Autopsy The Massacre at the SCG

My only negative from an amazing Watch is Francis dropping every mark he attempts.

Similar to my old whipping boy Sinclair with those flat hands that bounces the ball forward.

It’s an issue under pressure footy.

Would love to see that technique fixed and he’d be a great asset.

Thought Fox was composed when he finally came on and added some great link up work. Like to see him return next week even though Cameron is out.

Should out to Hickey thought he was great early setting the tone.
Misread Cameron as Campbell - near gave myself a heart attack:tongueoutv1:

Interested in what people thought of the umpiring in this game. I can only recall two clangers in my sight, both pretty obvious frees not paid to us. They got a couple of softies and a very dodgy mark but not pulled from the rear end. I'm up the Paddington end so I don't get a good look at Randwick.
Seems arm chopping is off the agenda now.
Not a single HTB paid that I can recall but TBH I thought that was OK. Consistency is good.
Not too much whistle. Frees 20-12 our way seems about right considering we played in front all night. I would award A- or B+.

We couldn’t buy a free in the first quarter but it quickly became a non event where I thought we were getting a few softies along the way but probably more a reflection of West coast being sloppy.

I recalled early how easy their first free kick goal was and then what felt like a massacre at our end and no free kick. However, quickly became like last year when we were up and about it took the umps out of the thoughts.

Their first goal was a dead set push from Melican. Later on a mark was paid for their last goal when the ball bounced from the Eagle to Campbell's back and back to the Eagle who was honest enough to try to play on. Terrible error but there weren't that many, I thought. Could be wrong of course!

Felt like it was disrespectful - we’ve won 5 games for the season prior today, it was a moment to enjoy and watch for once with little worry. Just my opinion on an otherwise perfect viewing.

Yeah really weird that the crowd felt a bit arrogant during an all-time record win.

So glad I didn’t come to this thread right after the game.

6-3 end to the season and we're a chance, 7-2 and we're definitely playing finals, but we'd need to beat Geelong next week if we're any chance of finishing 7-2, lose against Geelong and we're probably likely to finish off the season 6-3 at best.
Geelong at Geelong with no Dangerfield and no Cameron. If we’re going to put those GF demons to rest, next Friday night is a very good opportunity.

Swans goggles off, I find yesterday’s result as baffling as the fact that all three GF rematches in history have been beltings.

Here’s two teams pretty close at the bottom of the ladder. True, WC have been awful but we’ve been pretty ordinary, and a lot of teams WC have played have been very good.

Both teams made GFs in recent years but on paper we’d surely be the ones with the monkey on our back. WC won an absolute heart-stopper (and I was very happy for them, given who their opponent’s president was back then.) You’d think that would have earned them the sort of self-belief that would sustain them for a decade.

But NO-ONE has delivered a thrashing like that this year, and in fact there’s only been four others like it in the history of the comp, and one of them was 1919, when bedford , Grand Uncle Horace and I were down at the docks welcoming the boys back from Palestine.

Here’s a theory that hit me overnight.

It turns out that we’re not actually that good.

West Coast have turned a corner.

But not in the usual sense of the phrase.

St Kilda are going to beat them by even more next week.

And better teams will beat them by even more in subsequent weeks.

Yesterday was not something that will stand in the record books for more than a few weeks. It was merely a harbinger. Everyone’s saying let’s wait and see how we go next week, but maybe we need to wait and see how WC go next week. They may get even worse yet.

Anyway, that’s the theory.

However, I prefer to believe it was an anomaly, but also the confidence boost we desperately needed, and that things are really going to gel for us for the rest of the year and on into 2024.

I'm not sure Buddy can play again.

We just so much more potent with Amartey, McLean and Logan.

With IH playing deep.

So much.
Giving Buddy one more year was a mistake and we would be smart to acknowledge this as a club and give Buddy a coaching / support role.

Amartey
McLean
Logan
Buller

These guys are our forward line and if we are going to turn up next year, we need them firing.

Not entirely sure that game was the best preparation for the cats.

Hopefully it serves as a confidence booster for the players, tells them they are that much better than another afl team on their day, but they switch on and hone in on the cats this week.

Means nothing if we get belted by 88 points this week

The weird thing about that game is I am having trouble figuring out who was our best player. You could lay a claim for 8 players being our best, and that is a very good thing as you don't want one dominant player.

Todays performance also shows that despite our season we are a better team than our ladder position suggests.

Something has changed with logan. He looks like a switch has flicked ans has matured over night..

He carries himself like key forward now, like he's the number 1 man. Yea he still has a few things to work on but he has been very impressive this year

2 goals a game for a 21 year old key forward is massive
Playing on a bloke half his size at times and was beaten in the air and didn’t take the advantage at times he could of more so imo

Still a very good game

He has the cats backline this week

Will see if he gets monstered or he monsters then make the call

your relentless doom and gloom stuff gets tiresome most weeks but sometimes maybe just give it a rest
last night you praised barrass more often than any swans player

and the "make the call" comment is crap, you can't make a call after one game ... be it last night or next week or whenever
mcdonald is 21, he's got plenty to learn but he's going the right way to being an outstanding forward, he did what he had to last night and did it well
