney this year. His JLT form was amazing, his back end to last year proving that he is more than capable of providing consistent 95+ numbers. I'm backing him in for this years biggest improver, smokey for AA. Massive POD for me this year with less than 8% ownership.

Zach Tuohy: I few years back I made fun of a mate for picking Tuohy in his starting team yet here I am. His move from Carlton to a Geelong team vacant of Corey Enright screamed break out contender, then JLT came around and we saw what he's really capable of. If he ended up this year's top defender I would not be surprised at all. He's learnt his trade from Kade Simpson and played much of his Carlton career as an on looker in defense, now he's the main guy and has a license to play his way as an attacking option. JJ type scores from Tuohy should very well become the norm.

Caleb Marchbank: If you had asked me yesterday if I would even consider him in my team I would've laughed at you and honestly if there is another rookie named round 1 he's out and I'm banking the cash for upgrades in round 6 or so. Only justification I can have for this is there is literally no one else. Marchbank has great job security but a case could be made he hasn't got the durability to make that count. If he does indeed play most of the season and average around that 72-80 mark he could be a great slow burning rookie through till the end of the byes and might just be a straight upgrade to a fallen premium.

Curtley Hampton: Do I even need to explain this. Lock. Best 22, high ceiling and here's the good news, he's at a rookie price.

Andy Otten: Not even concerned about the job security issues, he looks in ripping shape and in great form, really only need him to play 8 weeks and he'll be a great pick, basement price has me licking my lips for such a seasoned campaigner.

Ed Vickers Willis: Hello hunny, or should I say Michael Firrito MII. Lock for best 22 imo, excellent disposer and decision maker, cash generation here we come.

Tom Stewart: Every year needs a slow burning rookie to warm the bench for the next guy, in step Tom Stewart.

MIDFIELD:
SC Mid.PNG
Had a simple strategy with the midfield this year, no rookies so pack it full of the best mids I can find. First year I'm not starting either Ablett or Pendlebury so I feel nervous. Luke Shuey spent much of the preseason in there too and if I feel uncomfortable with any of these selections or wanting to take a bit more of a risk he'll slot straight back in there. Not going with the commonly selected Beams, O'Meara and Swallow as I just don't think they'll become keepers. Yes they might give good solid points but I can't justify the cash spend on the extra trades it'd take on the rest of my team being upgraded.
UPGRADE TARGETS: Scott Pendlebury, Luke Shuey

Patrick Dangerfield: Set and forget captain choice every week, price tag doesn't scare me even though like Docherty I don't think he'll back the average up he'll definitely be top 2.

Dan Hannebery: For some ridiculous reason he's at less than 12% of ownership??????? Grouse, if it was possible for him to break out anymore this is the year, 120+ this year.

Joel Selwood: Alright at least I can reason with Hannebery's ownership being down but Selwood, come on guys, less than 7%. 8 out of the last 9 years over 110. Bank this supercoach legend to go again.

Patrick Cripps: Interrupted preseason scares me a little but he had one last year too and look what happened. Originally was looking at him as an upgrade target giving his back end to last year but if he goes early I don't want to miss out, could potentially see him rest forward more and kick more goals and that means more points. If it's not this year he breaks out to super premium it's pretty damn close.

Nat Fyfe: If over 60% of people selecting him didn't say enough already.

Tom Mitchell: Does this kid even have a ceiling at Hawthorn? I don't think so, we could see every record under the sun smashed this year from him. Amazingly he's only in 11% of teams. Scrumptious.

Sam Powell Pepper: Honestly the only midfield rookie, would be astonished if he wasn't in the top 3 come the end of the year for rising star or even Port's BnF to be perfectly honest. Kids a freak.

Jake Barrett: Still needs to be upgraded but he has enormous scoring potential in a poor team. Lock if he's selected.

Harrison Wigg: Looks to have fairly strong job security till the rest of the Adelaide midfield returns. Looking for 6-8 games out of him, just till Myers returns hopefully.

Jarrod Pickett: Carlton need a small forward, boom here's the guy. Paply type scores from him

Brandan Parfitt: Look at Pickett, identical. Nervous about the midfield bench.

RUCKMAN:
SC Rucks.PNG
I'm going to make this simple. No one has ever won supercoach with a mid price madness ruckline. Ever. Simple as that. This has been my ruck line for the entirety of preseason since supercoach opened. Only out of curiosity of structures has it changed.
UPGRADE TARGETS: (only if needed) Todd Goldstein:

Max Gawn: If I get tired of Danger as captain why not have Gawn as a back up? I understand somewhat why people are shying away from him given the price tag and Jake Spencer coming in to relieve a little but I made a post a while back regarding Gawn and that he only needs to break even on his hit outs to advantage from last season to become supercoach relevant without even touching the ball. If he's resting more he's around the ground more taking marks and kicking goals which will actually be better for his score than being in the ruck. Absolute no brainer for me personally but I can at least understand why people aren't picking him.

Aaron Sandilands: He's just too damn cheap. Zac Clarke is injured at the moment and Jonathon Griffin has the footballing capabilities of a carrot, so yet again, it falls back on the big man Sandilands. Even if he averages 85-95 he's still going to generate enough cash to become a great stepping stone to Goldstein and if I'm being honest that's what I'm expecting him to be but if he turns up and plays all year and averages 105+ booyaaaa. He's just too cheap to ignore, also his chemistry with the returning Nat Fyfe is something that can't be ignored.

FORWARDS:
SC Forwards.PNG
Everyone's biggest headache this year honestly. Nick Riewoldt, Lance Franklin, Jack Macrae, Toby Greene, Josh Caddy, Jack Billings, Toby Nankervis, Isaac Heeney, Touk Miller, Chad Wingard, Koby Stevens and Jack Steele all had a run in there at some point. Macrae and Riewoldt the most. Probably changed my forward line more than a few times a day. Ended up going with a POD and risky forward group this year. Jack Bowes spent the entirety of the summer in my team but unfortunately didn't produce the numbers I thought he was capable of.
UPGRADE TARGETS: Jack Macrae, Toby Greene

Luke Dahlhaus: The loss of all our premium favourite forwards has now passed the baton to the Doll himself. The dogs play with such an even game so if he backed up from last year I wouldn't be disappointed, I just feel he was injured last year so he is bound to improve, also with Wallis out for a majority the first half of the year, Bont needs a clearance buddy and he's the guy for me.

Tom Lynch: This is probably the riskiest pick in my team, yes he's a gun BUT, he's a key forward and historically they don't score that great consistently. I do think however he's an exception, like Buddy and Riewoldt, he plays more up the ground gaining possessions, Gold Coast will improve this year and with more forward options this year it allows him to play a big more free, best case scenario he kicks 80+ and averages 98+ but in a worst case he backs up from last year, ends top 10 forwards and becomes a very serviceable F6 option.

Shaun Higgins: Yeah alright judge me all you want but let me explain. North had a mass exodus of points last year, not just points but midfield minutes. Yes guys like Ryan Clarke will step in but they can't take the majority of the burden. The year before last Higgins was fit and firing in a good team, averaged 95 and everyone couldn't really believe it. This year I think he's in a better position to explode again. He's had a full preseason and he's the main guy. Pressure yes, but we saw in preseason that he's taking it with both hands. Had large chunks of time on ground and scored incredibly well, 117 and 123 then 64 from a half of footy. In my eyes those numbers can't be ignored, he's been locked into my side for weeks now. We're really lacking guys who are going to move into the midfield, note why everyone is jumping on Steele. Just a personal gut feel and with the rest of my team is set up I feel I can take this risk because I'm really not taking many others. Personal preference. There are much better options for security and if you have the cash do go for them but for me and my team this is the best fit.

Jarryd Roughead: 6 years of the last 7 over 95, and he's the captain now? The exciting thing for us really is they recruited another key forward which means he will play more in the midfield.

Tim Taranto: Probably sound like a broken record same as everyone else but with the important players that have gone down and his preseason form I've locked him in for great cash generation.

Brett Eddy: Was literally recruited to play every week, what more can you possibly want from a 102k rookie.

Dan Houstan: Alright as a Port fan this selection even scares me. He was only moved back this off season, he's excelled so far and I expect him to be named round 1 but whether he can keep his spot is a bit unknown, Broadbent (didn't play all JLT) and Pittard (return round 3) will return in the early weeks of the season potentially pushing him out. If he plays he will score great because of his excellent foot skills and intercept marking.

Dan Butler: Honestly had no idea who he was until he scored well in JLT 1 but here he is in my starting team. Of what I do know he'll play that small forward role that Richmond so desperately need, so he could have substantial job security

7k remaining. I'm really happy with this. 14 keepers + Sandilands. Only 4 mid pricers too which I think is good. Less risk involved with trading then. Only change I can see within the next few days is Marchbank to a rookie and some rookie adjustments with the cash, which I doubt will happen.
Supercoach Final Team.PNG

Good luck everyone this year!

Not too sure on Doherty, thinking I need to get rid of roughead and get franklin in somehow too,

What do you think?

I shit you not, this is the FIRST team I've seen with M.Boyd, despite his splendid 2016. I admire your guts.

I bet you shop in Vinnies IRL the way you hold money back on your rucks.
That makes so much sense, considering Gawn will be rucking with spencer, hickey with longer, Martin with Archie, the only one I'm game on is grundy but I don't know if he will be that good this year or not, if I take a risk with sandi, witts and nank I am guaranteed to have 2 rucks every week including byes, think about that then come back with something intelligent
