Little disappointed as I thought he had another year in him but the club knows better than me and if he refused to retire when told they wouldn't be going forward than what else can the club do. Fantastic career and a much loved champion of the club, good luck in the future.

I support this decision, even though think great things of Westy. It would have been a travesty to have him out there next year at the expense of a Harbrow or Callan, for instance.

Maybe Rocket has learnt his lesson with the Darcy of 2007...

He's 34 years old and his knee is shot. Its a shame he wouldnt retire of his own accord and forced the club to make the decision for him.

First (and probably last) time I've agreed with you. At 34, and with injury concerns, it would be selfish to go on...as good as he has been it's time to go.

Not everyone get's the fairytale ending.

definately the correct decision, will free up the salary cap and may allow the doggies to make a serious play for Daniel Kerr.

Congratulations on a wonderful career Westy on of the bulldogs favourite sons. Gutted by the decision but understand why it had to be made. There is little room for sentiment in the game anymore.

Shattered that it has happened this way!! Hopefully Scotty will do a massive sendoff at the Dogs first home game next year (which isnt anywhere near what he deserves).....

You're an absolute champion Westy!!! :(

Well done on a wonderful career Scott West.

Strange timing, might have though the Bulldogs would allow Cooney to take centre stage for a day or two at least and allow the positivity from that win to run through the club before this came out.

Sounds like a piss poor way to treat one of the very best players that club has seen.

Would have thought youd let him go out on his terms.

Dylan Howard mentioned on 7 news a few minutes ago. Virtually all the players knew it was going to happen, before he did (it seems...if you listen to Aker)

Dylan loved saying "sacked".He said Scott West was "sacked" and Peter Street was "sacked".Most other footy people would use the term delisted, but not Dodgey Dylan.

Gutted to be honest. West was one of my favourite players growing up and still is one of my favourites. I will miss him a great deal, not running around in the Red, White & Blue for at least one more year.

I just hope it was a mutual agreement and they didn't just show him the door after all he has done.

Agreed, sad day.

im sorry but this is a DISGRACE!
for starters i think the bloke has earnt the right to get a opportunity to go one more year.
His knee isnt a deteriorating issue, he has a letter from a doctor saying he just needs a bit of rest and he can come back preseason and wont have any lingering issues. I think that is good enough to have another crack. If his knee was deteriorating then thats a different story. If his knee breaks down you bring up a rookie listed player, not hard.
Also Brian Taylor has heard Scott West is stunned by the decision from the club.

This is the biggest disgrace. I cannot believe that the Western Bulldogs have done this, i am guttered.
Western Bulldogs Footy Club you should be ***ing ashamed.

Look guys, I am not looking for trouble.

I just feel it was indeed in the bulldogs interests to let him go, he was virtually useless and would have been a liability next year due to probably more injury.

It was for the best for both parties.

Oh, the irony. I am so sure that the majority of posters suggesting that this is poor form by the dogs would be the very same people who would've stirred the pot next year if West struggled by saying "typical old Bulldogs, not hard enough to make the tough decisions". Leave the list management to the professionals (medical staff included) and lets reflect on the contribution by one of the greatest dogs of all time. Well done Scott West, and tough as it is, I'm a little bit proud of my club to have made the right call, not the easy call.
