Team 14 is doomed
There better not be a 14th team!
WTF would want that when Ive heard nothing but good things about the bye and those who have had one?
FMD even the Roys who enjoyed their time off two weeks ago loved it that much they're having another one this week.

EPISODE 3, PART 3: Failed Expansion Bids

manangatang - Existing Sweet FA Club Captain

TheLimburgerFiles.png

Cheese: Hi mang

You played a major part in the secrecy around the Failed Expansion Bids of a few seasons ago becoming public knowledge

How did this come about?

mang: I'd been hearing distant rumblings and goings-on that an expansion bid may be happening, but nobody seemed to be saying anything. There was no clarity or openness about it - nobody in the committee room knew anything or had even had the chance to talk about the state of the league and its expansion potential.

I then got a recruitment PM from someone involved in one of the bids (Millky95 ) who was unaware that I was actually a team captain. It suggested a couple of things to me, but primarily it suggested that we should actually start talking about expansion of the league in a more open way.

Cheese: How did you react to the Recruitment PM?

Do you think this mistake condemned the Expansion Bids to failure??

mang: I mentioned that I'm a captain of another team and that I wasn't up for joining. I might have even thanked them for their message regardless.

I don't think that mistake really had anything to do with the fact that the bids didn't get up. The bids had several issues, and one was a lack of good engagement and stakeholder management early. Ultimately the committee members got to vote on the bids on their own merit and they didn't succeed.

Cheese: Were you annoyed that the Admin at that time, Ant Bear , didn't let the Committee know what was going on?

mang: At the time, nobody really knew how much Ant Bear had been involved in the bids up to the point of everyone finding out - it was a complete information vacuum.

I'm still not sure how much the admin knew of what was going on - it depends on who you talk to, but certainly the idea that the admin was thinking of an expansion bid (or bids) without talking to the committee or other clubs at all was unpopular among some.

I personally just wanted good information to take back to my LG for discussion.

Cheese: You also created a Media Thread

Do you think that may have adversely affected the bids?

mang: The thread I created was a discussion thread, intended to start a league-wide conversation. It achieved its aim.

If people think a discussion thread adversely affected the way the committee ultimately voted on two separate bids, they’ve got rocks in their head.

Cheese: Thanks for sharing your memories about this interesting event in Sweet history

mang: No worries

Episode 4, Part 1 - Hawks>>>Phoenix Rebrand ... Chippy
EPISODE 4, PART 1: Hawks >>> Phoenix Rebrand

Chipmunk - CRO (Chief Rebrand Officer)

TheLimburgerFiles.png

Cheese: Hi Chippy

Thanks for agreeing to relive the controversial moment that you rebranded the Hawks to the Phoenix

Why did you decide to change the existing name/ mascot?

Chippy: It first came about around S29 after I agreed to stay with the Hawks. Agent93 mentioned that it was something that he was considering, in part to remove the AFL connotations of the club, and we decided to investigate.

After talking to some of the longer serving members of the club, we decided it was worth pursuing and then we set up a working group to see what would be a good option for the rebrand.

Cheese: Do you remember who was in this "working group"?

Chippy: Yes, it was essentially members of the LG at the time.

Cheese: Was Hate consulted?

Chippy: Hate hadn’t joined the club at that time, he joined in Season 31 and I presume he wasn’t consulted when he was recruited. By that time the working group already talked about this for a season. Admittedly part of discussions taking so long was people (including myself) being busy but we also wanted to do it right and we were already talking about what we brought to the league culturally and how a rebrand can offer something new while being respectful to our history. We finally settled on the new moniker at the end of Season 31 and spoke to Zoops about designs.

Cheese: It sounds like the change was debated for quite some time

Did you expect such a negative reaction from both teammates & opponents?

Chippy: Not at all, I expected it to be received positively and had no reason to think otherwise. I’d checked with mwerps for an opposition Captain view (she was Bears Captain at the time) and had been through a Demons tour where my takeaway was there was confusion between the AFL and Sweet FA club. Most importantly, we’d got larrikin and Biggie ’s approval before rolling it out.

I do regret not consulting more widely and more regularly with the team. On a positive note, none of that reaction related to what we produced, more the principle and communication which I hold my hands up to. The Phoenix moniker is now in its third season and we have a team who are thriving, enjoying playing under it and we are in a good place.

Cheese: How many Players did you lose because of this?

Chippy: 2 (Biggie and Hate). When I spoke to other leavers over the last 3 seasons it wasn’t a factor.

Cheese: You mentioned that you had Biggie’s approval though

Can you explain what happened there?

Chippy: We sent Biggie and larrikin the finished rebrand plans for approval and got their okay. We then went ahead. Later on when we’d got admin approval and I announced it to the league Biggie wanted to leave. He accepts that he approved the rebrand, just subsequently doesn’t want to play under it and so we delisted him as requested.

Cheese: You also mentioned that you regret not consulting with the team more

Was there a particular reason why this didn't happen?

Did you think that only the LG needed to accept the changes??

Chippy: Oh no and as I said before we spoke to people outside the LG and got approval from others so that’s definitely not the case. What I mean is we only got to a final design/product near the end of Season 31, which meant that the team didn’t get to see it until the end. If we had got to something earlier, I could have showed it to the team earlier. Although what we produced was received very well, they ideally would have seen it earlier.

Cheese: This is your last season as Captain of the Phoenix

Are you concerned that you will only be remembered as the rodent who killed off the Hawks?

Chippy: Of course not. I will miss this place though.

Cheese: Thanks for your time, Squirrel

Go the Hawks Phoenix!

Chippy: Thank you Cheese for coming to the East Side to interview me.

*Next Up - Hate tells his side of the story

I just wanted to highlight this so we can all agree that it sounds as stupid as it does today as it did four seasons ago. :nerdv1:

Do not get too excited, TiF! I offer the most diplomatic of responses!

We can do it again 😉

It's been said before, but Chipmunk has done the most British thing ever.
He has come in, taken over, renamed the place, presumably taken all the Hawk artifacts back to the British museum and instated a new British Government in thewizardmelon
At least the Hawks now get to play in the Commonwealth Games

Snooze. Running out of things to talk about, are we? So we’re re-hashing this again? This is worse than TDC and Wosh’s GF ramblings.

#rentfree 😴

It's been said before, but Chipmunk has done the most British thing ever.

At least the Hawks now get to play in the Commonwealth Games

Don’t be asking me about the rebrand. Now or ever in the future. A tired narrative that is brought up by people that I can only assume have no relevance or interesting narratives in their own side 🤷🏼‍♂️

The whole concept of this Media Thread is to revisit controversial moments in Sweet FA history

This event definitely fits that criteria

Why would anyone ask you about it?

You weren’t even around at the time

Unfortunately the leadership group seemed to think the same of much of their list at the time. :disappointed:

What needs to be done is clear.

The club reverts back to the Hawks and forgets this whole thing ever happened. The Phoenix bid to form the 14th team as a separate entity.

#factcheck he didn't even initiate the damn thing. Did you read his first answer lol. People suggesting that Chip led the change the entire way have NFI and are perpetuating something that didn't happen.

Have you met the SFA? People dredging up old material for content is rife throughout.

Imagine getting this irritated over an interview with your own Captain. I would hate to imagine if someone external had mean things to say.

It makes you wonder, is there division inside the ranks of the East Side Phoenix?

Personally, I thought both damicky and Chipmunk have done a fantastic job in this thread!
