The Flood Crisis

at least 50% of people thought they were insured, but aren't.

Only Suncorp and Westpac cover for 'this type of flood', all the other majors don't cover floods, due to some obscure definitition. Although to be fair to AAMI, who I am with (and luckily don't need to claim) they have it pretty clearly poijted out in their policy docs that they don't cover for flood by ANY definition.

I was certainly a very lucky resident of our street, only 3 houses didn't get any water - in fact we didn't even get anything downstairs either. To give you an idea, I am number 156, and am about 3/4 way up the street, and only 3 houses weren't flooded.

Thommo, when I bought my house in Bellbowrie (a long time ago) I couldn't get a mortage if I was below 74 flood levels, and most insurers wont cover you if your below those levels.

I got away unscathed, if you guys need a hand in the next few days pm me.

Yep, I checked my documents when the flood was clearly coming, and they couldn't have been more clear. Under a massive heading "What we don't cover", FLOOD, was 3rd on the list.

One annoying thing is that my insurance premium will skyrocket now, because the underwriting process won't recognise that I wasn't actually flooded.

It's also annoying that I'm covered for flood, but I'm well above any historic flood level, so I see it as I'm paying for cover that I'll never use, and you need:confused:

My cous got hit by floods last night in Halls Gap.

Didn't the worst recorded floods in Brisbane reach a peak at over 8m in the 1890's? You'd be boned if a flood that bad reoccured.

1894, but now we've had a lot of abatement work done (unfortunately they didn't resume properties flooded in 74) like Wivenhoe Dam "holding pockets" in tributaries raising roads etc

Re: Financial aid... we have a good working economy that will provide for those who need aid, Indonesia doesnt, thats why we're better:)

Re: ADF contribution - you don't commit all your resources until you know where they will be needed. I was cutoff for 3 days, didn't need help, so dropping a pallette of TP by Chook would have been a waste of resources, and you'd be bitching about that too!

If you reread my comments you would notice that they were aimed at the smaller communities that had been affected around xmas day onwards.I hadnt mentioned brisbane because it hadn't been hit at the time..

FYI though Chinchilla has, at the moment cases of e-coli in the water,Dalby is only just starting to get back on its feet,Condamine is about to get hit again.A lady had to give birth in her house the other day near st george.in Theodore the residents are still not allowed in the town after 4pm 20 days on after they were initially hit......

It has been, and still is a lackluster contribution to these areas from the federal government who didnt realize the enormity of the disaster.

The floods made a mess of my hometown Rochester. Luckily, there were no deaths. All the shops are ruined and the farmers will be stuffed. I hope they can all pull through.

This whole issue of who covers what in the insurance game is a joke.

Do some research, Suncorp and AAMI are the same company! Suncorp bought out AAMI, Suncorp also own GIO and a host of other companies.

So boycotting AAMI and switching to Suncorp as some on other forums have suggested, is a waste of time, the money ends up in the same fat cats pockets.
