If we got Travaglia at 12, do we still take Oliver at 26? Not really the same player I know but aside from KPPs its probably just Davis or maybe Moraes who seem likely to be there, the KPPs are probably better off being taken with an early 30s pick anyway. Do we want another half back in this draft?
Id rather Oliver(if theres no flight risk) over Davis tbh

If we get Lindsay then id 100% go Oliver
If we take Lindsay then 100% take Oliver. If we got Travaglia I’d take Hynes, Barrat or O’Farrell if available otherwise I’d probably still take Oliver. Gross and Moraes would be close but neither are particularly good kicks and can fade in and out of games.

Lindsay and Oliver would be the combo. I really like Oliver. (Though we will need Yeo type player soon when he retires)

If we get Travaglia, I don't see a point getting Oliver. I would say Hynes, Moraes or my favourite, Davis.

Masten actually addressed this. He was working on his weaknesses and Mitchell took him aside and told him to stop trying to be something you're not, focus on making your strengths even better.

Not sure where I read it but it stuck in my mind.

I think Mitchell used it as an example of his coaching philosophy on his pod appearance with Schofield earlier in the year.

Is it just me or is Lindsay a left footed chris masten .

Projects to be an outside endurance runner with good foot skills .

I don't mean this in a bad way . I know people see masten as a fail because he was pick 3 but he played 200 game to a high level for his position
He also did A LOT of unrewarded running which helped spread and open the ground up for the better ball users.
you are never going to have 22 elite ball users, everyone has a role and if they can be elite in their role that is all you can ask.

As far as this draft goes I say go with what we have and go into next years with a Royal Flush hand of picks.
If this years is a pretty even spread of good talent in the top 15-20 whereas next year is very top heavy I would rather have the early picks next year. If we can get Warner and still hold 1 or possibly 2 R1 2025 picks, OMG that would make the ole Baker for pick 3, I know it wasn't, a distant memory.
Unless some unbelievable pick swap comes up massively in our favor, leave it as it is.

With Oliver we get an elite kick that we dont get with Travaglia. Travaglia brings a lot more run while still having a good kick, its just not elite.
Different players.

I picture Oliver being in a back pocket, and doing kick-ins, while Travaglia sits near half back intercepting and going for a run when he gets the ball

We have 6 main list spots to fill, and only 3 picks in teh draft right now. I dont really want to be signing 3 DFA/SSPs tbh, 2 I could handle, but we need at least 1 more pick.
Carrol/Burgiel + a KPD via DFA and 4 picks(3+Champion) would be decent. We have 1 rookie spot on top of those picks

The Warner trade is dumb, cant be giving up multiple 2025 picks for him.

Hawks f1+2026 1st pick is the most id be ok offering without something substantial coming back.
Wouldnt be happy with it, but id be ok with it. Its still probably overs but I know we would go all in.

Assuming we get Hewett fit and he gets somewhere close to where he was meant to be, we dont really have a pressing need for a player like Warner
You’re not getting Warner for a F1 which is discounted being a future pick and a potential pick 12-18. Not even close. Certain posters here weren’t even happy with that equivalent for Barrass

Just to give people an idea of the value of our F2/F3 picks with respect to bid matching for Banfield, Walley and Evans. Based on 2024 finishing positions we’d have 21,31,39,49 then nothing until our R5 pick which would be 75 and of no value

Picks 21,31 matches a bid at 12
Pick 21 matches a bid at 19
Picks 31,39 matches a bid at 20
Pick 31 matches a bid at 28
Picks 39,49 matches a bid at 31
Pick 39 matches a bid at 35
Pick 49 matches a bid at 44

Bids after 50 don’t require points to match so we could match a bid after that with 75

Even more reason why the trade with Essendon of 26, 2xF2 for 28,31, F2(Ess) +/- steak knives makes sense

We’d have 2 usable R1 picks. a R2 pick that might cover a bid on Banfield at 23 and 2x R3 picks that would cover a bid on Walley at 31 should one come that early

Not sure about Evans but my understanding is a pick might not come as early as 44

This draft (with examples in brackets) -
12(Lindsay),28(Davis),31(Barrett),(73)Champion,81 or RD3 (Artemis)

Next draft - Rodriguez, Curtin, Banfield, Walley, Evans (ignoring possible trades)

Would be happy with that
Do the bombers have an interest in trading?

I said Hawks f1 + our 2026 1st pick.

Pick 8-16 + a top 8 pick(idk where we will be in 2026)

We can keep picking in the draft until full. We have picks 12, 26, 73, 81, 99 and 117 if we want to take 6 in the ND. Not thinking we do as we have recently had more than 4 Car A rookies

Do we want to just fill up the list with the last couple of picks of the draft? I feel like id rather trade back into the 2nd round and take something a little more promising, even if its a deep draft

11 list changes this year, 6 draft picks on the books for next year is a bit of a worry. Other than finishing up Sheed and Cripps and probably delisting Jamieson, I'm not sure where those extra list changes come from. We've cut extremely hard of late there really isn't much left to do, everyone left on the list is either a veteran who is clear best 22 of a kid we've barely even started developing. It's an interesting spot to be in. Tom Cole would want to have a big year I think.

Next year I am pretty keen on taking Rodreigez and Curtin in the first round, with Warner possibly coming in I think we need to be targeting either Norths F1 as they look to move down from 2 or [more likely] trying to get Melbournes F1 off of Essendon as part of the Kako pick hiding merry go round.

Hold 12 and get Richmond as a favour to bid on Kako at 10 or 11 [I can see him not being bid on otherwise]. Richmond will of course take Allan before he gets to us and likely anyone else we like as well. Hold Essendon's 28, 31 and 46 for them then when they come back into the draft we exchange 12 for the Melbourne F1 and give them back 31, take 26 and 28 and 46 to the draft. Balance it out however with the futures.

Next year we then have our own, Melbourne's and Hawthornes F1s and likely 3 of the 4 f2 and f3's. I reckon we could all finish pretty close to each other in the draft so not sure how things go but 1 of those picks plus 2x 2nd rounders should be enough to get an uncontracted Warner home. If Rodreigez slides then our first might be enough, if he projects around pick 3 then bundling 2 first rounders might be needed, assuming we rise a little on the ladder- which is not a given, but I hope we do for Harley's sake.

End of the day I'd be happy with Allan or Lindsey this year but would probably prefer to forfeit any of this years first rounders as where we are if it means potentially getting Rodreigez next year alongside Warner. I'd also like to hold off drafting another KPP and take a crack at baby Curtin next year.

Probably have to cut our losses on dealign with Richmond this year even though they will probably try shift some picks around. W can probably assume North will never allow us to get decent value out of a pick swap, so just go all in on Essendon and let them walk away with 12 to spend on some Vic Metro kid. Leaves us with 3 picks in the early to mid second round plus Champion and then adding 2 DFA's, that ok for me if it means 2025 we hold all the cards we need.

At least one of the DFA's on a 1 year deal will need to go straight back out at the end of next year, so come on down Denver.

Set play should be Dewar to Cat A if there is even a remote chance Champion gets through to Cat B and select Max Knobel at pick 3 in the rookie draft.

That would leave 6 spots that could be split between the main list, Cat A rookies and DFA/SSP. I think 3 ND picks, another Cat A rookie and Carroll, Burgiel via the DFA/SSP is most likely at this stage.

Petruccelle, Jamieson, Cripps, Hunt, Cole, Rawlinson, Dewar and even Brockman should all be on notice next year.

Why waste a pick again on Burgiel when a Prior is already a better afl player than he ever will be

You’ll have to speak to Matthew Clarke about that. Don’t think they’d ask him to train on unless he was a decent chance of being retained. As I said that’s how I think it’s going to end up.

Absolutely - you got me with that one.
I always hated, and got triggered as a Coach when players don't / won't work on their weaknesses.

And thats also on Masten's Coaches for allowing him to get away with that.
I have a mate that said they played with him in school.
Said he was a dick, his 1 trick was running rings at centre bounces so that the his oppo had to go with him (apparently they had a dominant ruck)
And in a game they were winning some 100 to 0 blew up at someone who conceded a point.
Mate also goes for Carlton and didn't know who owies was, but that might be due to, "I stopped watching when all our players got injured and we shat the bed"
So grain of salt.

Yes, but how does delisting Rawlinson and Dewar help us open up main list spots if we were to hypothetically use all of our 6 picks in the main draft?

Cripps and Sheed gone are givens. Jamieson really depends on whether we get some cover in for KPD. Not sure 3 of or all 4 of Petch, Cole, Hunt, Brockman get cut. I'd say it's more likely none of them are cut.

Worth pointing out too that if we were to load up and take all of our picks in the main draft those players are all on 2 year deals so that's a problem potentially, DFA's give us more flexibility than using our picks in the last round.

Might be some shock trades featuring best 22 players next year again.

Why is everyone so harsh on Brockman.

He came across into a basket case of a team with a coach everyone knew was a walking target & ended up getting the sacked mid season. We didn’t really have a game plan as it had all been stripped back. It really can’t have been easy to settle in.

Along with that he obviously had personal issues & then got his ankle wrecked once he worked his way back.

Hopefully with some stability at the club & off-field he willl go better next year.

Petch, Jamo, Sheed, Cripps, and 1 other from Cole/Hunt/Chesser/bazzo/Hunt or some trade out is 5 spots. I think Gov gets 1 more year.
If we get a FA or trade in a player then its 4 spots
Potentially those DFA/SSP players we get this year could only be on 1 year deals, lets say we remove 1(assuming we grab 2 this year)
Brings us to 5 spots

If we skip Warner, we have our 3 f/s and NGA kids plus the 2x f1s, makes 5 picks.
If Evans doesnt get drafted then we only take 4 kids in the draft, and rookie Evans, keeping 1 list spot

We will be ok I think

Because if they aren’t instantly AA then this board decides they are a spud and a failure
