Taj 'fu*king' Hotton??, this is the dude we traded down to get?

We got fu*ked in the ass during trade period, and we're now gonna get fu*ked in the ass during draft night.

Bloke played 3 games before his knee gave up on him and that was enough for our list management to get a hard-on for him.

He's not gonna play at all next year bookmark it.

You can already imagine the midseason headline: 'Youngsters season over after complications with knee'

Fu*k me this is dumb list management.
No no no. We are going to rush him back and he's going to play a couple of games before breaking down and missing all of 2026 as well! But watch out 2027!

Jobe Shanahan's video is now online:

Contrary to what seems popular here, I would be OK with Shanahan at 12. I would then want us to get back into the draft and get 2 of Gross, Hynes, Hannaford, Moraes, etc with a late R1 purchase and our pick 26. I suspect we will take a tall, so whether that is at 12, 26 or a later pick, it is about the mix.

It won't be popular but there again, our picks apart from Harley have of late been unpopular decisions.

This might be the winner for the Wettest Bed competition.

I get people complaining; we've been shit for years and seem to be making some trash decisions, but when all they do is complain (not aimed at you), it gets tiring.

And let's face it, none of us know what's gonna happen. I remember this entire board being full of the same sort of complaints in 2017, and you campaigners know what happened next.
Glass half full, glass half empty.

Same, same really.

We’re never going to agree on everything, some hated the split back in 2022 as well but I don’t think the anger at the club has ever been so outward and vocal.

So much so that many posters that are usually pragmatic and complain very little feel the need to vent this time round and yet they are now seen as constant complainers for their strong opinions?

Labelling fellow posters as bed wetters just for having a strong opinion on the matter is not going to accomplish anything productive and yet some keep running with it as if they have some moral high ground or deluded truth.

Banter is fine, god knows we all love our sarcasm on this board 😂 but the fact is free speech isn’t designed to protect opinions we like but those we don’t and some have shown recently that this concept is either beneath them or beyond them.

I don’t require all to like or agree with me for instance, I welcome those who passionately disagree but if they don’t want to respond by playing the ball and not the man then perhaps it’s best they just sit this one out and that goes for both sides.

I am more than comfortable with Shanahan at 12, although I think Richmond would be crazy not to pick him with one of the picks before ours.

Also like your idea of trading back into the top of the second to get some B grade mids.

Not sure if it has been posted yet.

Sources told foxfooty.com.au the Dockers are considering moving a few spots up the order to West Coast’s selection, which would help them secure one of Hotton, Reid or Berry and hand the Eagles another 2024 draft pick, most likely in the second round. It comes amid a strengthening link between Hotton and the Eagles, per rival clubs.

Hotton – a star Sandringham talent recovering from a mid-season ACL rupture – wasn’t one of the 20 players invited to attend the first night of the draft but will be connected to Fox Footy’s broadcast via Zoom.

14 + 30 for 12?
So they wanna jump ahead of Port...
Who will be left over for us?
I'd imagine we only do this is we have a clear picture of each club's targets and their backup picks.
Similar to the deal that netted them Sinn and we ended up with Chesser.

Maric’s Positional Switch?

It’s still very early in pre-season but there was a sign that youngster Ryan Maric could be in for a positional switch under new coach Andrew McQualter. Maric, 20, was drafted as an exciting young forward with pick No.1 in the 2023 mid-season rookie draft and while he has kicked 16 goals in 29 games, late in this season he spent time on a wing.

Now it appears the Eagles could be looking to deploy the versatile 196cm footballer down back. Maric joined Harry Edwards, Reuben Ginbey and Coby Burgiel in some defensive drills alongside backline coach Luke Webster, premiership skipper turned skills coach Shannon Hurn and two-time Geeong premiership defender Harry Taylor.

Backman Callum Jamieson and mid-season rookie Jack Hutchinson walked a few laps before going inside, while Elijah Hewett, Campbell Chesser and Brady Hough only made a brief appearance on the track in the middle of the session.

I think the Saints could do well to grab Shanahan early to ease the pressure on King ..

I'm just interested to see if the club can botch this any further. Nothing at all will surprise me tomorrow though as I'm expecting the worst. Sad really.

Hopefully we can regain some respect and take Lindsay or Reid if they last that long.

Also hoping we don't try and trade back into the late st round and burn next year's picks.

My interest lies in if we trade back into the top end of the draft… and how much we pay to do it….

All the WAFL clubs put massive restrictions on the Eagles so that if everything was going right and players 24-44 were excellent players then we wouldn't dominate the competition.

Given our players in the WAFL have been small in numbers (due to injuries, etc) over the last few years we get pumped weekly and the developing players aren't learning anything and we don't have WAFL Reserves to keep the team at a competitive level.
Nah the club is incompetent in running a WAFL side.
The WAFC has given them more concessions this year and still Ruscoe and Jackson Nelson have decided to leave.
All the delisted players have decided to go as well. This is not the first year of a Exodus of players.
Last year Waterman and Sumich decided to leave. The club can't build a list and hold on to any decent players.

For those who are wondering where we stand as regard the beagles for 2025

Up to eighty-three (83) cumulative player points• Up to twenty (22) Protected Players• Minimum of 25 WAFL Contracted players listed at all times.• Total Player Payments: 65% + Competitive BalanceBase TPP + (Super) $152,750 + ($18,330)Competitive Balance Rules + (Super) $13,000 + ($1,560)Total Ex $165,750 + ($19,890)Total Inc. Super $185,640.00

To put this in perspective Peel have 80 points and run a league and reserves teams and a minimum 55 players on their list.
The beagles have 83 points and a minimum 25 players. It looks like they can have as many players as they like so long as they don't exceed the 83 points cap As a comparison East Perth, West Perth ,Claremont, Subiaco, Swans and East Freo have 90 points. Souths and Perth have more points under the competitive model.

The salary cap is two thirds of most WAFL clubs. Remember WAFL teams have a minimum 55 players on their list and have to pay all their WAFL league players match payments unlike the Beagles who will have AFL listed players on Afl contracts who are not included in the Beagles TPP.

It is really up to the Beagles to recruit decent players from Other leagues.
East Perth have lost Crowden and Schumacher to the SANFL. They have already recruited delisted AFL Geelong/Hawthorn player Cooper Stephens. I suspect he will be one of the better paid players at East Perth and the club will find him a decent job.

No reason the Beagles can't do the same especially with so many players leaving the club and enough points and TPP to get some decent players.
