I’ll be pissed if we overlook Max Knobel at #3 in the rookie draft and take Burgiel. We should have given him a one year extension IMO.
100% we won't have the minerals to take Knobel. Just cannot see it happening...

Bloody wish we would though.

Hewett in his underage year was an absolute gun midfielder who was a running machine. That injury really impacted him in his u18 year IMO.

Hoping no more set backs.

Did I read correctly when this injury was first brought up in January that it's been hurting him since before he got drafted and he didn't tell the club about it until it finally got to much for him? I remember reading that on either the West or from the Eagles injury report announcement. That's crazy.

Yeah I remember being gutted that we were gonna miss out on him because he would go in the top handful and we would be decent that year so wouldn’t have a pick good enough.

Turns out we had the pick and traded it away but got him anyway.

Wow only took me 4 working days to catch up on the Draft thread.
Some really great points raised and discussed.
I really like the Essendon pick swap and feel that this is an area I hope eventuates. There are just going to be so many good players still on the table after Pick 26.

Personally, just from WA we have Dennis , Artemis, Urqhart, Boxshall, Davis and my favourite Kayle Gerreyn. Let alone the other states. Just a great draft to get back into.

I really like Gerreyns movement and agility. His attack on the football is brilliant. With some necessary aggression. For me even at 199cm and the fact that we have a lot of good young forwards. I would be looking at playing him back and not in the Ruck at all. Not having watched any Colts for about 3 years I'd be interested from our watchers if they think that he can read the ball/play (as this is where I think H Edwards fails to a degree)

Lindsay for our first pick, but seems to think there’s a big chance we trade up for Travaglia or Allan. Also actual links to Hannaford 👀👀
(Herald sun phantom)
I’m very concerned about the look in Clarke’s eye when asked if he was looking to trade up in the draft when he said “absolutely”…

We better not do something dumb. Again.

12 and F1 (HAW) for 7 and F2 (STK) is about all I can handle and only because it gets Travaglia.

Yeah I’ve got a sinking feeling he might do something like that for Allan. We’re getting mild links to players like Lindsay or Hotton, more likely we’ll wait it out.

St Kilda apparently want more picks this year and probably trade back with GWS. Imagine Melbourne/Richmond would be the potential partners for us 😬

Unlikely Melbourne trade back after trading up so aggressively. “Making sure Richmond are compensated” for losing pick 11 to us is the worry then offering 12 and 26 for 11.

I can only see downside and disapointment if we try and trade back into the top 10 - would only be doubling down on the pick3/Baker fiasco. The only thing worst than that is offoading our F1 for next and us finishing last/second last.
We're our own worst enemy though because if we do finish last/second last then I can imagine Clarke will fall over himself offering it for Warner.

At least if we trade it for a pick this year then we can still get top young talent as well as getting fleeced for Warner with the rest of our picks next year.

Yeah, I read the same and it made total sense.

He went from a dominant junior at a u17, to suddenly pretty good. The first time I saw him, he was playing for WA u17s vs the u18s in a practice match and he just looked a level above and I thought he's exactly what we need.
The WAFL colts grand final that year, he was one of the best on ground that day.

Slow start to his u18 year, then a dominant reminder vs Vic Metro (must've just played through the pain), then for the rest of the champs he was bang average and the rest of that year was pretty good without being outstanding. Did a few nice things playing for SD seniors, but didn't kick on like I'd hoped. Made sense that he was carrying something retrospect.

Yeah it's bizarre that no SD or WC coaching/medical staff ever figured it out and he was able to hide it from everyone.
There were rumours that the AFL knew and some clubs excluding us caught wind of it.

Gee I hope not.

We traded 3 for 12 + 14.
Then to trade 12 + F1 to climb back up 5 spots?

That's the equivalent of trading 3 for 7 and getting nothing back. Ignore the F2(STK), with how compromised 2025 is shaping to be, that may well be pick 40+

I wrote Hawks F1 mate, not ours.

It’s 12 and F13 for 7 and F23 on 2024 ladder.

You’re right though. Imagine trading down from pick three only to then come out publicly and say you want to trade up into the top 10. Tells you everything you need to know.
