Dennis is not going to get past Collingwood’s four late picks. If we want him we’ll have to trade into the mid 3R, probably with Essendon or Sydney.

26, F2, F3 for 28, 31, 46 in two trades remains our best bet.

12-Travaglia/Lindsay
28-Moraes/Oliver
31-O’Farrell/Ough
46-Johnson/Dennis
72-Champion
77-Knobel
Rookie-Burgiel
What is it you like about Ough? I watched one highlights video, it was just him taking chest marks in space - not very instructuve

Very likely that none of this draft will impact in the midfield next season, why are people mad that those available at pick 12 might not start in the middle 😂

Same with writing Ginbey off as a mid after 30 games, fools that don’t know football.
Ginbey himself has written himself off as a midfielder and that's from his own mouth. Mini has him training as a defender.

Doesn't have the smarts/craft and who cares because more than happy with him back there, looks way more natural.

not a top shelf draft decision again.
I get why we split, with go home factors and injury concerns, but I would have taken Phillipou and Hewett. Ginbey is tracking ok, though. The chances of getting Sheezel talent at #9 is slim. I still think Hewett ends up an A-grader, though. Any punk who blows vape smoke into the Collingwood list-management team gets the A-OK from me.

Has us taking Taj Hotton in preference to Murphy Reid and Joe Berry. Lindsay, Allan and Travaglia all gone by our pick although Richmond are considering Berry or Reid rather than Lindsay

PICK 15: WEST COAST EAGLES – TAJ HOTTON

Position:
Midfielder/medium forward

Size: 180cm

Clubs: Sandringham Dragons/Hampton Rovers

AFL player comparison: Shai Bolton

Foxfooty.com.au Draft Power Rankings: 17

If he’d played a full season, the sense is Hotton would’ve been taken even earlier than this, for he was arguably the hottest player of the draft pool at the start of the season before rupturing his ACL at training in May. Athletic, agile and versatile, Hotton had significantly improved his endurance earlier in the year, which allowed him to spend more time on the ball. It led to some monster Talent League games for the Dragons – most notably against the Chargers where he kicked 4.1 from 32 disposals, 10 marks, five inside 50s and five tackles – while he also played a game for the AFL academy, booting two goals from 18 disposals against Coburg. Considering the Eagles parted with Pick 3 during the trade period, getting Hotton – a possible top-five talent with a full 2024 campaign – at this selection would be a great result.

In the mix/trade watch: Rival clubs believe the Eagles will target the best available talent, rather than needs, with their first selection. If one of Xavier Lindsay or Tobie Travaglia are available, West Coast would be a big chance to pick them. Otherwise, it looms as a tight call between Hotton, Joe Berry and Murphy Reid, with the Eagles meeting with Berry again in recent days. It’s understood the Eagles have also put a lot of work into Bendigo Pioneers key forward Jobe Shanahan, who has ample interest from clubs who hold mid first-round picks.

Other points of interest re West Coast - whilst there’s suggestions we might try to trade into the first round, rival clubs believe it’s unlikely as we (and Fremantle) want to retain draft capital for Warner

There’s no mention of who we might be looking at with our second pick but the likes of Moraes, Gross, Davis, Ough and Clarke are still on the board. As is Trainor

They are also expecting that Champion will not be bid on

That's not what you said.

Baker didn't sit at the negotiating table. Everyone is unhappy with the price paid but Baker didn't set it.

He's a quality player who improves the team.
Didn’t realise I’d need to specify that cost is crucial in player acquisition and if it’s too high that I’d rather the player not be at the club. Be great to have Bontempelli, Daicos and Cripps in our midfield but we can’t afford them all can we.

Baker DID actually say he’s not coming unless Richmond are well compensated. Also poor that he didn’t show up to training after the club moved heaven and earth to get him in, particularly when Richmond’s season ended when ours did. His B&F performance also didn’t scream quality, I don’t care how many beers he had.

Thoroughly unimpressed so far regardless of price. Even more unimpressed when cost is factored in, as it should be with any player acquisition.

No mention of either Hotton or Reid with our pick but rather saying we’re interested in Lindsay and Travaglia and also linking us to Shanahan

Quite a grab bag of names with our later picks

Eagles fans can rest easy that they are going to get a quality talent with the pick they received from Carlton in their much scrutinised trade – but it appears unlikely to be Bo Allan. The top prospect from WA has strong interest from St Kilda, Melbourne and Richmond who hold multiple picks before West Coast and it would be a surprise to see him get to the Eagles’ pick 12. It means versatile Vic Country playmakers Xavier Lindsay and Tobie Travaglia – whose girlfriend is the sister of Eagles player Tom Cole’s wife – could be available, with the Eagles linked to both.
Bendigo Pioneers key forward Jobe Shanahan is a big contender with the Eagles putting in late work on the marking forward, who has impacted at VFL level this season. Small forward Joe Berry is another who can address a glaring need.
At their second pick, the Eagles are fans of Dandenong Stingrays forward-midfielder Cooper Hynes and GWV Rebels small forward Ollie Hannaford. After losing Tom Barrass, they have expressed interest in competitive key defender Noah Mraz – who may be off the board by their second selection – and are eyeing off South Fremantle defender Tom Bell as a later pick. All-Australian Clancy Dennis is another WA key back with appeal at the back-end, while they are among the clubs who could place a bid on St Kilda NGA defender Lenny Hofmann.
The Eagles have done their homework on Geelong Falcons midfielder Xavier Ivisic and are among local footy smokey Sam Toner’s suitors. They have nominated NGA speedster Malakai Champion, who finished second in the agility test and fifth the 20m sprint at the combine, and could receive a late bid or slide to the rookie draft. West Coast have also showed a continued interest throughout the year in raw Sudanese ruckman Ajang Kuol mun, 22, who won the vertical jump test at the state combine.

194cm midfielder, plays inside and outside, one of the youngest kids in the cohort and showed a lot of development as the year wore on. In his last 8 games after he was BOG vs Calder he started hitting the scoreboard and he was finding a lot more of the footy.

You may recall I was pretty keen on us take Freijah last year as a wingman with our 3R. Not exactly the same player but they do share some attributes. Ough’s got a big frame, can exit the contest and has great hands.

He does get a lot of outside uncontested ball and the way he plays would need some work to fit into the proposed system but the talent and ability is there.

What's Nicholls' draft range?

Anywhere from 35-55 IMO, but I think in the 40s is most likely.
