Yes logic....You complain that a team in a National competition who receive funding from a state government (that no one has denied?) while also taking on costs is wrong but then also ignore that your own team is receiving state funding for a pissy little training ground that's used for training only in the men's competition then i don't know what to tell you dude?

You can't see the hypocrisy? At least Kardinia is a state of the art facility that hosts multiple sports, concerts, events etc.
Any team that wanted to redevelop their ground would get government funding. It's kinds what keeps the competition elite.

Geelong didn't need a stadium though. Not when there's a perfectly good 54,000 capacity stadium an hour up the road.

.
Sounds like your one of the tiggy supporters that won’t go to Docklands because it’s to far away
You don't speak for me.

Are you proposing that we demolish marvel and have kp as our second ground? That's the only way it would make sense.

You’ve summed it up perfectly.
I’ve got Nothing further to add.
Fair enough.

I do actually agree with expanding outwards but I doubt stadiums are the first priority pieces of infrastructure.

St Kilda don't play in St Kilda
Bulldogs don't play in Footscray
Essendon don't play in Essendon
Carlton don't play in Carlton
Hawthorn don't play in Hawthorn
North don't play in North Melbourne
Collingwood don't even train in Collingwood

Why do Geelong have this entitlement that most Victorian clubs don't have?

Geelong is not in Melbourne. Never has been, so why force a club in a national competition to play its games at a stadium 75km away? That is what the AFL proposed until Frank Costa Brian Cook called their bluff, and IMO it was the best thing for football in this state. I bet Carlton supporters were rapt when a massively conflicted Ian Collins signed up Carlton FC to make Docklands its home ground, abandoning what was arguably the best suburban ground in Melbourne

It should be a “it’s not fair we don’t get to play Geelong at their actual home ground” thread tbf. Sick of teams selling home games and only some of the teams ever sent there as the “away” team.

If the league were serious about growing the game, they’d send some of the bigger vic clubs up to Geelong or over to tassie, Darwin etc as the away team.

It’s the rules for some and not for others that annoys most of us - and that extends beyond the Vic bias argument. It’s easy to get frustrated and point the finger when you’re a non vic club but it definitely isn’t just that black and white - just a dark shade of grey.

No it just makes more sense than building a 50,000 capacity stadium for each team. Why waste resources?

I respect your club for sticking up for the interests of the club. I just disagree that such a large stadium is/was necessary in Geelong.

The reason why a club would have to play at a stadium 75 km away is because the infrastructure was simply already there.

Geelong is not in Melbourne.
You can keep saying that, but the facts are:
The distance from Geelong to the Melbourne CBD is comparable to many other parts of Greater Melbourne, i.e. Frankston, Mornington, Wallan etc. So geographically it is part of Greater Melbourne and is included as part of Melbourne for OzTAM ratings regions.

Here's a fact....

GMHBA Stadium to MCG: 76.3km

Heritage Bank Stadium to Gabba: 72.4km

Based on this logic and reasoning, Gold Coast should play all Home games at the Gabba?

All four of our flags this century have been as a result of using Collingwood as a stepping stone at the MCG come finals time, so no need to upset that beneficial arrangement.

Cue 'stop he's dead already', meme - and then /endthread

Backtracking won't save you now. I'm already organising a protest to stop the Victorian taxpayer being fleeced millions to fund an AFLW ground that only draws in 1.4k fans on average. Dirty pokies money, Govt handouts - enough is enough, the Punt Road Parasites have been exposed.
Misogynist, how dare you block this massively expensive project just because its only for women's sport?

Let me get my placard ready.

Adelaide play their home games in Adelaide.
Melbourne play their home games in Melbourne.
Sydney play their home games in Sydney.
Brisbane play their home games in Brisbane.
So logic says that Geelong play their home games in Geelong.
For some stupid reason people object to this.
Let's keep all the complaining in here.
Some of the reasoning behind not wanting to play Geelong in Geelong makes interesting reading.
But the g is SO neutral... according to some fans of certain club's!

No it isn't! Who gives a toss about Oztam? Just because Oztam includes Geelong as part of Greater Melbourne you're saying Geelong should abandon its home ground?

Whenever anyone talks about Greater Melbourne Geelong is NOT part of it. When we had COVID lockdowns where was the ring of steel? Halfway between Melbourne and Geelong. Officially, Greater Melbourne includes 31 LGA's and City of Greater Geelong is not one of them and never will be

No but if the Gabba held 100,000 and Gold Coast were playing games where the expected crowd attendance was in the vicinity of 80-90k then yes I would argue those games should be played at the Gabba. As it stands Gold Coast has very few if any sellouts of its stadium capacity. Completely different scenario.

I'm not saying they should abandon it. But bigger games and finals should definitely be at the MCG.
This has always been the case anyway as Geelong has hosted many games at the MCG or VFL Park/Waverley throughout its 100+ years in the competition.

In other sports there are plenty of matches that sell out the stadium rather than change the venue.

I disagree in some of those bolded and underlined bits.

Dockland tenants In Saints, Dogs and North Melbourne dislike playing home games vs certain opponents. No Disrespect to those 3 clubs in Saints, Dogs and Kangaroos, they dont have a massive fan base compared to the larger vic clubs like Collingwood or essendon. You wont get 40,000 in a Kangaroos vs a non vic club like Freo or suns or GWS unless Kangaroos have a marquee Buddy Franklin type and in the top 8.

Saying that, Those 3 clubs in Saints, dogs and Kangaroos have been complaining about the steep rent in docklands.

A lot of saints fans on here would love Moorabbin oval to Become a botique 30-35,000 seat stadium to play AFL games. They would probably turn a profit if Rent was cheap like cats home games in Kardinia.

I dont know about Dogs fans. they dont mind the 1 game at Ballarat. I think they would love to have Whitten oval increase to 25-30,000 seats and play 3 or 4 games a year there.

Carlton has a big fan base. But Some of their fans would love to play 2 or 3 home games at Princes Park or IKON oval (If it held a capacity of 30-35,000 seats) every year over playing home games at Docklands.

North Melbourne would probably want to play in a smaller venue.

Again... I am not bagging North. But North getting 15-20,000 vs GWS or freo in a 55,000 seat docklands doesnt look good on TV. I dont think they would enjoy playing games at Princes Park. But at least they would get 20,000 in a 30,000 seat suburban ground.

Like the hawks, North Melbourne get home games in tassie. The tasmanian Sponsors pay North $750,000 a game to host a home game there.

Geelong want to play in Geelong

Said who? For example the Bulldogs wanted to play at WO as recent as 2019 when the WO redevelopment was revealed but were denied by the AFL. They play in Ballarat after all. We even tried to play at Geelong as a home game at one point around 2012 for a better stadium deal than docklands, but were denied that too. I expect us to continue to ask to play at WO as time goes on and it is expanded.

I expect the same level of support from Geelong fans if it were to happen, as well as with Ballarat currently.

We'll play you at whatever Home ground you choose. It's your Home game so it's your right to host at your venue.
