Stretch to call it a BN when it's only got one proper manoeuvre element. It's a well supported COY imo.

NATO officials have been discussing plans to open a liaison office in Japan, which would represent the allies’ first outpost in the region at a time of growing tension between the West and China. The proposal was set to include the announcement of a new partnership between Nato and Japan which could see more joint military drills and interoperability between NATO and Japan in the Asian region.

The NATO proposal - which was to be discussed at next week's annual leaders’ summit in Lithuania has been effectively vetoed by French President Emmanuel Macron , insisting such geographical expansion 'would risk shifting the alliance’s remit too far from its original North Atlantic'

Keating has backed France's position saying that it was "by instinct and by policy, is simply an accident on its way to happen.”

Keating highlights the role played by comments from NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenbergg about the possibility of expanding NATO membership to include Ukraine in encouraging the Russian invasion of Ukraine and remarks that “we should not make the same mistake with China” - a clear reference to China's position on Taiwan.

We should not forget that the US has for a century strongly adhered to the Monroe Doctrine which regards any involvement in the Americas by foreign powers as a potentially hostile act against the United States itself. It is folly to think that a rapidly growing economic and military power like China would not think the same way about their position in Asia.

We are at real risk of sleepwalking into a major conflict here.

There is an agreement many nations have signed to whit that they wont use cluster bombs, neither the US nor Russia have signed that agreement.

Almost as sad as people who automatically assume it is wrong because the US likes it. The US is far from perfect but they and all the other countries that support these concerns (NATO, Japan etc) have a lot more credibility than Putin and Xi
