Well of course, he said it was an eagles supporter didn't he?

Yet like you he manages to elevate himself above the run of the mill idiots and set new benchmarks in stupidity

Our forward is just too small.

Mayne needs to replace de boer as the defensive forward. De boer has no opposite foot, while defensively he is very good he keeps getting in the way and makes poor decisions with the ball.

Gibson had a field day until sandilands played deep and Gibson shiitteed himself and couldnt zone off and rebound.

Sandilands needs to play more deep forward, griffin and Clarke can easier lead the ruck.

Fyfe and Sylvia need to rotate inside mid and high forward.

Neale defensively is a liability and his kicking lacks penetration. No quick enough for a small guy.

Sheridan has no impact in the contest, skills are ok but not for an outside runner.

Crozier again no impact in the contest, not slow but not quick, ok skills but no excellent.

Suban is an ok role player but just doesn't have anybody except for a penetrating left foot.

Hannath is a depth player and anything else.

Yeah it was disturbing how easily they won the clearances tonight. .

We're Freo. We're used to losing the clearances. But tonight it was just shocking. They got clean ball out of the middle so..... so effortlessly.

Don't know whether it was Sandi down on form or that we were missing Barlow and Fyfe. Whatever it was though, it needs fixing. Quickly.

Count the number of times in a normal game that Sandi taps it to either Fyfe or Balow's advantage - you'll see it's considerable. Take both these guys away and give Mundy a strong tag and bang goes most of our contested ball.

More than a few times tonight Sandi tapped it straight behind him to where Fyfe or Barlow would *usually* be waiting to collect and manufacture either a forward 50 entry or a handpass to advantage... but there was no one there to collect those taps today.

With both Fyfe and Barlow out, we lose the 55-60 odd possessions those two guys rack up per game, many of which are contested.

I repeatedly asked myself throughout the week "Who in the team is going to step in and rack up inside possessions and hitouts those two guys provide us with?" I couldn't come up with an answer - evidently neither could anyone else in the Freo brains trust.

It shows you just how good Fyfe and Barlow really are, their inside ball-winning ability makes everyone else around them a possession winner.

The sooner Ballard and Morra are ready to step up to the plate and pinch hit where necessary, the better.

You guys couldn't have played any worse and we couldn't have played any better than we did in the first half. You are obviously a lot better than you showed tonight.

It will be a much different game next time we meet with different personnel.

If we don't win the flag this year i hope you do.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Hey thanks for popping in. Want to ask someone from a Hawks' perspective, and don't think it would be heard right on their board so I'll ask you here. Did it all seem a bit too easy, like surprisingly so, against Freo tonight? I mean, I've not seen a Freo team play with so little intensity, work-rate and lack of pressure since the early days when Ross first arrived. I know the Hawks are fantastic movers with and without the ball, and skilled in the way they go about it. Your boys were running really hard and made us look pedestrian, so not suggesting there was no effort, but we offered so little resistence. I wouldn't mind a Hawk's point of view.

Seriously I don't understand the doom and gloom on your board

Geelong spanked you midyear in Geelong when you were missing your inside mids - but you turned it around in September

Barlow and Fyfe are critical players for you

See you later in the year!

Early in the game it was DeBoer and, to a lesser degree, Suban who were asked to go in there. Both were ineffective, DeBoer who always works hard in the contest was, and I hate to bag him, the worst of a bunch of players who seemed to have no touch - fumble, fumble, fumble and poor disposal when he finally got his hands on it.

If you want an honest assessment - there were a few witches hats playing for you tonight

Minimal pressure etc, no real resistance either

However all is not lost for Freo - it's a H&A match - 4 points only

I'm not sure that anyone can beat Hawthorn currently without winning the clearances (or at least breaking even there) - it's hard to get the ball off us

Completely different game with Fyfe and Barlow playing - anyone who tells you they'd make no difference is trolling you

We're practising our Richmond impression.

As you know it's boring or worse when your own mob gets slapped and you certainly slapped us from first to last siren tonight.
We were poor and your first Q in particular was the stuff they make instructional DVDs out of.
It's like worms in the garden I guess, after it rain your own idiots surface in numbers.

Always listen to RTB's presser after a bad loss.. the man knows how to make me feel better after watching that sh*t :thumbsu:

Just got home from the game. Worst I've seen us play live since the 2nd half against Melbourne a few years ago at the MCG.

For years as a Melbourne-based fan I've had people feeling bad for me because of my support for Freo. There was very little respect amongst the average Melburnian for our team, which we've worked our arses off over the past few years to earn. Tonight was the first time in ages where people felt sorry for me again for who I support. And in the grand scheme of things tonight's probably an abomination (just like a swallow, one spit also doesn't make a summer) and so on and so forth, but man it was hard going, particularly considering the effort given tonight. And as there isn't another game here for 2 months the bad taste in the mouth will be lingering for a while. Not the end of the world, but a bag of dicks regardless.

Oh, no doubt about that. But usually our very organised back half and around the ground pressure helps us out even when we don't do well in clearances. I don't know what the stats are, but we've always struggled more than most for clearances against your boys. Whether the Hawks do their homework better or whatever. But for sure, given our lack of intensity, unless we could actually arrest some control at the stoppages, it was always going to be a one sided affair.

People overestimate how well we coped with injuries last year. We had an extremely easy draw, and for the most part were playing very average sides. When we met a few decent sides away (Richmond, Geelong, Hawks), we were smashed just like this game.

Unfortunately, Rd 3 - Rd 9 could not be any tougher. If we can win the games at Subi (which won't be easy), I think that will be a pass mark. Snag one of the games vs Sydney/Port, and that would be a bonus. After the bye, our draw is about as easy as one could hope. But we don't want to leave ourselves having to win the last 13 straight just to make top 4.

Depth is OK, with a lot of similar standard players who can do a job if they are the 21st-22nd player selected. But if all of Sheridan, Crozier, Suban, Neale, Sutcliffe (best of the bunch), De Boer are playing at once ... that creates too many passengers.

I'm over it now but man that was pathetic watching.
For all the hype about our supposed 'fast start' it seemed that by talking about it the players assumed it would just happen without any effort.
The effort was really down tonight and that's disappointing from a fans perspective, can lead to posters singling out players and while I personally don't have any issue with highlighting a players weakness in a game it seems like there are some uber defensive posters on here who love to belt into each mercilessly but get antsy when someone unloads on Deboer for going missing, suban for his one dimensionalism, etc etc. get over it, everyone is entitled to vent and spray after a game if they want, especially one like tonight that had so much build up - we were disappointed last year in the GF and we just blew our first chance at redemption.
I Mentioned it on the game day thread and it still sticks in my craw - I'm most upset at our approach to hawthorn. They've proven that their style at the G is superior and yet RTB stuck at the rolling zone and press just to be continually and repeatedly carved up. Our game plan is normally tight and I'm hoping this is just a blip but does freo have a plan B ? Hawks are unique in what they do and how they execute it so it's not like we'll have too many other teams slicing and dicing us like tonight but it begs 2 questions to me
1. are we good enough to adapt next time and perhaps execute a variation of our plan, or
2. Does RTB stick with the same formula and hope for a different result ?

You could say There was a heap of contributing factors to tonight's showing, missing mids, heavy week last week, injuries and rotations, perhaps selections - I'd just love to know what our approach will be next time we meet the hawks........

Maybe you were, maybe you weren't having a crack at me, however I got stuck into a bloke who was bagging De Boer without even watching the game.

I mean, come on.

Look all teams have them

We had a Hawks supporter yelling "get off the ground Cheney you spud" in the 2nd quarter when we are 50 points up.

We've put Cheney on the oppositions most dangerous big forward 3 weeks running which is a ridiculous ask, but works for team balance and allows Gibbo to be 3rd man up to more contests

Some people are never happy
