Draft Day is here

Unlike last year when the excitement of adding No.1 pick Harley Reid to our list was palpable (and also near certain), this draft is uncertain and viewed with equal parts excitement and trepidation

We go into the first night with pick 12, which is expected to slide to 15 after academy and Father Son selections and a lot of guesswork on who we’ll take. Or even if we actually use that pick with rumours circulating that we might trade up or back

Night two we have pick 26 (subject to change) along with a gaggle of late picks. Again, there’s the possibility of trading into the draft with another pick using one of our later future picks and even less certainty on who we might pick

The one near guarantee is that NGA product, Malakai Champion, will be an Eagle at some point over the next couple of days

So sit back and watch to see how the draft unfolds whilst praying we don’t do something stupid

What an excellent draft for WCE.

WCE_phil beers on me at Whore Island

I was about to say, I don't think I've seen a more universally agreeable draft reaction from Eagles fans on Twitter, Instagram or on here than I have today.

Bloke idolises Zac Fisher, North are absolutely cooked.

Still have two spots

One main, one rookie

Coby Burgiel might not need to turn up to training tomorrow- might not be a train on spot available unless he kneecaps Sheed
If nobody bids on Champion we still have 1 SSP spot left if we use no rookie picks.
Dewar or Livingstone moves to the main rookie list and Champion joins as a cat b rookie.

We have converted pick 3 (Jagga Smith) to:

  • Liam Baker - definite first 22, maybe even top 10 player for the club next year
  • Bo Allan - highest rated WA talent, slots in almost straight away
  • Tom Gross - natural footballer inside bull, could be anything
  • Matt Owies - immediate first 22, can find the ball and goals

All up, even if Jagga Smith turns out to be a multiple Brownlow winner, I am fine with the return. We needed to lift the floor of our team and we have definitely done this.

That’s a relief was worried freo would take champion there
