What is apparent is that the inner sanctom of the AFL (players, reporters, media identities etc) hvae known all these stories for years but for one reason or another have kept in quiet. Now that the "war" has started all the retrospective (only common knowledge in certain circles) stories are seeping into the public domain.

And am I the only bloke not to know about our Johnno's issues?

No.

Many Carlton supporters are selective in what they want to know about their club.

Cheeky bitch is slagging footy royalty there. Drove past him on Friday in Camberwell and he seemed a bit trimmer.
You would have to know his full story before you'd understand what she is getting at.

Fancy exepcting a Carlton supporter to know about it? :p

I think another article referred to a like a scene out of Scarface in regards to another incident - seems apt.

Wonder who was getting cut up by a chainsaw?

i think i know who the player was that voss threatened. im not too sure but ive known that player personally so I wouldnt be surprised.
again with fletcher. stop accusing him with substance abuse you stupid old raggy bitch. it was booze and we'll know that for sure sometime this week.

c. wilson is a joke. no need to read her exaggerated articles.

So it was booze, but we wont know that for sure till this week?

Caro is a great journo, and I dont know why she cops a baggging for not being visually splendid, 'cos I'd like to see the other halfs of her detractors.

But I have to say: Caro, if your going to have botox or collagen in the lips, dont wear a high gloss lipstick soon after. It wasnt a good look on offsiders this morn.

It was interesting, offsiders this morning, but the lipstick was bloody off putting, as was her comment that West Coast can't suspend everyone coz they need to put "a field on the team". Are they going to bury the players??

lol ;) was actually sarcasm. i hate caro with a passion and none of her bull**** articles id even have a glance at. old bitch is a the afls poor mans browyn bishop.

Ahh I see, so nothing to do with facts at all and everything to do with your own prejudices.

Carry on.

What exactly did you want them to do?

They have stated that they questioned players about their behaviour, and rumours that circulate around a small city and the player(s) basically lied to their faces. If the performance of a player such as Cousins, at training and on game day, is to such a high standard as to him widely being touted as one of the fittest and hard working players of the game, then what as his employer is the club supposed to do?

He tells them he doesn't have a problem, he tells his manager/father he doesn't have a problem, he works as hard or harder than any other member of the team, he is consistantly in the top 3 players come fairest and best time. Until such time that it effects his performance as an employee (ie he starts to miss training) there is little the club can do.

Get your head out of the sand.
Of course they knew what was happening but the carrot of success caused them to turn a blind eye.

The carrot of success made them turn a blind eye.... Caro believes this began in 2001. Where was our carrot for success back then. We sucked. Its not up to Gooding and Worsfold to play babysitter. There grown men. Treat them like a child and you will get a child. Its up to there families friends and loved ones not the club to hold there hand. Woosha cant follow the players around every waking moment. Idiocy at its finest that article

Spot on evo.
Caro goes where others fear to tread.
The Eagles admin need to feel the blowtorch big time.

She wouldn`t know journalism from socialism,Where others fear to tread! what she states is that the AFL is not to blame, the current administration have known about it for 4 years, don,t worry Caro your future AFL luncheons and dinners will be in the mail.

"i hate caro with a passion and none of her bull**** articles id even have a glance at. old bitch is a the afls poor mans browyn bishop."

Amusing stuff - but the truth remains that she has the guts to say her piece and is not shy when it comes to sledging Richmond either - hate her or comdemn her, you must concede that she is a valuable journo when you read some of the sycophantic drivel indulged in by so many. Walls is a know-all and a ponderous, sour old f**t by comparison.
One reservation - she predicted Geelong at No. 9 in 2007 - lost points here.

Its the responsibility of your club not to put drug affected men on the field for a variety of reasons. One being that a positive result on match day could overturn the result for starters.

The second being the health of the players.

"Frankly it came as no surprise to learn that Daniel Kerr was dealing with convicted criminals. But to hear those taped conversations on the ABC, the lifestyle it reflected and the names Kerr mentioned was chilling."

What names does Kerr mention?

They spend more time at the club than they do with their families. As you say they are grown men, so their families should not have to hold their hands, either. IMO it was incumbent on those at the club who knew what was going on (ie players, football department) to dob in those who had a problem, before the problem got out of hand. Given the club had been made aware by some parties that there was a problem, they should have been making a concerted effort to weed out (no pun intended) those that had a problem.

Caro makes a good point in saying that the Eagles(like any other club would), realised they were on the verge of the ultimate success & pursued that as their #1 priority. The problem with this is the players who have a problem are now 2 years further down the road with their problem & it is going to be harder to rescue them. The culture of success at all costs that makes up the AFL ( & other sporting competitions) means the welfare of players is not necessary as big a priority as it should be.

Good luck to the Eagles for winning the premiership, but now it is time to focus on other battles before too many young lives are allowed to be ruined

No its not. Its the players responsibiltiy to make sure there not on drugs. Its there health and there career there playing with. If it was the clubs then every player would be drug tested before matchday. However they arnt.

In terms of a football focus, it is immensely irresponsible of the club having had all this information relayed to them from various sources not to put a halt to this problem, knowing that they could quite easily have a number of players on their second positive recording and one test away from losing god knows how many players to suspension.

Cousins wasnt the only walking time bomb

Rubbish. 3 2 hr training sessions a week is hardly more time with the club then family. If someone is responsible for there welfare its there families not the club. Lets just say if you worked at I dunno Woolworths maybe. Is it Woolworths responsibility to ensure your not on drugs and are well. Hell no.

Eagles didnt go chasing success. If that was the case then why deal with this now. Eagles are flag favorites. If were chasing success then surely we wait till the end of September too send players to rehab etc. Either that or do it after the 06 Grand Final. Doing it before the season suggest 1 of 2 things. They didnt know the extent of the problem. If they knew about this for 5 years players go to rehab etc in October not 1 week before the season begins
