So many have Motlop at half forward? He didn't play that position very well last year.

I also wonder whether he will be just on the outside, or take Wingards spot as an inside/outside Mid.

I think his creativity and good disposable warrant being in amongst it

B: Jonas, clurey, DBJ
HB, Hammer, howard, Houston
C: Motts, ollie, Rockliff
HF, Boak, hoff, burton
F: Ryder, dixon, R Gray
R: Lycett, SPP, Ebert

Int: Rozee, marshall, bonner, Atley

Usable depth players end up being Farrell (unlucky to not be in the best 22), watts, S gray, mayes, Lienert, Johnson (maybe?) and trengove

Untried depth that might/hopefully push up: Hewett, butters, woodcock, patmore, garner, dursma, drew and frampton.

Players who really shouldnt get a game: Mckenzie, Amon, ladhams, grundy, cox and Hayes (hayes will get games eventually, just not 2019)

Dunno where to put broadbent this year, could be clear best 22 or off the list by the end of the year.

Looks like we can survive a few injuries this year, but if we end up with 5 or so injuries to the main team, things may end up getting ugly.

thats my armchair analysis, feel free to pick it apart :D

B: Jonas, Clurey, DBJ
HB: Houston, Howard, Hartlett
C: Burton, Wines, Motlop
HF: Westhoff, Dixon, Boak
F: R. Gray, Marshall, Rozee/Farrell/S. Gray
R: Ryder, SPP, Rockliff
Int: Lycett, Ebert, Bonner, Atley

Emerg: Mayes, Watts, Broadbent

Reluctant to put Atley in after he didn't get a run this year but we need someone like him to step up.

Would love us to put Rozee in as soon as he's ready, round 1 would be ideal ala Wines, Wingard (eww) and SPP.

Guys like Watts, S. Gray and Broadbent need to win spots back based on form and fitness.

So now that we know our list what’s your prediction for the round 1 team!

(Assuming everyone on our list is available for selection at this stage)

FF: Lycett Marshall R Gray
HF: Butters Dixon Boak
C: Westhoff Wines Motlop
HB: Burton Howard DBJ
FB: Clurey Jonas Hartlett
R: Ryder Ebert SPP

INT: Houston Rockliff Rozee Bonner
EMG: Lienert Watts Broadbent

FB: Clurey Jonas Houston

R1: Ryder Ebert SPP
R2: Lycett Boak Motlop

INT: Rozee Lienert Ferrell Westhoff
EMG: Watts Bonner Butters

We have 46 players in our roster. Of those, 22 will be 24 years old or older by the end of the next season.

---

Our over-23 team would be:

Offense
Charlie Dixon - Paddy Ryder - Robbie Gray
Justin Westhoff - Jack Watts - Travis Boak
Midfield
Scott Lycett (R) - Tom Rockliff - Brad Ebert
Steven Motlop (W) - Ollie Wines - Sam Mayes (W)
Defense
Jarrod Lienert, Hamish Hartlett - Darcy Byrne-Jones
Tom Jonas - Matthew Broadbent - Tom Clurey

Interchange: Jack Trengove (D/M), Sam Gray (F), Trent McKenzie (D), Karl Amon (W)

---

Our under-24 team would be:

Offense
Billy Frampton - Peter Ladhams - Todd Marshall
Aidyn Johnson - Kane Farrell - Xavier Duursma
Midfield
Sam Hayes (R) - Sam Powell-Pepper - Joel Garner
Conor Rozee (W) - Joe Atley - Zak Butters (W)
Defense
Dan Houston - Cameron Hewett - Ryan Burton
Dougal Howard - Riley Bonner - Riley Grundy

Interchange: Willem Drew (M), Jake Patmore (M), Tobin Cox (F/M), Boyd Woodcock (F/M), Martin Frederick (D), Kai Pudney (D)

---

Finally, on the topic of this thread:

* Who among our U24 players would have the best shot at a spot in out Best-XXII?

In: Marshall, SPP, Howard, Burton, and Bonner.

* Who among the older players would most probably lose his place?

Out: Trengove, S.Gray, McKenzie, Amon, and Broadbent.

Thus, My Current Best-XXII:

Offense
Charlie Dixon - Paddy Ryder - Robbie Gray
Justin Westhoff - Jack Watts - Travis Boak
Midfield
Scott Lycett (R) - Tom Rockliff - Brad Ebert
Steven Motlop (W) - Ollie Wines - Sam Mayes (W)
Defense
Dougal Howard - Hamish Hartlett - Darcy Byrne-Jones
Riley Bonner - Tom Jonas - Tom Clurey

Reasonable thought process, but Houston is a lock for best 22, and I find it extremely unlikely we'll play 4 tall fwds and 2 rucks in the same team.

It is MY current Best-XXII. I can totally change my mind about it.

I was surprised by how tall the team was, but I couldn't think of any other swipe. Houston for Lienert is fine, but what would the other changes be?

It's definitely hard. Bonner and Burton aren't really proven as wingers yet, neither is Rozee so where will he play wing or half forward? will that mean Westy plays wing? Is his best spot half forward flank? how do we speed up our midfield? how do we increase the number of rotations through there? etc. Lots of food for thought still.

For me the First 20 is 100% locked in. (When they arent injured)

FF: R Gray, Marshall, S Gray
HF: Rozee, Dixon, Boak
C: Motlop, Ebert, Westhoff
HB: HH, Howard, Houston
FB: DBJ, Clurey, Jonas
R: Ryder, Wines, SPP

INT: Lycett, Burton, ?????, ?????

As HH is injured, I suspect Bonner takes his spot at first.

Under the most pressure in that 20 would be S Gray. Who with an interrupted pre-season could be under pressure from Butters and Woodcock.

As such, for me the current selection questions are:

1 bench spot for a midfielder between Atley, Rockliff, Amon, Trengove, Drew and maybe Duursma

1 bench spot for a small fwd/high fwd/wing that'll be between Butters, Watts, AJ, Farrell, Patmore, Woodcock.

For the midfielder role, I think I would choose Atley over Rockliff as mid because Rockliff is just too slow and isn't the future.

And for the small fwd role I'd probably get games into Butters over the other fwds.

Emergencies/Depth Chart from there (In a rough order):
Tall Fwd - Watts, Frampton
Small Fwd - Farrell, Woodcock, Patmore, AJ, Mayes, Watts
Outside Mids - Bonner, Amon, Duursma, Mayes, Farrell, Patmore
Inside Mids - Rockliff, Trengove, Hewett, Drew
Small Backs - Bonner, Broadbent, Duursma, Mayes, Garner
Tall Backs - Lienert, McKenzie, Grundy

From my list, you have Houston, Rozee, and S.Gray in; and Lienert, Mayes, Watts, Rockliff, and Bonner out.

Still, you have two spots still available. We are not that far apart.

FB: Houston - Clurey - Jonas
HB: Hartlett - Howard - DBJ

HF: Rozee - Westhoff - Mayes
FF: R. Gray - Dixon - Ryder

I have Drew in just ahead of Atley as I reckon he can go forward

Here is my guess. I expect there will be a few surprises and hopefully we will have some players step up to become best 22.

FF: R Gray Dixon Ryder
HF: Farrell Marshall Boak
C: Westhoff Wines Burton
HB: Hartlett Clurey Houston

Hey guys with wingard gone is Robbie gray set for the forward line and would he move to the midfield a bit more?

I want Robbie Gray to be in the midfield more but we have to be mindful that he's also 31 in March. So he may spend a bit of time forward too.

We are not too blessed with top medium/small forwards either, we might see guys like Motlop, Rozee, Farrell get some mins forward too.

Problem is really Tobbienis our best clearance midfielder. Hopefully Rocky stays fit.

Need SPP to have a real break out year and as you said Rocky stay it and cant write of Boak just yet (or Atley have a break out year and claim a best 22 spot)

Burton is another one, will he play predominately as a mid or half back ?

Really down to some of the young guys to really make their mark and allow Robbie to play permanently up forward and not be needed in the midfield.
