announced on sen that he and street have bbe ndelisted. so in other words forced to ritire. im shattered. he is a player who wanted to prove that he could play on next year and that club has denied him that oppertunitly. very pissed off.

Surely they will give him the option of retirement. Couldn't imagine the club just publically shoving him out the door.

apparently thats the case. surely they asked him to retire but he must have refused. i hope this doesn't ruin any ties between him and the club. he is a legend of the club and it would be a shame if thats the case.

I hope Westy just retires though. Won't be too much use to any club trying to move forward. Has slown down considerably in the past 2 seasons, and i dont think any club will pick him up.
I'm sure most people would love to see him as a one club player.

Don't troll crap.
He's 34 years old and his knee is shot. Its a shame he wouldnt retire of his own accord and forced the club to make the decision for him.
Still, if he thinks he can still play on, that's his call and after 324 games, it is only his call to make...not the club. What would be the cost of keeping him on anyway - even with a shot knee, he's better than a fair few players on the Dogs list (hello Farren Ray as an example) and that keeping him on the veterans list wouldn't cost the club diddly squat.
I hope that another club (like a Melbourne..who NEED experienced footballers around with all their kids about the place) takes him up. Footscray have done the wrong thing by a club champion - much like it did with Doug Hawkins (and probably Gary Dempsey too)
Thats a typical Rocket coaching move there. Harsh, maybe even cruel...but fair.
