Would be keen to hear from WCE_phil re Knobel. Think that's a miss from us.

Hahahahahahaha. Just got wifi on my flight.

Was offered a contract by us and did negotiations but freo wanted too much in trade only to delist him with the promise of redrafting. He either wanted to stay at freo or go home so the club didn't bother. It was discussed as an option with our last live pick in the ND.

So freo are pissed, Knobel doesn't get to either place he wants and GC have picked up an absolute steal. GC were definitely short a true ruck on their list and Knobel could even play games next year. Whilst it's all rather amusing outside of him coming to WC this is probably the best spot for Knobel to be.

Also means Freo are locked in with their rucks next year and really can't afford to lose one which gives us much more bidding power money wise when it comes to Warner.

That makes sense as to why we wouldn't, and kudos to GC for having a crack. As I said above, it's no biggie and hopefully we unearth a gem in the pre-season, but the explanation is appreciated, thank you.

Can you shed any light on who we plan to invite to train other than Burgiel?

It's still a bit annoying. He could have very well been our no1 ruck by years end for the loss of absolutely nothing

In the sense that they can’t offload fatboi to clear cap space?

They still have Reidy though, who also looks like a pretty solid option.

Club was always leaving a spot open for the SSP period and had already committed to Champion.

So you weigh up Davis being stoked to be at WCE in the national draft vs Knobel potentially being very unhappy being taken by a club he and his manager had said no to in the past month.

This draft period just keeps on giving.

The Violet Crumbles.

1. Miss out on Berry.
2. Consolation prize is M Reid for three years before he heads home.
3. Knobel gets stolen from underneath them.

If Fatboi has an amazing season and is traded out freo are going to be very, very light on in the ruck. I don't think Jackson is a number 1 ruck and whilst Reidy has shown a fair bit he's no star. Freo have really, really cocked this up.

Despite the stuff up, I would still prefer their ruck stocks to ours by a mile

Agreed 100%, given the dross at the bottom of most teams lists there was just no need for Freo to do it this way. Still would have worked if not for GC taking him, breaking the long standing tradition of not taking delisted senior players who have promises to go back to their club.

Absolute cluster by Freo. You know what they say......#ForeverFreo

In any case WCE_phil well done on a great few days drafting.
Your last sentence intrigues me. What % would you put to Warner (Warners??) coming to us for 2026?

They also have ~$2m a year tied up in those ruck stocks, maybe more

Probably more than double what we’re paying Flynn, Williams and Barnett

Knobel would’ve been handy but there’s no point bringing someone to the club you know doesn’t want to be there

This far out 50/50. I won't be apart of it though. I think im back in WA for about 2 months total next year. The clubs best shot at Warner was the Swans winning the flag this year. If they did it was a done deal.

As the old adage goes 12 months is a long time in football. For the club best case scenario is Warner has a down / injury interrupted year that lowers his draft value and demands a trade to WC. Hawks have a slightly down year and it's Hawks 2025 first + WCE 2026 first and some pick swaps.

WCE_phil will Clancy Dennis or anyone else be considered for train on?

The train on players will be discussed later on. I'm no longer apart of it mate. The rest of the recruiting team will be around it as well as input from Mini and Worsfold following the clubs current players and then decisions and offers to train on will be made from there.

This is the dream. We need to keep our first next year if at all possible given it will probably be a top 3 pick. If we can add Warner + A top ranked midfielder in 2026 we could actually be reasonable

Putting together what you said a while back with our board you gave post-draft, is it correct to say then that we felt Lalor, Langford, Draper and Smith weren't keen to come to WA, with FOS remaining but unlikely to be there at 3?

North did it to GC a few years ago when they pinched Greenwood. I'm sure it has happened at least once more as well.
