Two players are presently top 10 in the league for disposals, contested possessions, clearances, centre clearances, tackles, and AFL ranking points.

Rockliff and Oliver. Pretty amazing for a 17 game 19 year old. He also averages the lowest TOG along with Adams and Shiel for the top 50 players.

Dangerfield and Selwood can join these two with good games today.

Will take some time for the Oliver hype to transfer from a good kid to being rated in the top mids in the comp. Doing everything right though.

Rocky on the other hand will find it hard to shake his tag as an undamaging cheap possesion winner and a bit of an 'ahole'. He built towards an increadible season in 2014 when it was impossible not to include him in the AA team. From memory he was the top possession winner and top tackler? Unfortunately injuries in 2015 and 2016 combined with trying to captain a horrible side saw him lose the plot a bit on and off the field towards the end of 2016.

Perception is a hard thing to change and I fear for Rocky it will be almost impossible to achieve the recognition he recieved in 2014 again. However, and the same applies for young Oliver, if you put up a season that is statistically superior to everyone else it is hard to ignore.

FF Rioli, Franklin, Lynch

R Goldstein, Dangerfield, Dahlhaus

If this team is purely from player ratings where is Rockliff ?

What ratings are you using ?

Dahlhaus was good this round, but has been ordinary in others.

Burgoyne ? Really ?

Can't say I was expecting young Oliver to have such a massive start. But he has come out guns blazing. Certainly one of the best young midfielders in the competition.

These ratings are calculated over the past 40 games. In other words, they are completely useless here.

http://www.afl.com.au/stats/player-ratings/ratings-explained

"A player's rating is determined by aggregating his points tally based on a rolling window of the previous two seasons. For example, after round six of the 2014 season, a player's rating will be based on matches from round seven of the 2012 season onwards. However, only a player's most recent 40 matches are used in the calculation of his rating. This creates a buffer for players missing matches through injury, suspension, omission or by not being involved in finals. A player's most recent 30 matches are given greater weight in determining his rating. Matches 31 through 40 are progressively reduced in weighting, from 100 per cent down to five per cent for the earliest game in the window."

They're rolling rankings and don't treat 2017 in isolation, which is what's required for a 2017 AA team.
:'(
They are irrelevant. Anything that includes one iota of last season or preseason this year is totally worthless in this thread.

Seen Montagna in a cpl of teams...WTF o_O.
Shaw ?...umm no.

At least rucks are easy so far. Martin or Grundy, Grundy or Martin. Either is a good selection...with Mumford and Sandi next level behind them and might challenge.

Midfield i'd start with Sloane, Danger, Murphy, Martin, Pendlebury and probably Ollie Wines  on the field at this moment, then choose a few from guys like Adams, NJones, Tommy, Selwood, Bont, Cotchin, Kelly, Shuey to make up about 9 mids or thereabout. Oliver and Ebert also guys to watch...excellent starts and would not be out of place right now as well. Gaff and Treloars disposal letting them down for mine, but might improve.
JPK does this like clockwork...starts well but not on fire, then builds. A top 20 mid already but thats not quite AA standard. I'd put money on him killing it by maybe rnd 8-9.

Raffle the backs at this early stage. Who knows. Probably Docherty and Yeo HBF. Laird and Lloyd shown serious rebound and have had a lot of ball at 30Disp a game...selectors love rebound soboth possible. McGovern likely. Why the rush for people to put Rance in ? Gets in coz u cant think of any other FB ? Hasnt been THAT good. Borderline.
Greene, JJK Betts, Cameron, Menzel a smokey started well.
I still cant figure out how Riewoldt missed out last year, but i'd already name him as a bench utility and cover alongside 3 midfield rotation. Maybe they figure he's won enough AA's. Walker starting to look good but not AA yet. Big game from Hawkins today and he's a possible as well.

Adams has been Collingwoods best player this season.

5 serious chances in Howe, Adams, Treloar, Pendlebury and Grundy and all 5 have shown they are consistant footballers in there positions. Yet we will probably miss the 8 again.

Dylan Roberton a chance? Averaging great numbers across half back, has the height to be considered for a 3rd tall position?

Round 4.

B: Rory Laird - Daniel Talia - Phil Davis

HB: Elliot Yeo - Alex Rance - Jason Johannisen

C: Zach Merrett - Clayton Oliver - Marc Murphy

HF: Dustin Martin - Josh Kennedy - Toby Greene

F: Eddie Betts - Tom Hawkins - Jeremy Cameron

R: Brodie Grundy - Rory Sloane - Patrick Dangerfield

Int: Daniel Menzel - Luke Shuey - Joel Selwood - Trent Cotchin

Key defenders are hard to pick this year.
Lots of midfielders averaging big numbers, went with impact over stats.
Walker, Adams, Fyfe and Roberton unlucky.
By club. Geelong: 4, Adelaide: 4, Richmond: 3, GWS: 3, West Coast 3, Bulldogs: 1, Melbourne: 1, Essendon: 1, Collingwood: 1, Carlton: 1

If that is Tom McDonald, that goes to show you how flawed the afl rankings are. Ditto Rioli, Montagna, Burgoyne & Shaw
