I like the breakdown 👍

Good news is at least one of that 4 makes it to our pick (unless Armstrong slides past all of Melbourne, Saints and Richmond which is unlikely)

Bad news is we probably don’t get to choose as all but one are likely gone by our pick (unless one or more of Shanahan/Hotton/Berry go earlier than expected)

That said, I’d be happy with any of those four - they all have the potential to be at least close to whoever we might have taken with pick 3

Also you’ve left FOS (Average), Reid (Above average) and Smillie (Above average) one short on their attributes
Fixed the attributes count. Thanks - good pick up

I have actually made a new measure of weighting the measures.
  • "Elite" it is weighted at 4.
  • "Above Average" has no weighting as a first round pick is meant to be Above Average.
  • "Average" is weighted at -2
  • "Below Average" is weighted at -4
It shows Allan and Draper to be the best ranks and Reid and Travaglia to be the lowest. That is the scientist in me. The footballer says the best ability is availability hence durability is so important that a formula cannot be used. Also the decision making or footy IQ is about the greatest attribute for a midfielder.

Annoyingly I think we really need midfielders that have both Allan and Lindsay's attributes. If only we held picks 12 and 14!

A defensively responsible, big bodied mid and a more outside accumulator with great skills would each really compliment Reid and Hewett, who I see as being quite similar players.

I like Lindsay a little bit more than Allan in isolation, but if we're confident of getting Warner next year then Allan might offer a better fit, other things being equal. Then again, maybe Hall or Ginbey could become that big bodied mid in time?

So another way of looking at it

If we assume (and a big IF) that we will pick a midfielder at 12 and IF they will join the midfield team of Harley, Hewett and Ginbey, here is what Rookie Me Central had for the 3 already of our list. Adding Lindsay or Travaglia is possibly the best pairings.

Is Allan actually going to be a mid, or is that just a hope. We really, really cant afford to pick him and he's just another HBF in the end.

I dont really care if he has won possessions and got ok stats at U18. Does he win clearances, does he have clean hands below his knees, can be evade tackles in close, can he read the ball off hands. You can just plonk anyone in the mids and hope they work but to be a quality mid you need a pretty clear skill set. Tbh, its not really a skill set that guys like Duggan, Ginbey etc have which is why they seem better suited to half back.

With only 1 top end pick and question marks on Hewett and Ginbey (plus most not believing Chesser will make it), that is a question we have to grapple with. If he isn’t a mid, it won’t impact Tigers build but will us.

I'd love to see clean hands/one touch added by RMC . It's such an important attribute to have

Hawks f1 for Baker and kept pick 3 is what should have happened

So barrass + F4 for Baker + F2 Hawks + f3 hawks

Absolutely agree we overpaid for Baker and that's what cost us

But even doing it this way, we'd currently have pick 3 and not have pick 12, Hawks F1 and Owies

Definitely preferable, but it's not the disaster it's being made out. Especially if the Hawks somehow shit the bed next year

Why are we still banging on about paying out the ass for Baker? It's done now. All the complaining in the world isn't gonna turn back time and give them a do over. Can we PLEASE move on?

On another note, how cooked are we?

New coach, new standards, better gameplan and a good run with availability there's no reason that team can't be competitive (at least) with most teams in the league

Also in answer to your first question, it's November. What else is there to bang on about?

I've been playing around with some mock draft combinations and until more rumours start filtering through, this is how I can see it playing out:

1. RICH - Lalor
2. NM - Tauru
3. CARL - FOS
4. ADEL - Draper
5. MELB - Langford
6. RICH - Smillie
7. STK - Smith
8. STK - Travaglia
9. MELB - Allan
10. RICH - Armstrong
11. RICH - Hotton
12. WCE - Lindsay

However, I do suspect the Tigers and North will settle on a deal along the lines of 6 and 11 for 2 and F1, as reported in the media. In which case:

1. RICH - Lalor
2. RICH - FOS
3. CARL - Draper
4. ADEL - Langford
5. MELB - Smith
6. NM - Tauru
7. STK - Smillie
8. STK - Travaglia
9. MELB - Allan
10. RICH - Armstrong
11. NM - Whitlock/Shanahan/Trainor
12. WCE - Lindsay

Need a team above us to take a Caruso-esque liking to Berry, a slight risk on Hotton, or an un-Norf like desire for a tall for us to have a crack at Travaglia or Allan. However, I'm struggling to see how they get through.
But the good news is Lindsay will likely be available anyway and he looks great, otherwise I'm actually quite confident that Murphy Reid will be an option, too. Unless the go-home factor is a major concern, I'd love to see us select him.

Exactly.

People question why we have brought in types such as Hunt, Graham and Flynn as free agents.

Plus Baker, Owies and Brockman as trades.

They lift the floor. They set the standards. These are the players you also need to win flags.

Each premiership side has 6 or 7 guns surrounded by quality role players. You don't get the right role players no flag. Just like if you don't get the right 6 or 7 guns.....no flag.

You do not ignore one and focus just on the other. It is close to impossible to do that in any case. Clubs only have so many top picks to land gun players.

With only 1 natural first round pick per year it takes time to draft the 6 or 7 guns. Or you use your 1st rounders to trade them in.

In the mean time you keep chipping away at improving the quality of your role players and your depth.

All very logical.
You are ignoring the fact that we have barely any guns, as you point out you don't get many chances to land quality low picks and we just pissed ours up against the wall.

Bending the truth a bit here gents.

I don't see to many questioning Allans footballing credentials/production, ( call it whatever you like ), rather I have read several commenting on the similarities to Ginbey and even Allan himself in the AFL interview sees himself as a HBF, very good one mind you.

I don't speak for others but I have said and posted several times that I can see him down the track becoming a very handy wingman and "Yes", I consider wingmen midfielders.

RavaNaved your point is valid that based on this seasons carnival, Allan measures better, however the body of work at the champs over two years, not so much

Blinkered you say, maybe our narrative is different to yours and it can be, that two peoples view and interpretations of things differ and neither is right or wrong, just different.

I think we can all agree that real genuine inside midfield clearance players, are a critical Club need, so excuse those of us who lament not being able to get one with our first pick this year.
You're excused mate

You may be giving our list management team too much credit.

If anybody could tell us before the draft; who our preferred pick at 3 was (that wouldn't be there), it would make sense. However, they can't/won't.

I am sure we will hear after the draft that, whoever Richmond draft at 1 was our preferred target, several others of the top 6 had go home factor and the players left we rated the same as our pick at 12.

Now the above could all be true, but just as likely could be club spin.

I am not having a go at any particular poster(s). Just my cynical take on the situation.
Well the.list management team in my opinion don't deserve much credit the last.few years.
The recruiters on the other hand

Great mock with very likely scenarios.

Unlikely, but If Murphy Reid is there at 12 we would have to take him. He's pure class with footy IQ, clean hands and elite disposal.
