With Broughton, Petrenko and Rance all out at the moment, for many people, myself included, it means we can no longer carry Spud Houlihan.

So whats the most logical trade for those out there.

For those that don't have Grimes, you are lucky cos the kid will score well and make you $$$$$

What are people's thoughts and preferences on Gilbee (who looks to be back) and Peter Burgoyne (cheap)???

Houlihan seems the obvious choice if you have no cash in the bank. Otherwise you can't go wrong with Gilbee who is a proven SC performer and has just come back into some form.

P Burgers has had a few shockers, but definitely has the capability to score well.

If you really have cash to splash then I would look to jump aboard the Drummond / Goodard train.

i really dunno what to do now. i was gunna go houli > broughton, but broughton hasnt being named nor has houli. mhh.

What are the chances of houlihan being late inclusion since hes on emergency list. Was going to do Houlihan > Grimes. But unsure now since i also have Bock, Hodge & Petrenko all not playing and dont want to face 4 donuts. One of them has to go this week.

Myself got Hodge,Bock,Broughton,Cheney and Petrenko lol.. I may have to get rid of Hodge and Bock or at least do Petrenko > Grimes and Hodge > to any defender other then Goddard/Bowden!! Didn't see this coming.. or did I!

what bench players do you have

Normally Cheney & Petrenko if i have full squad. My whole backline is
Goddard, Fisher, Cornes, Burgoyne, Houlihan, Hodge, Bock, Cheney & Petrenko

Guys I am screwed with the Broughton and dare I say it Spudrenko droppings!

Backline is -

Goddard, Fisher, Gilbee, Cornes, Houlihan, Hill, Broughton (Petrenko, Rance)

Even if I make my two intended trades this week of Houlihan > Grimes and Hill > Newman I am gonna be playing one short in the backline.

Any other ideas of getting a decent back 7 together or should I just do my proposed trades this week and play with my first ever dounut?

All advice appreciated...:thumbsu:

Haven't done the numbers but:

Houlihan to Grimes?
Petrenko/Rance to PBurger?

I'm not sure how much you are short.

Stuff it. I went Houlihan -> Hurley (should have checked before, but when's he back?) :)
Tuck -> Cooney, leaving me with a bit of money to do a Hill/Kraks to someone, Rich -> Ablett next week.

I fall about $3,000 short of P.Burger, D'oh! :(

Could go for someone like Mackie. What does everyone think about him? Came off a 112 last week.

I am worried though with Geelongs backline injuries like Milburn that Mackie may have to play more accountable.

I still reckon Petrenko-Grimes. Grimes can score just as well as Newman (potentially) and is $300K cheaper!

Then you have:

Goddard, Fisher, Gilbee, Cornes, Grimes, Hill, Broughton (Houlihan, Rance)

Only 1 trade burned, a potential keeper in, one donut (oh well, could be worse), Rance back within 2 weeks, Houlihan surely still a chance to return soon and could still turn out OK for you in the long run.

It's a good enough defence at round 9, there's still 13 rounds to go to sort out Houlihan at least his price isn't dropping. In 4 weeks he could be a straight swap to Hodge who you wanted all along anyway (hodgey's facing a big price drop when he returns).

If you keep Petrenko you will probably be stuck with a non-playing 9th defender all season.

you'll say its sideways .... i say it's a guy who won't play the rest of the year OUT, potential keeper IN

Has Grimes got as much chance as Houlihan to be a solid scoring 7th backman?

Due to trades being so valuable I only want to trade Houlihan to Grimes if Grimes will continue posting good scores all year and I won't need to use another trade later on to upgrade him.
He's not the sort of player who's going to score 30's sometimes is he?

More so I would say, especially considering he is actually playing in AFL not VFL.

Anyone considering holding on to Houlihan? I'm willing to give him one more chance, if he comes back in at Rd 10/11 and averages 85 for the rest of the year (which is his current average) he is a 6th/7th back keeper.

I'm going Petrenko - Grimes this week, if Grimes and Houlihan both average 85 for the 2nd half of the year as no 6 & 7 backs with only one trade used I'd be very happy.

If Houlihan got dropped again it would be game over though.

i think houlihan's attitude will see him struggle to hold onto his spot this season.

With Petrenko and Bock out I think I'll trade him for Newman. It means Geary will probably have to become my 7th back.

Due to having a shithouse run with injuries and burning trades i'll possibly be holding onto Houlihan for the moment.

If he doesnt return by the time Hurley is about to play his 3rd game then its Houlihan > Hurley...

For the moment i'm just copping the 0 with a big ****ing smile on my face.

i held onto him as well. i'm gonna wait on him to return, otherwise swap for broughton or possibly hurley. best case scenerio, a straight swap for hodge.
