it's his job! he challenges them, gives them opportunities for development, inspires them, reminds them of the fortunate position they are in to be playing footy, reminds them that even if they are to leave/be delisted they have to be playing to the best of their ability if they want another club to pick them up. he's already given the arse to half the list who he didn't think had the mettle, so presumably those left are the mostly ones he thinks he can work with. it's becoming more obvious that he's lost them, unfortunately.
Disagree, although it is his job, I'd imagine he tries his guts out to do all this. The actions of the players today say more about them than it does the coach. When I'm competing I always try 100% whether the coach shits me or not. They have a terrible attitude.

He can't possibly last the week.

I usually think teams should stick with their coaches and feel that some, like Ratten etc were unjustified in their sackings.

But this is the worst team I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. They need a massive culture shift and that has to start with the coach. They need a Roos, Chocko, Clarkson like coach. Someone experienced, who can turn the club around. Otherwise they're ****ed

Melbourne needs to lose it's AFL licence and become a VFL club.

It's an utter bane on the game.

I
This.

It is nigh on impossible to be a competitive side when so many senior players are either not up to it, don't give a shit or both.

The Melbourne player list show a complete lack of enthusiasm to play hard at the ball and to hold themselves accountable for producing a basic skill set. These guys are playing AFL on an elite level and appear to not have an inkling of care in the slightest degree.

I highly doubt a change of coaching staff would induce any serious change in Melbourne's form quickly. To turn this side around is going to take some serious time and some serious approach, not only from the coaches, but from the players, the guys who get out there!

They weren't this bad under Dean Bailey though, and most of us didn't even rate Bailey.

I've backed Neeld to the hilt but I think if his position at the club hasn't already become untenable then its not far away. More the point if they're going to replace him at the end of the year anyway then they might as well do it now and give Neil Craig a shot for the rest of the season. I thought he did fairly well at Adelaide.
Craig didn't exactly end on the best of terms with Adelaide, I got the impression that he was past it as a senior coach. However if Neeld gets the sack then I don't think they have much choice for the remainder of the season anyway.

here's an analogy: sometimes you can try your guts out to stay married but you know that whatever you're doing isn't working anymore because your other half doesn't love you any more. i think that's partly what's going on.

Horrible thought for the day - Neeld makes way for Mumbles Craig!

How long until his credits from the last quarter against GWS run out?

1-5 and getting absolutely pantsed by Gold Coast at home. One quarter of footy away from being stone motherless last.

Gold Coast have been alright this year beating St Kilda & GWS and could easily be 3-3 going into this game, but there's a big difference between being a team that GC beats and a team that GC beats by 10 goals+ at home...

They won 8 games two years in a row and now they're reduced to this. They've beaten one non-expansion side in the last year and a bit and are about to get done by one after being pushed for three quarters by the other. Things got worse when he came aboard despite five seasons of rebuilding. Who have they lost in this time?

For whatever reason, the playing group seem to be voting with their feet. He won't be there next year. It's a foregone conclusion now. Normally I don't think there's much point swapping coaches mid season but perhaps one of his assistants could squeeze some more effort out of them. There's no one going anymore. They'll be playing to empty stadiums in the second half of the year.

I'm not sure if he will be sacked (after reading Peter Jackson's comments re. finances), but he should be.

Bailey was a long way from the answer to our prayers but he had us playing some good albeit inconsistent footy in 2010 and 2011.

Neeld has taken this club miles backwards, and with his arrogance we have lost our 2011 B&F winner (Moloney), defence general (Rivers) and forced a club stalwart into retirement (Green). In Green's case he probably would have retired anyway but Neeld didn't give him the choice.

Damian Drum is no longer the worst coach of the past 20 years!

A new coach won't work miracles but we can't afford THIS to be happening.

The clubs a disgrace at the moment and has been for years something seriously needs to change
