SOS was the better full back and Fletcher hasnt even retired yet so I dont get the point of your post.

Best finals series by a defender. Ever.

Ablett kicked 122 goals that season with Carey also in his prime. Throw in Dunstall and Lockett (+ Modra) and he usually had their measure. No loose man roles back then either.

Now compare that forward list to Fev, Lloyd, Riewoldt and Buddy. Scarlett was a great player but SOS has him completely covered.

Scarlett was EASILY the most dirty full back I've seen amongst the top echelon guys. He was the master of driving his knee into his opponent's back or smashing his forearm into the back of their head while punching the ball away with the other hand. He was a champion, but also a dirty mongrel who knew how to bend the rules. The AFL had to bring in the "slam tackle" rule because of the shit that him and Milburn used to pull on a weekly basis.

I said he may not have been the best, but you cant say hes a left field selection and 'doesnt deserve it'.
People seem to want him to come out and publicly give the award to someone else.

He also played on those guys for a fair bit longer than Fletcher, and largely with more success.
