So, after a lifetime of supporting the Pies and after seeing us go down on the big stage last Saturday, I've decided to scrounge together some coin before schooling resumes next year and get a membership to show my support.

I have a couple of questions about it, and I am hoping someone on here can help? The answers don't appear evident on the CFC Membership site and I'm currently in Mexico on Student Exchange, so I can't really waltz down to the Westpac centre and ask a few Q's!

1) How important is the reserved seating? The idea appeals to me a lot. A home game reserved seat concession membership is $305 as opposed to a home game concession Social Club Membership of $320. I prefer having the option of a ballot for the GF as opposed to none, so the Social Club option suits me more.

However, it looks as though Social Club members just sit in GA right? This means I could be sitting up in Level 3 row Z 99 technically doesn't it? Having a Social Club membership doesn't mean decent seats? As long as I get good to okay seats, I don't care about having a reserved one.

Last year I rocked up to a number of games and bought tickets on the door, and got terrible seats as a consequence. I'm just hoping that forking out for a Social Club membership doesn't mean i'll be sitting in the exact same seats.

2) Does being a member guarantee you the chance of getting a ticket to the big games, like the ANZAC match? Or perhaps there a priority for members? Do members just get in line like the rest.

*I'm an absolute n00b I know.

Any help you could send my way would be really appreciated.

Looking forward to cheering on as a member in 2012!

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

Hey mate,

I commend you for you wanting to become a member after a GF loss. Great work :thumbsu:

I think best value membership is AFL with club support which i currently have. Its gives you reserved seating to home & away games including block busters plus access to the finals except for grand final. You are still required to book and pay a booking fee if you want a reserved seat.

I pay about $40 per month for it as i am still a silver member.
Might be cheaper for you if you are eligible for student concession

Here is the link to it

Good luck

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

Social club is just general admin seating, much like rocking up on the day and buying a ticket. If you want a reserved seat, and a chance in the ballot, your only option is really Captains membership, which will be for home games only. Legends membership guarantees a ticket, but is at capacity and you need to go on a wait list to get in.

I'm an AFL Member with social club add on - that way, I can sit on any level in the AFL Members reserve, but also have a chance in the ballot for a grand final ticket. First year of AFL Membership is pricey though cause of the joining fee.

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

Hey mate, the reserved seat is EASILY worth it IMO if you have the coin-age.

I've just renewed with the General Admin seating membership as I find while the reserved seating is great, I always seem to end up going with people who aren't members (from the country, random friends), and felt the reserved seat is a waste when I'm sitting in GA anyhow. Just something to think about!!!

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

Am i the only one that thinks collingwood's membership will need to capped at some point? I know it sounds strange but 72,000 is a lot and that is likely to grow after this disspointing, albeit successful year overall...It could get to a point where members just won't be able to go to game because other members have gotten in first..

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

Well me and my mum have afl club support packages, mine cost me about 400 to set up this year and mums costed about 500 from memory because of the initial join-up fee. Not 100% sure, but as previously mentioned you book seats each week, or you can do it once a month for the following 4 weeks of games if that makes sense? so its 6 bucks per seat booked per game.

That's about all the info i can give, not sure what other memberships offer.

The good thing about AFL membership is the access to the AFL section and if you become a full member (which takes a while unfortunately) it's fairly easy to get a GF seat if your team is playing, and it's still quite possible to get a GF seat if they aren't playing..

Yep, I too am an AFL silver member. Its very similar to being an MCC member, but you have to pay for your reserved seating and your finals tickets.
If you like to stand then for most games you can just walk up and scan your card at the gate and just stand at the game. But not at blockbuster games, like ANZAC day, v Carlton, v Geelong, and finals. etc

Your also aloud 4 guest passes ($35.00 each I think) for MCG games, but at etihad stadium, no guest passes as there is only 3000 AFL member seats. (thay usually sell out in 15 mins for collingwood games)

U prob have to be a silver member for 6-8 years before becoming a full member, and you have access to grand final ticket when this occurs.

It is worth it, I love it. And you can also just rock up to other games with mates that go for other teams and sit/stand there and drink.

WELL WORTH IT :)

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

I am gonna get AFL membership this year, clearly best membership package you can get, does anyone know how long the wait is to get full membership?

I have been silver for 5 years and i think i am like 7000 on the wait list??

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

About 6-8 yeahs as ferga said sounds about right to me, because this was my first year i won't know until i renew my m'ship what number i am on the waiting list..i've heard even up to 10 years wait can be expected, but if your in it for the FOOTY and not much else, the AFL membership seems to be better MCC...Plus with the upgrade to the AFL stand soon will make it even better

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

I have a reserved seat because I have kids and they can't sit for an hour before the game even starts. If you are ok with top deck you don't need a reserved seat you just need to get there early for the big games and you may have to pre purchse the odd reserved seat - eg ANZAC Day. either way, unless you shell out for Legends membership you are unlikley to get a GF ticket.

My brother in law got his membership upgraded last year, after 8 years of waiting, and my Mum has been a silver member for 6 years and is in the last 2000 now.

It's about 8-10 years, depending on how greedy the AFL get each year in their grab for cash when they promote silver members to full members.

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

Signed up as an AFL member yesterday and I was wondering if I can get the membership package Collingwood give to its members, like the hat, scarf and top.

Yep as long as you have signed up as an AFL member with Collingwood support (ticked the little box upon sign up).

i purchased them last year as an AFL member.

back to the waiting list topic: i am entering my thrid year as an AFL Member and i am currently 16,942 on the list to upgrade. so looks like at least 7 or 8 years before im ready to become a full member.

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

I asked them about the waiting list before I signed up and the woman said around 9-10 years from this year. Its not as bad as I thought it would be.

Yeah I think the drop off was under 2000 this year, more like 1300 from memory. So that could stretch the waiting time.

I'm AFL Silver and really enjoyed it. Great seat for my 6-game package (Lv2), though I am Lv2A for 2012 I'm still happy.

What I found though is that I really wanted more reserved seats for the Collingwood matches as I missed out on decent seats a few times. SO I went with the Captains upgrade and the Level 2 waiting list. The Level 2 waiting list is now only accepting Legends memberships however (which is also a waiting list). So the boost in Club members has made it tougher to secure a great seat.

Sorry, can you clarify this? I'm a AFL Full Member with Collingwood Club Support and every year I get a key chain, key ring and some crappy stickers. How exactly do I go about getting this Collingwood membership package? Through the Westpac centre or online?

Yeah so as a paying member (ie part of your AFL membership is paid to Collingwood), you are eligible to pay for the members merchandise pack from the club.

So free membership goodies have been watered down too a few trinkets. The more expensive items have been bundled together as a bundle for members to additionally purchase if they so choose. The value of the bundle is said to be more than the asking price however the quality of the items is pretty poor.

Re: New 2012 Membership Q

So when i buy my pies membership, ill be able to go to every game at the MCG Without having to buy a ticket?

The memberships will get you through the gate of every home match (dependent on capacity). The higher level memberships from Collingwood can include:
A reserved seat
Home and Away matches in Melbourne
Access to the social club bar
Grand final ticket

The memberships give you a card that you use to scan into the MCG instead of a ticket. If you don't have a reserved seat membership and want a reserved seat for a specific match you will have to have a ticket to scan in.
