Re- Zacs report. They said on the commentary that 'He threw someone to the ground'.....and that the umpire mentioned something about him being reported, but didn't take his book out. So who knows....sounds pretty lame. Hopefully it gets thrown out.

Here's some positives:

  • Pavlich played his best game for the year and showed that he is going to be difficult to stop for opposition teams.
  • Our personnel problems were mostly due to suspension and not injury.
  • Whilst Peel lost, the official write up includes this: BEST: C.Pearce, Z.Clarke, C.Sylvia, A.Morabito, B.Jones. So there is a bit to work with through the reserves if we need to make some changes. Clarke is a no brainer to replace Hannath who I don't think is up to scratch. Sylvia could come into that current team in place of Crozier, Neale or Sutcliffe. Dawson comes back in and I think C Pearce can be brought in as well.
  • There is an eight day break until we face Essendon.

The other thing is the Hawks have a bigger flog/to decent fan ratio than I thought possible.

They might even surpass the eagles in that regard.

I can't believe how many of them are still crying that the media dared talk about someone other than Hawthorn in the lead-up to the grand final. Bunch of entitled prats they are.

Yeah we knock them over come finals time and I'll be doing more than caressing it down their throats...might actually be the first mod to get banned :)

A bad loss but one that could be the making of our season.
Not many are giving enough importance to team continuity. Moving up from the Wafl will take a few games to get the pace of AFL and also playing a new position takes some getting used too.
We were completely outplayed by a better team who were on fire.
We're not as good as we thought we were and we've got 90% of the season to get it right.
Learn from it and move on.

We are expecting you to fly the flag now Lach.

Nah, Keyser Soze did that years ago.

Posting scat pr0n or something.
I was innocent

Bruce's commentary gets more absurd by the week.

If I had the skills I'd love to dub his commentating over skin flick footage

Ate a small child.

The thing that I'm holding onto is they can't play much better than that.

We certainly can.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. Also don't think they can get that sort of lucky ball going their way too. I know you create your own luck to some degree in this business, but in that first quarter, the ball just kept doing the Hawk's bidding. It was freaky.

They couldn't play.

That's what would happen.

Or, as they do consider us as a contender, they may want to keep their foot on our throat going into the finals, (assuming that both teams make it).

Way too early imo to be calling ladder positions at the pointy end of the year. Anything can happen.

Well of course that is possible, but i am responding to a post that claims the return clash will have enormous significance. I doubt that is so, and think most teams going into a finals campaign with a core group of older stars like Hodge, Mitchell etc, as well as a lack of depth in some key areas, such as ruck, will take the opportunity to rest some. It is a pretty established tactic. At this stage the return bout could be quite meaningless, just as it has been in the past.

The return match will be in no way meaningless.

Even if they send over a B side, getting a win over Hawthorn (which i don't need to remind everyone, hasn't happened in a while) will be huge for the heads.

Beating the Hawks will remove the psychological barriers that accompany the name.

Yeah/nah.

The epic battles between Geelong and Hawthorn prior to finals were always balls out, 110% affairs because both teams wanted to dominate, (which Geelong obviously did), before the important stuff.

Hawthorn rate us, Clarko openly admits that, and they won't be throwing too many games against us in the near future.

They don't have to travel to Perth for Geelong/Hawthorn games. That makes a significant difference, especially when talking about veteran players. A lot of the big Melbourne clubs neglect to send their older players over here for the 1 game every 4 seasons they have to play here.

The psychological holds Geelong had over Hawthorne is huge. It gives Geelong the confidence to bounce back when behind and Hawthorne the "not again!" feel when they got ahead.

If i have come up with a reason/excuse for our performance this week, this will be it. The hawks have the beef on us for too long a period. It'll be huge for us if we manage to beat them before going into the finals.

One interesting thing a read about Gawthorn was that Luke Hodge apparently called up a few team mates and they trained before the club asked them to come back from the off season, as it wasn't a directive of the club, it is ok with th AFLPA.
So this raises two points in my mind. Hawthorn players (some) aren't starting with less training time that other teams, where as we were starting 3/4 weeks behind other teams. This shows Hawthorn is very, very determined not to fade away this year.
Secondly I'm going to be very interested to see if they burn out at all come the end of the season. Personally I can't see it but some signs may be there when we next meet.

Nah/yeah/nah

Do you really think they will send over a player like Mitchel if he has half a niggle for a game that means little, especially when they can get a significant psychological advantage by not sending him? I don't think so. They will want him fresh for finals, and will take away a heap of Intel about us, while leaving minimal behind.

Nah/yeah/nah/yeah ;)

That is all contingent on it being a nothing game.

I'm not conceding the minor premiership to Hawthorn or anyone else just yet. Nor am I conceding that we will need to win the game for position.

I aint got coulda's crystal ball.
