Analysis The Matt Taberner effect

Treacy over Tabs.

Time to move on and give Treacy an extended run
Treacy couldn’t mark effectively and is barely 20 games into his career. No way.
This was probably about the worst game for the forward line to play. Back them in, have synergy for the group and bounce back.
People calling for Amiss and Treacy will be very upset in opposition just pummeling them. There’s inexperience and this is it. It’ll take time with this forward line.

Logue got gifted games up forward- time to do the same for Treacy and Tabs.

But at the end of the day, I think we can all agree, Taberener has to go.
Eventually sure but just not yet.

I think if by approaching the midway point of the season we’ve still basically got the same from tabs as we’ve always got- couple great games interspersed with non existent showings all wrapped up with the usual missed games through injury AND the teams struggling to keep pace with the comp leaders , then yeah we’ve really got to say thanks Matt but your purely depth from now on and it’s the Amiss/treacy combo from here on in.

We've spent multiple years waiting for this guy to work out. He's had an arm chair ride due to the fact that all our other KPF hail Mary's have failed miserably, he's the last man standing once again. Through no fault of his own he's the face of the freo s**t show that has been the post pav era.
We should nickname him Bradbury.

Did anyone else besides me think that when Tabs had the ball on the boundary side on his own and cut inside to deliver inside 50m and ran straight towards the lone St Kilda player that he was actually going to kick it straight into the lone St Kilda player.

The final straw for me , you could almost hear the clicks and whirs

I like everything about this. My only concern is if we give him until midway through the season, will that be too late and we have to write of 2023 as well?

I can't believe this many people are on the drop Tabs bandwagon. I thought I was going to get chased out of the forum for even considering it. It's great to see so many people with an eye on the future. Restoring my faith in humanity.

You are skating on thin ice with your drop Shooter idiocy though

Your off your head with that shit

Agree with this. He gets a reprieve for the first few round but if we’re looking like missing finals it’s a case of thanks but we’re looking to the future.

Why wait? I would be proactive rather than reactive. We aren't winning a flag with Taberner in the team. Move on. By mid-season, that could be 10 games into Amiss. They all count and the sooner we get Amiss up to 50 plus senior games, the better.

Also, our early games are the "easier" ones. They are the better ones to get Amiss into the side. For example this week he could get to play on someone like Bonar or Goater, who are 188-190cm medium defenders.

Taberner's history shows he needs a few games to work his way back into form. Hopefully he gets his mojo back soon, because with Lobb gone we really need him to perform.

Taberner was not the reason we lost against saint kilda. He isn't even close to the reason we lost

He is much closer to being one of the reasons we didn't win

As I said, Fyfe will still be there when needed and Sonny will be running the show in the forward line as he does.

It could be argued that Taberner has hardly any consistency also, but then that would ruin my "he's been consistently average" line.

We can't keep churning out the same mediocrity week in week out like we have been, it just isn't working.

And look, if the "lets drop Tabs/Shooter/Brodie and experiment with Amiss/Treacy/Sturt" thing doesn't work out, then you can all turn around and say we told you so and we'll go back to the usual tripe that we usually offer in the forward line. But if that's the case then you might as well write off the next 5-10 years as well because as far as I can see. Those latter 3 guys are the future of this club and if they don't work out, then we are knackered.
Brodie!!!! really!!. He has been no better no worse than any of the other big gun mids. Will the other be looked at?
Are we forgetting just how good he was for us last year?
Tabs, Shooter, i can handle, but Brodie. I mean really.
I agree Sturt , who i was surprised was not selected in the first game and Amiss. He played pretty well on Saturday without being super. We need to get games and time into these players.
Erasmus and Johnson need to be given games as well, but what is holding them back is the fact that the WAFL has not yet started.

I've defended Taberner more than any other fan has, I've probably been his biggest supporter for years, but it's time to go.
Yep I'm in the same boat as you.

Love Tabs - but when you've gone from being not being able to finish a season to not being able to finish a game - then you've become a liability.
