My non expert opinion is Baker + Reid Mk3 isn't a bad result given how dodgy it once looked. Don't get me wrong, still woeful football acumen from those involved in the decision making, but a potentially bullet dodged?
Its a shit result compared to Baker and draiper .

Don't like how much we're being linked with a tall forward with our first.

It’s a worry, I rate Shanahan very highly but I don’t see why we’d go tall. Just get Mraz or Trainor with our second pick ideally.

Yeah, Armstrong not going before our pick stings. Would ideally like to have the pick of Reid or Lindsay / Allan / Travaglia.

Reid is so clean, but there’s a bit of boom or bust with him.

Reid and Hotton could both turn out to be great picks in this range or completely kill us. I worry about these guys given our lack of ability to develop talent lately and the supposed go-home risks. We really need a safer prospect like Lindsay.

This is boarding on worst case scenario areas. Best case is Lindsay, TT, Allen get through, then Reid. Its very possible they all go if Tigers dont go tall. In that world I bet we go Berry or Shanahan, maybe Hotton. I also have a feeling about Hynes too for some reason. None feel great given we had pick 3 to start off.

Dunno, I don't mind the look of Murphy Reid who Twomey has us taking

Reid + Baker + Owies from pick 3 doesn't seem like the huge disaster I keep reading it is

Yeah agreed, I like both of them but the boom or bust factor with both is terrifyingly high.

Lindsay or Travaglia would’ve been perfect here, will sting if they go one or two picks before ours.

Wouldn’t mind seeing if twelve and our future second could get us up one or two spots to secure Lindsay, Travaglia or even Allan at this point.

HUN have an article on who each club is linked to and possible pick swaps. Here is the write up on us

Eagles fans can rest easy that they are going to get a quality talent with the pick they received from Carlton in their much scrutinised trade – but it appears unlikely to be Bo Allan. The top prospect from WA has strong interest from St Kilda, Melbourne and Richmond who hold multiple picks before West Coast and it would be a surprise to see him get to the Eagles’ pick 12. It means versatile Vic Country playmakers Xavier Lindsay and Tobie Travaglia – whose girlfriend is the sister of Eagles player Tom Cole’s wife – could be available, with the Eagles linked to both.

Bendigo Pioneers key forward Jobe Shanahan is a big contender with the Eagles putting in late work on the marking forward, who has impacted at VFL level this season. Small forward Joe Berry is another who can address a glaring need.
At their second pick, the Eagles are fans of Dandenong Stingrays forward-midfielder Cooper Hynes and GWV Rebels small forward Ollie Hannaford. After losing Tom Barrass, they have expressed interest in competitive key defender Noah Mraz – who may be off the board by their second selection – and are eyeing off South Fremantle defender Tom Bell as a later pick. All-Australian Clancy Dennis is another WA key back with appeal at the back-end, while they are among the clubs who could place a bid on St Kilda NGA defender Lenny Hofmann.

The Eagles have done their homework on Geelong Falcons midfielder Xavier Ivisic and are among local footy smokey Sam Toner’s suitors. They have nominated NGA speedster Malakai Champion, who finished second in the agility test and fifth the 20m sprint at the combine, and could receive a late bid or slide to the rookie draft. West Coast have also showed a continued interest throughout the year in raw Sudanese ruckman Ajang Kuol mun, 22, who won the vertical jump test at the state combine.

Take away points
1. Pick 12 focuss is on Travaglia, Lindsay or Shanahan.
2. Pick 26 focuss is on Hynes, Hannaford or Mraz
3. Later pick with Bell or Dennis
4. We might bid on Hofmann (I hope not as he is only 190cm and his 2 improvement areas are kick consistency and 1on1 defending. But there again St Blunders picked our pocket with Collard so revenge.
5. Very late picks Ivisic (mid) and Toner (smaller forward) and Ajang Kuol mun (Geelong Falcons ruck at 2020cm)
6. Champion bid not expected until very late to not at all meaning he can be taken as a rookie

I would be OK with us eyeing off GWS picks 56 and 73. After bids, they will come in to mid to about 40 and 60 (I have made some assumption on the FS and academy bids and the picks used to match). They may want for Logan Smith so not clear on that. Not sure what future would be required for 56 and 73 - maybe only the Hawks F3.

If we take Shanahan at 12 (who I do rate highly and would be a good KPP that could start back), I would be hoping we try to get a couple of picks in the 30's or 40's to add to 26 who I expect to then be a mid. We could go for a bigger Essendon trade where we do 26 and futures for 28, 31 40 and futures. Not sure what it would take but less of a premium payable if we agree to buy in and sell out with the same club It is effectively a downgrade of 2 (26 to 28) plus 31 and 40. I will refrain from stating the futures involved as that creates a sh1tshow and leave that up to personal interpretation.

2024 draft hand then becomes
12
28
31
40
72
77

Obviously 2025 weakened hand but still very strong.

I think our picks 72 and 77 likely come in to being around 60 and 65 by the time the bids have been taken and picks used to match. With the minimum of 197 points discount, I suggest we have Champion well and truly covered. so we may get 2 late picks and there is no Champion bid and he goes to rookie list.

Another way to get a mid 50's pick would be to trade the 3 x F3 from Crows for the Hawk's F2. Norf want a F2 to go with pick 4 in exchange for pick 2. New points system next year and I expect the 3 x F3 will only deliver 2025 points of combined 300 to 400 while the Hawks F2 is 429 if they finish 6th. So the deal would be 3 x F3 plus 64 this year (Crows hold and will likely in to be mid to late 50's pick). It would leave us in 2025 with 2 x F1, 1 x F2 and 4 x F3. Points only allocated to first 3 round picks in 2025.

I assume the new game plan is Richmond with a dash of Melbourne.

Both teams have very good ball winners and rebound defenders .

I'm not that happy about going to a Richmond style game plan as the stand rule pretty much made that game plan impotent likewise ours .

The new rules have made the game plan overlap run and carry with precision short kicking .

He has mentioned aiming at a forward half pressure game where we force more turnovers closer to our goal. In the forward half in more dangerous parts of the ground.

The more forward half turnovers we can generate the more we will hurt the opposition.

To do that we need pace and manic pressure players in that forward half.

So we shouldn't be surprised if we draft some.

WCE: Murphy Reid.

"If Bo Allan got through then he'd be the guy, but it looks unlikely. Tobie Travaglia and Xavier Lindsay would also be in the mix, while they could also go tall with Harry Armstrong, Jobe Shanahan or Jack Whitlock. Taj Hotton is another player the Eagles are understood to be considering closely..."

Only names Cal hasn't dropped in here as alternatives are Bock and Gunston.

I don't like it myself, pants lad. That feels like a double own goal.

This draft has too much talent for us to only have 2 picks inside the top 30. I'm not saying trade out our future picks. But certainly should be offering the Hawks ones.

I'd be over the moon if we ended up with Murphy Reid. Probably the only player who would make me feel pretty good about the trade away from pick 3. I know he is a touch smaller than other midfielders in the pool but his decision making, disposal (particularly hands in tight), evasiveness and goal sense more than make up for that slight lack in size imo. Can't for the life of me understand why he wouldn't be top 10.

Seen a phantom with us trading with GWS pick 19 (after bids) for Hawks F1. Maybe if we are keen on Hotton and he's still there at 19 it could be worth it. GWS are pretty likely to trade one of their first rounders.

If we come out of the draft with
Reid (12)
Hotton (19)
Trainor (30)
It would be the go home 3 lol but plenty of talent
