There's no way to get him off that under this year's adjudications, but if you look at the way Sparrow chases and then is falling to the ground when he tackles there was literally no other way to make that tackle. He dives to make the tackle and pulls him down, his only alternative is to just let him go, which judging by the AFLs comments during tribunal hearings is basically what they'd be happy to see.

I really don't think it's reasonable to treat tackles when you're chasing and diving with full momentum the same as tackles when you're standing and have the player wrapped up.
Imagine a prelim where players only do arm tackles like Petracca for fear of a suspension, oh wait you won't have too that'll be this year.

Probably shouldn't have attempted a tackle at speed. Maybe just not try when you can't be sure everyone is going to be ok.

The AFL are sitting on some horrific CTE stuff and just scattergun shitting themselves all over the place here.

They either need to get the players to sign off on an inherent risk if it's a footy action, or suspend everything now with head contact including marking contests and completely destroy the game

There's probably a reasonable compromise out there somewhere but I guess an organisation that lives off nuffy nepotism isn't going to work it out past kneejerk shit and more sweeping of shit under the never-ending carpet.

Basically you just can't have a contact game but then suspend all forms of contact.

Nope, but they clearly seems to be leaning on the "look, we did our best to regulate it" approach this year. There is no plan, just muppets muppeting.

Dunno what Hunter is getting fined for. Leaving the playing arena and gently asking your opponent to give the ball back is basically how the AFL want the game played.

Because the AFL don't want this sort of 'Thing' to become the narm.

Whether the ump could see it doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of things. This 4 umpire experiment has been bloody awful - seem to still miss obvious frees and then overreact to the soft ones.
There's too many ****ing rules and interpretations and shit like that. Player grabs ball, tries to break tackles and goes to ground. Could be holding the ball, could be high, could be a shrug so play on, could be dangerous tackle, could be a ball up. All of them can be correct at the same time basically.
