We’re not offering Tomlinson $1M/season. He’s not a star. We’re offering him 400k (30k above avg wage). He’s an upgrade on most of what we have (or had) on the list.

Tomlinson is an elite two-way runner, elite endurance, avg to above avg skills, above avg to elite marking. He’s part of the cake, not icing, not decoration.

Yesterday had 17 dis @ 76% (with no one leading at him), with 6 marks. Played better on the big stage than Kelly and Whitfield.

Langdon is similar but you’re paying an additional 100k because you’re getting a slightly better upgrade on Tomlinson.

2018 we were lucky with injuries. 2019 has proven that what is below our best 22 players isn’t a high enough standard. We can spend $1.2M on a Whitfield type, but if he gets injured we’re f’ed. We need to improve the quality of players 25-42.

We should know more about Frosty in the next week. For me, if he hasn’t signed by Friday, I think he’s gone. Still waiting for this rumour about Wednesday to come and go.

Slightly above average wage for a below average footballer. He's not a genuine winger, forward or defender. He's tallish, not tall. He moves okay for a tall(ish) player, but he's not quick. His skills certainly didn't look average or above average - when I've watched him play, he's slow to release the ball and when he does its either a long punt to a contest, a short sideways or backwards chip or a handball. He's a utility player who - if playing in the match day 22 - we'll be looking for an upgrade on if we want to be a good side. He's a depth player.

If we pick up Tomlinson and lose Frost, we are in a worse position. We could keep Frost with a bit more cash and offer Sam Gray a rookie spot and I don't reckon it'd be that much of a difference to the side/list.

Don't mind Tomlinson on an average deal, didn't really go any worse than the $$$ men for GWS yesterday.

Would like to keep Frost too. Ideally with May and Lever back in defence next year he'll be less of a liability/exposed. I think he was solid this year and is reliable(ish) depth at worst.

Yep, lacks agility and slow to get foot to ball.

If we lose Frost for Tomlinson then it’s definitely a backward step.

If salary is an issue then we’d be better off filling a spot on the list with a kid from the draft and using the money saved to keep Frost.

With the exception of Frost, JKH & Stretch, we haven't heard much about players potentially leaving MFC. FWIW, I would entertain these for the right return:

- AVB: If he is actually fixed and ready to go again, I'm happy for us to explore if Sydney and/or GC are still interested and what they're willing to pay. I really like him, but a fresh start might be mutually beneficial.
- OMac: If we keep Frosty, then he could be traded - if not, we need to keep him. I'd take anything before Pick 60 for him, including a player swap. As maligned as he is on this board, he's still a 23yo key defender with 74 games to his name.
- Weid: If we can get another key forward from elsewhere, I'm happy to entertain a pick in the top 35 or a decent player swap.
- Brayhsaw: Would trade for a 1st round pick. Helps us retain Trac who wants midfield minutes.
- Sprago: Would trade for anything before Pick 60 or a player swap. Just don't think he's going to make it with us, he's a short-kicking little man luxury we can't afford, but he has some class and could be good at a top team (e.g. Daniels comparison at GWS).
- Preuss: Won't happen, but there are Clubs (e.g. Essendon) who need a ruckman and would potentially pay overs.

Fairly obvious reason why there hasn't been a lot of sound about our players leaving for other clubs.

If we finish the trade period with 2 wingers and defensive runners (Langdon & Tomlinson), a goal kicker (Elliott or some like Sokol (WA) mature age ) and 2 outside players ( pick 2/3 and one other pick or we trade down) , then this would be a successful period

Perfectly put. An upgrade on T.Smith, Maynard, Garlett, JKH & Stretch

^^ That. Just want to add to the chorus that Jenkins is not required. Inflated goal numbers by his ridiculous number of Joe-the-gooses but isn't a great mark for his size, lead or set shot.
Did read he'd leave for much less than he's on, but at his age and exposed form even at a heavy discount I'd steer clear. Oscar would be a better investment as an emergency forward option.

Hes so shit he would have still won our goal kicking in 1/2 a season. Already said hes willing to take a big pay cut to move. Itd depend on where we think Weid is at if hes still a year away from bulking up and if Pruess can actually build a tank big enough to move 5m. Cant rely on TMac Weid and Petty if the last 2 arent ready. Id take Jenkins on a 1 year deal with a few triggers for a second but thats about it

He’s s**t and he’s on more than $500k a year. If we got him for a nothing pick and he’s prepared to play for $200k a year then I might be interested

Not even then. Would rather throw games into Wiedeman and Petty (particularly Weideman - needs to show something next year) than give Jenkins game time.

We were also putrid this season. A 30 year old key forward who at his best a couple of years ago was flakey as 2nd/3rd tall won't offer much more than our existing options. He's never been a workhorse so even as cover/an example for the young blokes wouldn't be particularly useful.

We were a horrendously slow side last year and we're linked with Tomlinson, Elliott and Langdon while there seems a reasonable chance we'll lose Frost. Jenkins is one of the last blokes we should be looking at. Given we seem to play three tall forwards a fair bit, Tomlinson probably isn't required either. We should have plenty of marking targets out there (whether they provide an option or not is another question). Would be much happier if we were linked to some players with pace and/or who can kick given they're our two biggest deficiencies.

This was kind of my thinking too, we need someone who can actually kick goals in the team. Apparently he is going cheap in terms of picks and dollars. Interesting to read other's opinions and it looks like the club isn't interested anyway.

Doesn't necessarily translate to goals for us though. As bad as the Crows were this year, we were still much worse. He would've been lucky to kick 10 this year for us the way we entered the 50 and the way he goes about getting his goals. Just my opinion though. I just feel we actually need small, quick Richmond types who lock the ball inside 50.

Do people realise we're getting Tomlinson for free? And presumably just a normal salary with maybe the length of deal the key factor. I'm gonna guess 4 years - we love our four year deals. If Josh Wagner can hang around for five seasons, then I think Tomlinson can manage that pretty comfortably.

Wagner would be on half the average AFL salary, if he's lucky. Happy to take Tomlinson on that, but he'll likely be on more than the average. Wonder why we're having salary cap trouble?
