The Good Friday game, let's make it Geelong vs Hawthorn.

If the AFL takes Good Friday off the Kangaroos it will be a disgrace. Let them keep it and build it FFS, let them play Carlton or rotate between Dogs, Saints, Blues who cares? Not every match has to have 80k people there and complaining about the "quality" of a game is disengenuous. How the hell can you plan to ensure two teams are going to play in a good game in 6 months time?

Is playing an away game at 4.30pm on GF against Nth such an attractive proposition?

Should be us and the same team every week. Bulldogs would have worked. Essendon would work but they already have a few set piece games. Us and Carlton would be ideal.

Or, as my missus who is somehow smart enough to get jobs at the very highest level of government, but also somehow still persist with my drivel on a daily basis up close and personal points out, make it an interstate team.

I know right - but as she points out (she worked in tourism stuff for a bit) people would come over to Melbourne for the whole Easter holiday weekend, visit family, go to the Vic Market, molest penguins, see shows, all that stuff that people from outside Vic do in Melbourne.

There's like 60k+ signed up WCE members and heaps more fans who can't get tickets. Now North will get 25k rusted on to the game each year, which will grow as people work it into their schedules. As the game also sets into the routine of neutrals in Melbourne and becomes a rivalry, you'd get say 8 - 10k neutrals.

Then all you need is one in six West Coast members (let alone all their Melbourne fans, people who aren't members, Sydney based fans who'd come for the weekend etc etc) to come each year and you'd have another 10k, and a major tourism boost to the city. It would rapidly become part of the West Coast fan diary, they wouldn't all come every year obvs, but it would be a thing where you'd go once every few years, like lots of Melbourne based foot heads do for Perth games.

If the AFL wasn't run by a posh South Australian simpleton who appears to have also been trampled by a horse with a focus on the head when he was child, this kind of idea would be fairly obvious. It would take a few yaers to bed in, but it would work. You could get Vic Govt support for it too.

But no, Gil sits through one half of North kicking crap for goal and he's all like "Give it to Collingwood, Give it to Collingwood, I know nothing else in life for I was trampled by a horse as an eight year old and it stood on my head for ages".

What else were you doing at that highly exciting time of the year?

Won't really matter who Nth play on GF. A North home game at Etihad against anybody is not a blockbuster fixture.
I'm sure in some unfathomable way ,this somehow makes you feel better about yourself. However, given you're a Saints supporter, "pot", "kettle" & "black" come to the forefront of my mind. However, I'm inclined to take the tack of getting behind North, Saints and the Bulldogs in Melbourne with regards to ability to partake in blockbusters. Obviously, not the case with you. Each to their own. My personal opinion is that a North v Carlton would be the optimum Good Friday game, based on the fact that the RCH is situated between the original home grounds of both clubs. However, I'd be equally happy to play either Bulldogs or Saints. :thumbsu::north: V :carlton:

Oh you mean that one time 6 months ago when you played poorly for 2 months 18 months after completing a hattrick of premierships?

GET THE **** OUT!!
As a demons supporter surely you can feel sympathy to us poor hawthorn supporters at the time!

I've read a lot of dopey shit on this forum, but the thread title alone puts in the top 10.

Leaving aside all the issues about Good FRiday, why would you change the excellent established Easter Monday thing?

The bind honestly moggles.

Because there's no troll value in that.

How about making the Good Friday game Geelong vs Hawthorn.
The winner of the game will be awarded the "Jeff Crouch Trophy".
Jeff Crouch was the umpire in the 1963 Geelong vs Hawthorn Grand Final.
Just as important, he was the director of the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal for 20 years from 1974 till 1994 when he passed away from cancer.
He is in the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
I'm sure that the umpires would love to see an award named after an umpire.
So says the Geelong person
