Scandal The 2016 finals series was rigged

I don’t know why so many Bulldogs supporters are in denial, this was from an interview with Newbold in February of 2016:

NEWLY appointed AFL commissioner Andrew Newbold has revealed his desire to see the Western Bulldogs win their second premiership as part of his equalisation vision.

Newbold revealed he made contact with Western Bulldogs president Peter Gordon on Wednesday.

“I left a message for Peter Gordon yesterday saying I’d love to see the Bulldogs win their second flag while I’m on the commission,” Newbold told SEN.

Time for a Royal Commission?

I remember desperately wanting the Dogs to win but then being utterly dismayed as the game unfolded. The umpiring was diabolical and one-sided.

That isn’t evidence of an AFL House conspiracy though.

Hahahahaha

I've respected you as a poster but quoting The Australian is ridiculous. The AFL never stated the Bulldogs received "at least 4 goals the Bulldogs got because of free kicks"

Jake Niall reporting for Fox Footy:

If you're going to reference an official statement, make sure it's from informative journalism and not an opinion piece from a newspaper widely disparaged for it's Murdoch-influenced drivel.
So it was 8 goals?

I reckon you could mount a good case that without the week off before finals start, bulldogs dont beat the eagles in that elimination final. bulldogs had a number of players who came back from injury for the elimination final and probably wouldnt have played without the extra week to get right.
Really great foresight by the AFL to arrange the pre-final bye in the schedule that year.

They obviously knew in advance that the Bulldogs were going to have those injury concerns and they set it up just so they could get up for it.

I just can't understand why they gave them the shortest break for all the finals sides.

unlike the gf umpiring, i wasnt suggesting a conspiracy. sometimes things just go your way, it was the first time they had the pre-finals bye right? (and yes, we all remember why it was bought in and had nothing to do with the dogs)

People complaining that umpires are rigging games should seriously go and try umpire a match or two at high level. That s*** is hard.

How dare you make sense on BigFooty.

I get it from all aspects. People feel things are rigged. Others say come off it. Truth is, it may feel rigged, it may feel like things are going one way. They probably are. But its an imperfect world. Umpiring is done by humans, and humans, for the most part, are biased, incompetent, guessing their way through things. They have their own perspective in viewing something and very few of us readily accept multiple perspectives (hence, threads like these with people arguing their view is the right one).

Mistakes happen. The rules of our game are shit. People are biased, whether they'd admit or not. It can come subconsciously. Why do I want a particular team to beat another team, even though I really don't give a shit about either team? It's just natural bias from my own personal experience. Umpires are just as affected by that, whether they admit it or not. And sometimes, sometimes, they also overcompensate if they do recognise it.

My youngest is 9 and has 12 year olds umpire his games. I've heard adults yell at a CHILD about their umpiring. I coach myself and I have to hold myself back sometimes, because decisions seem so completely ridiculous, but it's just how that umpire/referee viewed it from a completely different angle to me with other shit they have to keep an eye on.

Shit ain't perfect, teams have been and will continue to be robbed, but that's part of being human. Nothing is perfect. Go do your job with thousands of people screaming shit at you and almost 40 blokes running everywhere around you while you're trying to keep an eye on everything you can and stuff happens in the blink of an eye, see if you don't make a mistake.

Look - my sister's next door neighbours brother used to work with lady who knew another lady who had a cousin with a daughter who went to school with Luke Beveridge's niece! Apparently this niece was overheard in the library stating that uncle Luke was quietly confident that his team was 'a very good chance' of upsetting a few other teams during the forthcoming final series.

So there you have it! Undeniable, irrefutable, hard evidence that the Bulldogs 2016 finals campaign and their Premiership was totally rigged..!!!
Accordingly, can someone call one of the AFL Paparazzi - suggest either that famous ambulance chasing, broomstick flying, C. Wilson, or the hide-behind-tree-with-camera, self fornicating bozo D.Barrett with this new damming revelation...!

This post probably sounded better in your head? You don’t think it’s at least a little suspicious that in May 2016 you have an AFL Commissioner come out and say he’d love for the Bulldogs to win another Grand Final while he has the chair? He wants to shows that his equalisation measures have worked. Next minute, Bulldogs win the 2016 GF and at one stage the Dogs were paid 17 to Sydney’s 1 free kick. No nothing to see here…

No and no.
While you and/or anyone else are entitled your 'suspicions', given the timing of Newbold's statement/wish and the unlikely outcome of it - Newbold himself has since qualified this and stands by what he said in the same light as is now hoping the Saints can win their 2nd flag...

While I'm happy to concede the umpiring in the 2016 GF was 'very ordinary', as it was during our defeat to the Dogs a few weeks earlier, this AFL conspiracy theory of the Dogs ultimate success is, respectfully, up there with man never landing on the moon..!

Someone landed on the moon?

Why can’t there be a 17 - 1 free kick count ?

By the way early on the last quarter it was 17-4. Why can’t there be that lopsided a free kick count as well.

The thing that pissed me off the most was the media never even acknowledged the umpiring. I watched all the football shows after that match and no one mentioned the lopsided umpiring, no one mentioned the umpiring at all.

If the umpiring was so bad that even the AFL rang the Swans to apologise why didn't the media cover it at all?
I hate Sydney as much as the next Hawthorn guy. But I am in complete agreement in that the Doggies got a gifted run in that Grand Final. They got a gifted run in every finals game actually. Even down to the last play in the GWS prelim. Scully should have got a 50m after the doggies player ran through the protected area as he was about to kick. Got so close from memory that Scully had to change his line as he kicked.

History will only ever remember them as a premier though and will forget the umpiring debacle that contributed to it.

I just don’t think the risk reward ratio is there for the AFL to intentionally rig games.

The only one I’m confident of is the Fitzroy vs I think Adelaide where it was obvious the result was predetermined.

No doubt the dogs got a huge leg up in the 2016 premiership but more good luck than anything untoward imo.

Why did Sydney get the one ..must have been completely unjustified.
